BusterHaus Posted September 9, 2016 Posted September 9, 2016 Looks really nice and the ladders are well done! I like the multi color version, too, it makes it easy to see the details. Quote
falconluan Posted September 9, 2016 Author Posted September 9, 2016 (edited) Thank you for all the kind words above. Which tracks will you use? I think I'll use the 5L wide track, seems that fits the scale better. Having not decided the color of the track yet. Edited September 23, 2016 by falconluan Quote

grum64 Posted September 9, 2016 Posted September 9, 2016 Looking really good. I very much look forward to seeing it completed. Quote

AFOLegofan66 Posted September 16, 2016 Posted September 16, 2016 the scale looks pretty good. I know it is hard to fit functions is such a machine. Look at Sheo's RH400. Quote

Thanks and a little update: Undercarriage is almost done. Now only details and the auto compressor are left to be done. Considering the scale of the treads, I chose the 5L treads finally. I think both its width and length fits better here. What do you think? For the tread color, I think black looks better, as it is consistent with other part of the undercarriage as the real thing. Also, for the right side of the super structure, I use the LBG 5x11 panel for two reasons: 1. I don't have enough white ones. 2. I try to present the shutters. Again, what do you think? Should I use grey? White? or build some real shutters? Thanks for watching Edited September 23, 2016 by falconluan Quote
Erik Leppen Posted September 16, 2016 Posted September 16, 2016 I'm starting to like this model more and more. Great work, also on the color scheme and detailing. But I don't like the gray 5 x 7 frame on top of the cabin. I think you could do with some black here, and achieve better detail with smaller parts. Also, I wouldn't go with the inverted gray 5 x 11 panels. They might "fit" your reference model, but they just look wrong. Rathre than trying to follow the reference, I'd just try to build a nice model. Just a suggestion: use white panels, and replace the top two panels by 3 x 11 ones. This leaves a gap of 2 x 22 studs. Try to fill this with white grill tiles. (although I'm not sure about having a single studded detail only. You might want to use studded pieces elsewhere to make it more coherent). The other alternative is to fill it with white round pin joiners, or 1 x 2 x 0.5 beams placed vertically on black axles with small spaces between. Then you hvae a fully studless solution that breaks the huge white side with some detailing without having to resort to inverted gray panels :) Quote

I'll try building something to replace the frame on the top of the cabin. Yes, you are right that I am trying to achieve a "pure" technic solution here. A pile of white 2412b tiles may fit better on the right side but I think they are a little bit fragile. Aside from what you proposed, I'll try to use some combination of white beams and grey axles. Thanks again for your suggestion and encourage. Edited September 23, 2016 by falconluan Quote
falconluan Posted October 23, 2016 Author Posted October 23, 2016 (edited) Hi, Finaly I finished the excavator. More pics at: http://bricksafe.com/pages/falconluan/r9800 Will upload the video soon. Hope you like it. Thanks for watching. Edited October 30, 2016 by falconluan Quote
Appie Posted October 23, 2016 Posted October 23, 2016 Looks really good. Great job. I like your solution for the shutters and nice details with the ladders. Model looks great in scale with the mining truck from 42055. One minor thing though, I am not sure I like the hoses on top of the arm, any chance that they could be hidden in the the arm? Quote

Glad you like it. You mean the hoses on the top of the boom? or in front of the stick? I put the hoses there to reflect the real thing's set up. Though the hoses are too HUGE speaking of scales. The hoses around the stick are a bit off from the real one's set up. They can be put inside the 5x11 frame and stick out from the side holes, but the hoses will need to be cut shorter. I'd say I prefer to stay the current setup more. Anyway, thank you for your advice. Quote
Appie Posted October 23, 2016 Posted October 23, 2016 Ah ok, makes sense to have them in the same place as the real one. One minor suggestion for that would be that I'd put them (the point where you use the T-pieces) on the turning point of the boom then (edge of 5x11 frame) at the top. I think the whole boom will look a little more fluid then. Again it's a minor thing on a really cool model, so no worries. Quote

Thirdwigg Posted October 23, 2016 Posted October 23, 2016 (edited) This turned out great. I love the size and scale. I look forward to the video. Also, those joystick controls are pretty awesome. Edited October 23, 2016 by Thirdwigg Quote
falconluan Posted October 24, 2016 Author Posted October 24, 2016 (edited) People offen complain that the pnuematic switches are hard to use, especially the downward movement. I tried to improve this by the following structure: It was inspired by the controlling mechnism of 42040. The longer control arm provides more precise controlling and it is much easier to use. There is some overlap between range of the two linkages' movement. However, the interference is totally acceptable. I tried to align the control setup the same as real world's excavators despites it seems that the opening of the bucket is via a button on the real ones. 18 hours ago, Thirdwigg said: This turned out great. Kmuffin Posted October 24, 2016 Posted October 24, 2016 This looks great. I like the addition of the dump truck from 42055 or the 42035 set. Quote
MajklSpajkl Posted November 2, 2016 Posted November 2, 2016 Heh, I just noticed a huge operator of this beast Very good idea for the controls! Quote
