I visited London Toy Fair today. But was not allowed inside Lego stall as it was appointment only*

They also raised walls along all sides of their stalls which prevented from peeking

Most other toy stalls were open for all.

If you live/work nearby, worth a visit (entry free if you register online prior to visit).

* = allegedly only registered retailers can get appointments.

What have they got in there, King Kong:tongue:

you should have gone to the nearest highchair stand and asked it you could borrow one for a minute so you could peek over the wall!

I'm stupefied that we STILL haven't seen the designer videos for the 1H sets. Are the designers ashamed or something?

Yeah, I would have expected at least a video on the ship or the jet, which are both large, detailed and special sets.

For some reason I am now proud the owner of 7 of these ships, so I expect a lot of modding coming up - or perhaps a mega ship?

After the 2016's successful set Porsche 911 GT3 RS (42056), I would welcome another supercar Lego Technic set. Perhaps a Lamborghini, as we already have had Ferrari's. But maybe it's too early for another supercar set?

If they're not letting anybody into the stand, we may well have something liscensed. I don't know if it's too early, but given how much nerd rage there was over the Porsche, maybe Lego wants to get that out of our minds.

I've never understood all the secrecy.  It makes sense while the product is in development at the company, but once it is being shown at a trade show and/or showing up in retailer catalogs, they are fooling themselves if they think they are going to keep it secret.  It is simply not possible in the modern world.  It is too easy to take pictures and once a single one shows up on the Internet, the cat can never be put back in the bag.  I also don't understand why generating buzz about a new product is a bad thing.

They do not want to fake brands appear with copy counterfeit sets before their own original stuff hits the shelves. It is still futile effort. There will be fake copies later (literally week later, since they will start making copies week later, that is all), but I guess LEGO is just trying to make it harder for them. (my theory)

I can't buy it, that it's just for avoiding fake companies make their copies sooner, then official LEGO. You just don't have a chance to make copy only from some pics, mainly if we talk about Technic sets with 1000+ parts. On the other hand, if they will show 2H sets in Nurnberg, those two weeks don't save them from copiing, if this would be the main reason.

I agree with J_C, probably this is one effect of the aggressive behavior of the pirate companies.

Even showing pictures only does have huge marketing value, and it really matters who puts first in the publicity - especially in these internet days, where instant informations rule the consumer's world. It is a fact, that majority of the people wants NOW and wants CHEAP, I don't believe they will think twice or moralize about placing order, once they see the input on the screen. From this point of view I understand the secrecy.

Just a bit more patience, and we will know more.

Maybe the secrecy itself generates more buzz.

This is actually a real possibility.  They know very well that cannot keep the products secret, but trying to keep them secret (or at least appearing to try) increases the appeal.

Lego has many themes other than Technic that have IP considerations. My guess is that's the reason for the secrecy.

But then, why show them at Nuremberg just one week later?

I'm sure it's just to generate buzz.

Exactly! Why go through all the trouble and shown them to the public a week later. It doesn't make sense. And the prelim catalogue pictures have been floating around long enough for the copycats to anticipate. I find this rather odd.

maybe its because all the replicaters would come to london toy fair and cant afford to go to numberg after so they can't finish the replicas?

Probably a Buggati or a V8 Holden!

A Bugatti would be cool.

They already have a license for Bugatti (Speed Champions), but somehow I doubt that Lego will bring the successor to the Porsche 911 GT3 in 2017. In my mind that's a bit 'too soon'. But who knows, next week we'll know more on this subject. I personally am very curious to see if Lego has a special model coming for the 40th anniversary :-)

I hope they will give us a very special model too! It's 40th anniversary... And they can't just celebrate it with a special brick in each set :-P (My Opinion)

I'm hoping that there's a surprise Anniversary set too. I'm not liking any of the current offerings and at the moment wondering what to buy just to get the Anniversary brick and say I have an Anniversary set!

I didn't know that they already have a license for Bugatti, but I agree with you that we'll probably have to wait longer for another supercar. And I think the Anniversary model won't be a supercar.
