October 23, 20168 yr Finally the pieces arrived, so I completed my version of the AT-ST. Some quick pictures to show the modifications. Nothing too complicated but if you want to see more detailed pictures just let me know. I am happy with the interior and improved control panel. I borrowed ideas from everybody in this and other threads, so credit to all of those fantastic modders and moccers who provide inspiration to us. Thank you, you rule. October 24, 20168 yr Author PaulPrime - I really like the way this came together! I especially love the new feet, the cockpit, leg greebling and the rounded rail. I already placed a Bricks and Pieces order based on some of the earlier images in this thread, and now I'm thinking I might need to do another!
October 24, 20168 yr Looks nice, PaulPrime - I'm going to have to do some of those mods to my own pair of AT-STs. I like pretty all of your choices in terms of what to adopt from other people's mods, as well. The only exception, maybe, are the toes/claws -- 1x2 modified plate with a clip and a cheese wedge that someone else used is a really elegant way of doing them, I think. So, anyone yet try to re-work the legs to make them slightly narrower/smaller while also adding the ability to have some walking poses? I took a crack at it but I'm not really satisfied with it. October 24, 20168 yr Wow - I haven't checked this thread for about a week so it's brilliant to see folk and still enhancing the set! My latest bit of tinkering is the feet, which even with a circular plate weren't doing it for me. I'm not 100% on the molded engine pieces so they may get changed, but the overall shape is much better than the out-of-the-box version to my eyes.

Thank you for your kind words and for starting this thread. Take into account that if you are going to order this for the top rail it is too long and you will have to cut a bit. I used the remaining bit to add some detail at the back of the neck. 17 minutes ago, Raskolnikov said: Looks nice, PaulPrime - I'm going to have to do some of those mods to my own pair of AT-STs. I tried the reversed 1x2 modified plate with a clip and a cheese wedge, but after looking for some reference pictures they were not so accurate, There are two "toes" per foot so although the shape is not correct (they should be little triangules) at least the number is. Richpepperell solution for the feet is much more accurate but implies more pieces/work.
October 26, 20168 yr Added some walking poseability -- not totally sure what I think of it, though. The joint on the feet seems to have more friction than a ball joint. Edit: version 2 below Edited November 6, 20168 yr by Raskolnikov
October 26, 20168 yr Author Love the posed legs Raskolnikov. Could you share higher res photo of just the legs and feet, or even a LDD of the construction? I'm trying to figure out exactly what you added or moved around. Thanks!

Hi how did you do reversing the direction of the head control knob on the back??

You need different length axles from those used in the original set, but otherwise it is straightforward. Make the horizontal axle longer, going all the way across the turntable assembly, and move the bevel gear on that axle from the back of the turntable to the front. Then shorten the vertical axle so that it stops above the horizontal one. Edited October 26, 20168 yr by BrickMonkeyMOCs

Uh, turned out kind of crappy resolution, but it's just regular 1x3 plates stuck on either side of a technic liftarm, locked into place with snot bricks and headlight bricks. I tried to make it fairly robust. The 1x7 liftarm then just connects to the technic beam that came with the set. I'll probably redo how the front toes/claws connect.
October 30, 20168 yr I forgot about this thread This is my modificated AT-ST Photos:https://imageshack.us/a/choM/1
November 5, 20168 yr Another version of basic adjustable legs ^ There's probably a better way to do it, but I'm ok with this for now. "Directions" here: http://imgur.com/a/PAMty

Wow, dude, some good work in here, Do you mind if I ask you some questions? what's the length of the cable you replaced the bars with on top of the roof? plus the name of the steering wheel in the cockpit? Thanx in advance! cheers @PaulPrime Also how to find your slopes in the cockpit in BL please
November 8, 20168 yr It's been a while since I tinkered with my continually evolving AT-ST, but today I decided to have a go at what I know was a lot of peoples main gripe with the set - the ankles. After building Krennics shuttle, the balljoints used for the wings were still fresh in my mind so I thought I'd give them a try. I'm fairly pleased with the dynamic range of poses I can achieve. The single ball joints didn't give quite as much friction as I wanted and it felt a bit like it could tumble over, so I added some of the extra friction brackets which sorted it out a treat (my Captain Phasma constraction figure is now a bit shorter than she was!). Even the ability to slightly splay the feet out looks a bit better than before. The only problem was the ankle connection which used the grey 3L technic bar (see last photo). This piece was slightly too long, hence the extra technic liftarm/plates (don't know the proper name) on the outside of the ankle. These add nothing to the structure and just make the ankles look a bit fat. My only other option was using the red pin-sized bars, which was too obvious. Any suggests to solve this are welcome!
November 8, 20168 yr Great mod Richpepperell! How about interior modyfications (sits for two pilots)?

The steering wheel is a handlebar. The slopes in the cockpit are regular 2x1 curved slopes on top of a 1x1 brick with stud in one side. Nice job on the ankles, Richpepperel! I am also experimenting with balljoints but on top of the feet. The feet and ankles were not designed by me, but I don't remember who was the nice guy who shared the LFX. . Ball joints on top looks nice and feet area nice shape - fancy doing an exploded view of one? I'll be doing my own but it's always nice to see the techniques used! i wonder if these AT ST mods will ever be finished?!?

There is a 4L bar inside the "claw" construction holding it together. Now let's see your design. And no, mods will never end. You can always improve a little bit more.

I actually strolled past my At St on the way to bed last night... an hour later I'd come up with something similar. I'm finding the ball joints I'm using aren't proving enough friction, though my "leg side" one is then bent type - I don't have any of the straight ones you've used. Bricklink...
November 12, 20168 yr All of these at-st modifications look brilliant! I especially like the ones that allow two minifigures in the cockpit/pilot seat.
November 12, 20168 yr Can we make a petition to force Raskolnikov to work for Lego yet? :D I ordered a couple pieces to mod mine, especially the face section, mainly to fix the eye flaps, hide the stud shooters and drag down the armor a bit a lot like Paul prime's model. I can't work my mind on why Lego decided to design the face armor like this, all of these mods don't compromise stability or sturdiness at all. After that I think the next step is the legs, they look fine when viewed on the side but they are ugly up front.

November 14, 20168 yr Huge modification. I changed the face so that there was an angle which I was inspired by from Anothergol's model. The chasis and legs are different. The legs aren't final this is just a prototype to see if this puppy will stand. Next mod will be to make shorter legs and get this more movie accurate. @LiLmeFromDaFuture Sorry it took so long, between the dreadful election nonsense and work I lost track of time. I finally found the hinge joint for the other leg and made a mockup. The chasis and the way the legs connect are heavily inspired by yours with slight modification. The legs are in fact fairly stable.

Glad to hear those socket bricks give enough friction - I've got some in a bricklink order on the way!
