This is a project over ten years in the making.

Seven years ago, I went to the Owosso Train Festival in Michigan, my home state. Me, my mother, and my older brother all rode the SP 4449, which is my brother's favourite steam locomotive. I can never forget how happy he was. He's been in love with the engine all of his life, so I decided it was time to give back.

Thanks to Tony Sava, an excellent MOC builder, I have completed this wish in Lego.

Sava's designs are awesome. Seeing SP 4449 is one of my favorites I really should buy a copy of Sava's instructions from his Bricklink store and build myself one.

The flex track was there before I made it, so I left it.

The "turf" is from an old camper of my fathers, but I plan to use baseplates on my permanent layout. It's sort of cool, and it's easily cleaned.

As for the cars, I just ordered instructions for some from Sava, and I already have a baggage car built, but not shown in the video. I also want to use the similar design to build an observation car, dome, and maybe a few "club cars" (which were never actually made in the Daylight scheme, but I like them anyways).

Does it run well? I've got a show for Christmas and I wanted to do a steam loco but it will have to run all day with no issues and I know steamers can be temperamental

Surprisingly, it's my best performing locomotive. I've run it for over five hours now and haven't noticed an issue. In fact, it operates more smoothly than any other steam locomotive in my collection, and that's saying something.

You just need to have some batteries on standby if you're going to nonstop run it all day (which goes for any power functions engine).

I highly recommend it, the build was easy and fun, and most of the parts are available on Lego.com.

Congratulations on a well built model! Tony's instructions really make easy to build a quality locomotive that will run well on any tack (even LEGO's). If you would like to give your creation that little extra POP, I suggest getting stickers, (and maybe even side rods) from our own Zephyr1934. Club cars are cool! I make good use of them when I travel. If you wish to make a period correct consist for your train I recommend the following site... http://spdaylight.net/Consist.html

I will also have a diner in between the sleeper and the first coach, but it hasn't been finished yet. They are all based on Sava's design, but with a few modifications to some.

Do you mind sharing the LDD files for the other cars you've built? I also built this engine, a coach and sleeper car but would love to build the other things you've designed too especially the baggage and observation cars!!!

I also noticed that you have the X4449 sticker near the smoke stack on yours! I would love to get the same for mine...do you have details on how/where you got that?

Since I know that you have the instructions for the main cars from Tony, I hope that it'd be safe to share them with you, but I'd have to send them to you privately.

As for the stickers, the large scale Daylight in the picture isn't mine, but is Tony's. The stickers though can be purchased from Zephyr's Bricklink store, "Brick Trains."
