Batbrick Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 Indeed !! And that proves the narrow minded views and total lack of imagination (reminds me of naming the jester topic and the rant I made in there :-P !!)Lego is all about creation and imagination. Therefore one should not be construed by the use intended by TLC !! Indy can explore whatever you want him to explore, imagination knows no boundaries !! *yoda* True, but the sets are constricted. I'm not saying Indy is bad, I'm as excited by it as you are Yoda, I just think that there are certain disadvantages to having it. TLC's imagination is important too I think, as great as licenses are I want original themes as well. JT was that rare theme that took inspiration off an already existing adventure and took it to amazing places. As much as lego is a toy of the imagination, it must inspire the imaginaton in kids as well :-) Batbrick Something! *wacko* Quote
gylman Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 We've beaten this topic to death, and I hesitate to add a "me too" type of response, but Batbrick I agree with you 100%. I also think Svelte's analysis of what's going to happen with the IJ line seems very plausible. Quote
Stauder Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 I think, that once lego is done with IJ it might go back to JT, until IJ goes TJ not coming back. Im sure that might happen, Or JT might not come back at all. Im not being pesimistic, I love JT, But honestly, what are the cances? Stauder :-/ Quote
Scouty Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 IJ and JT....JT and IJ *wacko* a) You guys are lazy, why not write Indiana Jones out or Johnny Thunder? b) Why can't we just all get along? Johnny Thunder was a cool theme. Indiana Jones is a cool theme. (Even though Indiana Jones is a little more favorable in my perspective) Some people are just hoping Indian Jones dies. Some hope Johnny doesn't come back. Yikes X-D ! (This post is a joke/serious one!!) Quote
Batbrick Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 :-D, I love Indiana Jones, don't worry, I don't want him to die, and its shaping up to be a great theme. I'm just saying that I'll miss Johnny Thunder, because that was a theme of Indiana Jones proportions that could go to more and better places. But I'll still love the Indy theme, despite my preference to Johnny, as the great vehicles and excellent pieces and molds are great. Batbrick Something! *wacko* Quote
xwingyoda Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 My suspicion is that once the next 4 sets come out, the IJ theme will have a limited shelf-life. Ie, that this licensing deal is really a one-off deal with LucasArts to ride on the popularity of the movie coming out in May. I don't really see this line as continuing year after year, wave after wave, with more and more sets coming from the older movies. Even if the movie is a massive success with Shia LaBeouf taking on the lead mantle, there isn't going to be another new movie for at least 3 years. I can't see an endless line of IJ Lego waves in the meantime to feel the gap. Even HP Lego faltered and there was a movie to support that every year, almost - and HP is way bigger with kids than IJ has been in the last ten years. I really don't agree with you here and I sure hope I'm right about it ;-) The IJ license has a lot of fans who will clearly want a lot of sets from the OT that TLC hasn't produced just yet !! I don't think its going to be a line intended to last for only 8 sets. You can bet we'll have more sets next year (or even later in the year) !! On a comparison you took the HP license, its a kind of biais IMO. Take for instance the Batman license: those sets do not sell well in France but this year will hit a sweet wave 3 with 4 sets !! Also take Spongebob, this year witnesses its 3rd wave and I sure hope to see more in the future. The real question lies here: will IJ follow the SW path or the SB path ? Personnally I want it to follow the SW path because there are so many great characters and vehicles that still need to be made, the options are very wide !! I really can go with 2 waves a year instead of the smaller 1/4 sets a year. Sure only time will tell but my crystal ball forsees a lot of new sets in the future ;-) *yoda* Quote
Batbrick Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 Sure only time will tell but my crystal ball forsees a lot of new sets in the future ;-) Now thats something I can agree with Yoda *y* I certainly hope that IJ last a long time, since I see it as the final nail in JT's coffin, then it certainly deserves to last a long time. It obviously won't be as popular as StarWars, nut I can see this going for a few years. Like Batman, I can see this being a successful line that lasts. Batbrick Something! *wacko* Quote
xwingyoda Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 Now thats something I can agree with Yoda *y* Finally, pfewww X-D :-P *yoda* Quote
Batbrick Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 Finally, pfewww X-D :-P *yoda* Watch out I might change my mind! :-P X-D I can definitely see where you are coming from though, and it is a good, positive standpoint. I am not really on the negative side either though, as I love the indy license so far. I'm just in the middle, sad to see Johnny go, happy to see Indy spring up, and confused over the benefits/letdowns of both of them. Ultimately though, none of us have the power to change it, so I'm just going to accept it and be happy that we have some more great sets. Long live Johnny, and if Indy's going to take over, then let him live long too. Batbrick Something! *wacko* Quote
