WesternOutlaw Posted January 28, 2008 Author Posted January 28, 2008 And speaking of begging, I want LEGO to give us a Hobo set.And what's with that cop? Is he a member of the Kaiser's police force? :-D I suppose it's based on the fact that Lego is German? - my only guess. What a great helmet though. thanks the brickster, these look *wub*lyhopefully TLC will stumble across these and get some inspiration! You're welcome HB. I hope so to. I'm looking forward to these PM Egyptian sets. I'll probably buy when available next year. Germany get's them a year before the US. But then again, I'm always waiting for the return of the Wild West sets. Quote
MagPiesRUs Posted January 28, 2008 Posted January 28, 2008 Looks very nice *y* The arch and camel riders are my favourites *sweet* I might just buy a couple of these sets myself... :-$ Just recently I bought this Roman set: Great details on the figs, especially the standard bearer. Although Playmobil seems even more pricey than lego - if I recall correctly, that set cost $50NZ |-/ If lego should make an ancient theme though, I hope it's not just focused on the military, but also things like public baths, aquaducts and markets. That said, even if they did make one completely focused on military, I'd still be pleased *wub* Hoping-Lego-makes-an-ancient-theme ON! X-D Quote
Cardinal Brick Posted January 28, 2008 Posted January 28, 2008 Brickster thanks for those pictures, it looks a good theme maybe one day Lego will return to Egypt, when there are higher res pictures can you post them to? Deinonychus I'd like a hobo set too, but more for the Pickelhaube than the hobo. Quote
SirNadroj Posted January 28, 2008 Posted January 28, 2008 Those look good, thanks for sharing. *sweet* I really appreciate playmobil. IMO, they are second, next to LEGO. Sure, they seem to be for smaller children, but I love the occasional small playmobil 'Special' figure, or little set. I wouldn't spend $50+ for a larger set, no matter how nice they look. ;-) Just because I wouldn't have any space (I have no more space for my LEGO now!) But LEGO may want to follow in Playmobil's footsteps. Romans would be nice, and an egyptian line, too. (Not the adventuers, but an actual, historical egyptian line.) *y* Quote
Asuka Posted January 28, 2008 Posted January 28, 2008 (...) but for those of you interested in seeing the new Playmobil Egyptian sets, these early images hit the Playmobil sites today: Thanks a lot, and.... could you post links to interesting Playmobil fan-sites? Although I prefer, of course, the wider and wonderful construction aspect of LEGO, PM was always a very fine toy in my youth, and it Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted January 29, 2008 Author Posted January 29, 2008 My History with Playmobil and Playmobil Displays Glad you all enjoyed the images. I will update when larger images become available. I've always loved Playmobil, since staring at expensive toy store windows when I was a kid. Lego would often times have a single MOC displayed on an end-cap or special place in the store near the Lego aisle. But Playmobil always had the elaborate displays in the toy shop windows. I remember one such display of a pirate scene with this ship (a gift that I did get that Christams many years ago): And I still have this set in the garage. The plastic lasts forever (although a piece or two has snapped over the years). Playmobil Western Sets Now, I only buy a few sets and have purchased most of my Wild West town over Ebay (for hefty prices). They are among my favorite of the Playmobil sets. Here's a pic of a few of the sets, but I don't have it displayed right now. I'm in Lego Adventurer mode at the present time: Here's one of the newer Western Sets from last year: Wild West Mystery You can check out many of the western sets as part of a Playmobil Western Mystery I created last year. It's also kinda fun: Playmobil Western Mystery Romans I've just purchased a few pirate and castle sets in recent years, as well as a few of the new Roman sets. They're very nice. Here's some of them including Target exclusives: I think I will buy the new Egyptian sets when they become available next year. Questions Thanks a lot, and.... could you post links to interesting Playmobil fan-sites? You can find some on the first page of my WW Mystery (link above). Playmobil Construction & Customization Lastly, in regard to the construction element of Playmobil, the sets do use a System X and other construction systems that allow one to build different buildings (mainly with Castle, but other thems as well). People do build Playmobil MOCs as well as custom minifigs. It's not as elaborate as Lego, but some are quite impressive. Playmoboard has a monthly contest with Playmobil MOCs, displays, and images. Here's November's winner, an old western town: Some of the displays and scenes are very impressive and include custom Playmobil MOCs. Lego vs. Playmobil I'll share more images when available as some of you appear to be interested in Playmobil. I do admit that I have a number of collections in addition to Lego and Playmobil, but Lego is my 1st love, followed by Playmobil and Star Wars. I go through phases and break something out, put it away, then build something else (just like Lego themes). One day I do want to build a large train layout for Lego and Playmobil. I just don't have the space at the present time (and Playmobil is 3-5 times bigger, but excellent with G-scale trains). Enjoy. Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted February 17, 2008 Author Posted February 17, 2008 Once again, sorry about the double post, but I had to share this great PM Egyptian film for those of you who care to see some of the traps within the pyramid set. The film shots look a lot like the actual set (from pictures I've seen), so I think the pyramid will have many or all of the same features shown in the film. Playmobil Egyptian Film Here's a shot of the actual set from the PM web site: Quote
MagPiesRUs Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 Very nice *wub* The pharoah and priest look great, and graverobbers are a nice addtion. Looking at the sets available this year, I like the look of those marriage sets, as well as the barbarian and musketeer specials. I hope to see a Celtic/Germanic theme next *wub* Playmobil ON! Quote

Zzz Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 Isn't playmobil selling a lot less than lego, and aren't the prices compared to lego kind of cheap? Then it is funny to see dozens of new pieces every year..! just my thoughts.. the tomb robbers look cool! Quote

I think so, but they are not really cheap. , esp. the larger sets. Quote

Cardinal Brick Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 That film was great, glad I can finally look at better quality pictures of the sets. I Quote
Klaus-Dieter Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 That's a very interesting topic, TheBrickster! Unluckily I firstly post now. I must say that the new Egyptian sets from Playmobil are ! Of course I'd like to see some Lego Egypt sets, too, but only if they were in about the same quality like the Playmobil ones! But I doubt TLG ever releasing something similar to that - at least TLG surely would not release all that many brilliant civilian stuff which comes with it! Klaus-Dieter Quote
