Although, I feel like this thread has degenerated into pointless speculating, because Lego is doing things we don't like for reasons we don't understand. Some of us try to rationalize, some gripe, and I honestly kind of miss it. In years past, there wasn't this much griping, and I can't tell if it's because of lower quality, or higher expectations.

I can't agree more... sometimes it feels like we are ranting just for the sake of it. Maybe there is no point trying to rationalize that :-)

But, honestly, looking at what Lego did last year, and this year, I think they really dropped the ball.

I did feel the same at first but I also think that apart from maybe a very few exceptions, there is no such thing as a bad Technic set.

I'm looking forward to building these new 2H sets as I will probably be weak and get all three...

I'm a simple man: I see an visually satisfactory set (well-covered with panels, well-picked color palette, has realistic details) , I buy it. So far all of the 3 sets of 2H 2017 meet those requirements so I intend to get them all, plus another 42068 and 42069 for B-models.

Simplicity seems to be the definition for 2017 sets. That´s fine in a way as it will help make Technic more accessible to mainstream users and increase the fan base. On the other hand, it´s important not to dumb down the line too much to aliente the hard core fans.

Let´s hope the next supercar ups the ante.

Seems like you European/American people got lucky in terms of prices.

In Canada, 42068 is $149, 42069 is $240, and 42070 is a whopping $370.

Add tax to 42070, you get about $400.

To think, I got 42043 for $200 and I could get 42055 for $230!

The BWE is currently £134 in the UK from Toys r us, Argos and Smyths, has been for some time while the older Arocs is still at or very near RRP. They are practically giving it away. I think this is more evidence that you MIGHT not have to pay the silly high price for the 42070.

Good point. I managed to get the BWE for just over a hundred quid from Amazon - battered box, sure, but who cares?

Our local toy stores rarely to never drop prices.

Yeah, after I got the CLAAS for £94.99, my local TRU dropped it again to £89.99. Anyone willing to make a pilgrimage to Northampton?

There's also a Smyth's opening virtually next door to it in the coming days; don't know what their pricing policies are, but I'm quietly optimistic.

it is crazy to pay RRP. regardless if you are billionaire. to illustrate: currently on Amazon (co.uk - but german .de has nearly identical deals now): 42052 GBP65, 42053 GBP48 !!!, 42055 GBP133

42070 will be available for reasonable price eventually too.

Hi all.. i've been reading this thread for a while... at first i liked 42070, but like most was disappointed in the lack of complexity and then the price. 42043 is an amazing set, my personal favourite - my first set was 851 in 1980 when i was 10, so i've seen a few!!! (loved 851...) - its tough act to follow, maybe we shouldn't be too harsh?! Though with 42043 currently available for £124 in the uk (!!) an rrp of £220 is steep.

I've decided to get the 42056 (porsche)... i only treat myself to one set a year and opted for the Class last year, but for £170 i think it will the porsche for me this year.... Unless.

Unless there's a sneaky flagship waiting to be released. If i were betting, i think there might be.. not a nailed on cert, but i think it could happen.

Anyway, my first post.. great to be here for my 37th year of technic! (minus the dark years...)

Wellcome to Eurobricks. 851 was also my first set. About 42070 wh should wait for first reviews to be more certain.

Maybe you're right... i'm not Lego Bashing. Its one of my favourite things ever, that and motorbikes. When i got 851 i loved BMX's, now i love Kawasaki's... just the same, but with an engine. Lego is still as brilliant. Even a bad year is awesome compared to other stuff! Maybe previous years spoiled us ;0)

I had similar "CV" but instead of Kawasaki I've ended with Mercedes and Škoda (hard to accept that Škoda is more reliable ). BMX is in safe place... When we talked about LEGO I've learned one rule - do not judge a book on it's covers. Despite fact that i favorize 42069 we should concern that new powerfunctions generation is here, new color (we always complain that only black, yellow and red are in sets...). I've personaly waited decades for propper tractor tires, so each year brings something interesting, nothing in life is perfect and perfectionismus is also in the eye of beholder

Ahhh i'd need to start whole new thread on tractor moc's as it would be way off topic (favorite moc)... i always look forward to seeing the new models, so seeing the details of the 2017 ones will be great - and possibly surprising - i look forward to discussing them here. I'm not up to speed on the new pf generation, i need to investigate...

Does anybody know if the 42070 has a centre differential like in dokludi's 42070 repilca model.

That means that the old lego differential is not a discontinued part as cumbersome as it is.

Thanks.

Looks like a modern 3L diff and not the old 4L diff? Or was that what Snipe wanted in the first place?

I don't see it being bright red, but there's alot of shadow in that area, but parts that are 100% red around that area aren't as dark as that diff, even when I take into consideration that the red parts are better lighted. So looks like DBG to me.

It´s definitely the old style diff as used in Unimog but in red.

Compared to the other red parts visible that are also on the underside and in the shadow, the central diff certainly looks red to me.

Also, although it looks unusual and a bit strange, I'm starting to find the 42070 B-model not too bad.
