Hey Guys,

right now i`m building another Vehicle for my "Lego City Future" Theme.

This Time,it`s a small and ordinary old Car (modeled after a Ford Model A) that was once retrofitted with affordable Aftermarket Pieces to turn it into a Hovercar.

The Main Body is pretty much done but i still struggle to think of something for the Chassis (the Area with the orange Bits)

I know that there are a lot of talented Masterbuilders around here and i`m sure someone has a cool Idea.

I added the LDD File for your convenience.

Would love to hear/see some Input and Ideas.

Some advice, of what I usually do, take a look at some automotive (concept) art; simply use google, in this case, 'retro hover car artwork'. To get some ideas. :laugh:

But in this instance;

Front orange section; a big megablocks fender, maybe with license plate.

Middle orange section; exposed engine pipes, pointing outwards.

Back orange section; I'd remove it for a smaller piece, and make those domes go one brick inward.

Funnily enough, I'm also building a retroïsh hover car again, but I can't decide on the width; 6 wide or 8 wide, both have pro's and con's. :wink:

Those were some useful Tips zenn.

It seems that one of your Creations was actually the Inspiration for all my retro futuristic Vehicles i`ve done so far.That black hovering 50s Pickup is one of my all time Favorites.

I`m always struggeling with building something that replaces the Wheels and more or less fits into the Fenders and i always wondered,how did you fit in that much greebleing into the Fenders of the black Hover Pickup?

Lol, I typed the word a-s-s, forum changed it to megablocks... :tongue: But anyway, I feel honored to be an inspiration. :grin:

The way I build it was pretty straightforward; like most of my cars start of with the same technice plate chassis, and make a car with wheels. Next take off the wheels and think of something so that it can hover.

For that to work, the chassis had to modified, but had to be the same overall dimentions, it just happen to have X plate thickness clearance on the outside and 2 plate thickness clearance on the inside. So enough space to work with.

The middle part of the chassis can be flipped upside down, so you can build in the oppsite direction if necessary. Than it was only a matter of building some thrusters, which I wanted angled, used a technique I use often for the cars engines,

which was just the right dimensions to fit between the fenders.

I have to admit it took a lot of work en reverse engineering to get that chassis to work the way it does now. :blush:

But if you'd like, I can take some pic's and make a step-by-step instructions of the standard chassis and modded chassis, just pm me your email.

I only have one requisite; that if you use it & post it online, you give proper credit (named hyperlink to Flickr account).

At the moment, while I'm building another hover car, the chassis is done. Even more detailed than the version of that Hover Pickup Truck

And I'm doing the overall bodywork; determining the height, flow, curves and stuff, cause I want minifigs to fit, but have to look visually pleasing at the same time.

I've build it like 6 times already, but the sides seem too smooth/blend to me, it just needs to have more structure and thingamajigs. But at the same time I don't want it to be overkill.

I almost seem to treat it like building an actual car... :laugh:

I'd also like to say, take a good look at that Dieselpunk Truck you made yourself, I love that thing and think you should use it as your base for your next build. I see some ways to do some improvements and add some more greebs;

change the hovertech at the back a little to get some more angles in (hinge brick), making it fit a minifig, brickbuild fencing at the back. I think you should go for it! :sweet:

And some more inspirational artwork by Alejandro Burda; *click here* :classic:

Haha,and i already thought "Man,he can`t be serious by saying i should use Megabloks Bricks :D"

Wouldn`t it be Fun if the Forum would use several Lego Knockoff Brands for replacing various "bad Words"?Like "Sluban" for the F-Word or Banbao for the S-Word and so on....:D

Those are some great Advices you have given me.To be honest,i`m not too happy with the Dieselpunk Trucks rear Hovertech myself.Just was a bit lazy and decided for a fast and easy Construction.

Your Chassis Idea sounds very interesting.Some Pics might sure help improve my Skills.

And "designing it with Wheels and then take off the Wheels" sounds like something i often do.

For example,my most recent MOC was based on a 6 wide Taxi from a Lego Game.All i did was removing the Wheels.added some futuristic Stuff,Air Intakes and some sort of Antigravity Device that sticks out of the Fenders and yoila,i had a hovering Taxi which was a vintage Car retrofitted with modern Hovertech..maybe you would love to have a look at it :D http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=139147
