yellost Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 Well, I do know R A Salvatore... Every Star Wars fan should. After all, he's the one who killed Chewbacca in the first book of the New Jedi Order serie :-P As for Raymond Feist, I've tried to read Daughter of the Empire, but I wasn't really caught in it and I've stopped before the end... One of the best fantasy work I've read was the Dragon Prince serie. It's a six parts by Melanie Rawn. Her characters are some of the best written and most emotionaly human I've ever read. And the story itself is fantastic. Quote
Quarryman Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 "The Lord of Castle Black" by Steven Brust, which is part two of the trilogy "The Viscount of Adrilankha", which in turn is the third book of the Khaavren Romances, which is a homage to Alexandre Dumas, and thus written in a style that resembles Dumas' style. Apart from that I'm also somewhere in the middle of "The Difference Engine" by William Gibson and Bruce Sterling, but I haven't read much in that lately.. and somewhere in "The day of the dragon" by Richard Knaak, but that is even longer since I opened. *sigh* Quote
Aredhel Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 I am just reading very very interesting books for my school :-P -Aredhel Quote
Quarryman Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 I am just reading very very interesting books for my school :-P -Aredhel Nooooo.. don't remind me that I should be studying for midterms :-P (have a test in "Performance Engineering" (in the computer science context) on Friday :-/ ) Quote
Brickadier General Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 1421: The Year China Discovered America. It's a very interesting read, even if some of Menzie's evidence is questionable, a lot of it is just as intriguing. It's hard to believe that China had such a large fleet for exploration years before Europe, only to eventually take an isolationist policy and destroy most records of the fleet's expeditions. Someone should make the fleet in Lego form. :-) Then for college, I have to read atrocious books for U.S. National Security Policy and International Relations. Then I have 2 books for my Civil War class that are pretty interesting, Ordeal by Fire by (James?) McPherson and Problems with the Civil War by I have no idea who... So yeah, I'm always reading, whether I want to or not. Such is the life of the history major. :-D Quote
AgentRick Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 (edited) Finished reading "Things Fall Apart" by Chinua Achebe for school. It's okay, but not that good IMO |-/ Also, if this counts, I've started reading the manga "Jojo's Bizarre Adventure". Edited February 8, 2008 by AgentRick57 Quote
Batbrick Posted February 12, 2008 Posted February 12, 2008 Batman: The Long Halloween, by Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale. Very good so far, I finally got around to buying today. Batbrick Away! >:-) Quote
lego.ryan Posted February 16, 2008 Posted February 16, 2008 (edited) Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Sea of Monsters. I've read it three times already, but I'm one of those people who will just reread the same books over and over and still find them interesting. X-D I recommend the series to anyone who likes Greek mythology, but a word of warning- the author does take some creative licence. Overall though, they're very enjoyable books and there's still two more to come! Books in the series: The Lightning Thief The Sea of Monsters The Titan's Curse And in May: The Battle of the Labyrinth Wow, I'm a billboard. :-$ Edited February 16, 2008 by lego.ryan Quote
Scouty Posted February 16, 2008 Posted February 16, 2008 I finished reading The Bell Jar, which was for English class, a couple of days ago. My overall reaction: I liked it, it was certainly an interesting read. The writing style was different. I'm also reading a book on the stories of Pirates, like Edward Teach, who pirated the seas near Noorth Carolina. Quote
CF Mitch Posted February 16, 2008 Posted February 16, 2008 (edited) A few days ago I started in Star Wars: Dark Lord, Rise of Darth Vader Such a cool book *wub* You find out a lot about how Vader deals with his new suit. I think this Roan Shryne guy is cool too, very sarcastic X-D Edited February 16, 2008 by CF WeaZZel Quote
Batbrick Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 Frank Miller's Batman: The Dark Knight Returns. I bought it today, finally, and have to say its brilliant, far better than what I remember of it. So many iconic scenes, I may have to legofy them for a Bat Mocs'N'Mods Treat 3! Batbrick Away! >:-) Quote
Paradosis Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 The Problems of Philosophy by Bertrand Russell Quote
Tarfful Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 The Blood of The Fold by Terry Goodkind I highly recomend the entire series. *y* General Tarful Quote
Cardinal Brick Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 Rubicon by Tom Holland, an excellent book as are most of Tom Holland's I'd recomend it if you're intrested in Rome. Quote
Lord Of Pies Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 Finally finishing off Harry Potter having got bored of them a few years ago. Quote
yellost Posted February 23, 2008 Posted February 23, 2008 Just finished the "Da Vinci Code"... It was rather entertaining, actually. But I wouldn't say it was worth half the fuss they made about it when it came out... Now I'm starting "Jacques the Fatalist", by Diderot Quote
Captain Ka-Boom Posted February 25, 2008 Posted February 25, 2008 I am reading Ice Station for school due on Friday. BTW i am on 25th page! It is 600 pages. Quote
Tarfful Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 I Finished Blood of the Fold then I finished the next in the series Temple of The Winds and now I am reading the next book in the series Soul of the Fire. All the books in the I just mentioned are by Terry Goodkind. Can you tell I love reading. X-D I highly recommend the whole Sword of Truth series. They are great books. Also if anybodies interested the series is going to be turned into a TV series this Fall. The first season will be 22 1 hour episodes long and is about the first book in the series Wizards First Rule. The man behind the show, besides Terry Goodkind, X-D is Sam Raimi. (Sam Raimi is the guy who directed Spiderman 1+2.) Also the company who purchased the rights to books is Disney thats right DISNEY, so that means the series will be shown on ABC. For those of you who are interested more information can be found here. A Wookie general who loves books, General Tarful Quote
Cardinal Brick Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 Three Hands in the Fountain by Lindsey Davis part of my quest to read all the Falco novels she's writen. Quote
SirNadroj Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 "The Great Gatsby" currently (a classic ;-) ), but I haven't started the "Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster", yet, and I'd like to get my hands on a copy of Upton Sinclair's "Oil!". Quote
Medievalego Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 The Autobiography of Slash of Guns n' Roses fame. Pretty good so far. I'll then be reading Richard Hammond's Autobiography. :-)TK ~ I want to read this! I saw Slash being interviewed on late night, about the book, and it sounds pretty interesting. captaintau: I recently read "Darth Bane: Path of Destruction." It's pretty entertaining. The only SW book I've read. Greyfox327, zero1312, a53021: the complete LOTR and the hobbit ... I agree, I've read these a number of times, starting when I was in third grade. Matn, legolover100, Lord Of Pies:Harry Potter Series, a number of times ... oo7: Read Lord of the Flies years and years ago ... I especially enjoy the Simpsons version of this story :) PSPguy: "It" ... this book scared the hell out of me when I was 12. Now, not so much. But there's some pretty weird stuff towards the end no? Well, stuff that didn't make it into the Pennywise a la Tim Curry film version :) SlyOwl:I read most of the earlier Brian Jacques novels (haven't read any in a couple of years)--all of the "Redwall" series and its spin-offs. Aredhel and snefroe: I read "Cujo" a long time ago. Wasn't my favorite King book. I've only read "The Gunslinger" so far from the Dark Tower series, but it was fantastic; definitely looking forward to reading the rest. I really liked "The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon," it's really different from King's general canon. copmike: I'm definitely going to check that one out *sweet* Mr. Mandalorian: I'm not familiar with "Airframe," but I've done the same thing, most recently with "Next," "Prey," and "State of Fear," and not so recently with "Timeline," "Jurassic Park," "The Lost World," "Congo," "Sphere," "Disclosure," "Rising Sun," and "The Great Train Robbery." yellost: I agree, I enjoyed "The Da Vince Code," but also didn't think it was as great as it was made out to be. SirNadroj: I wasn't especially fond of that classic :) Thought it was a decent read, worth its reputation? Not as sure. As for my current read ... I'm actually focussing on Patricia Cornwell's "Book of the Dead." Been meaning to read it for a couple of months and am finally getting to. Also starting "Heart of Darkness" and "Lone Survivor." ~ M ~ PS Great topic, by the way. Quote

legotrainfan Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 At the moment I am reading Elmer Rice's The Adding Machine. I started reading it today and will finish it tomorrow. I could've finished it in one day, but I'm a slow and lazy reader. It's a play and nothing really long. Quote
