Posted October 3, 20168 yr *Updated for the LDD file at the bottom.* Greetings, I would like to introduce my very first MOC! A minifig-scale UCS style New Hope era Tie Fighter. First, I'll give credit to Belkor, Jerac, Yubnub and Imperialfleet, since I borrowed styles and ideas from each of their respective Ties. My goals were for it to be minifig scale, be able to fit a minifig, use brick built wings and be worthy of a UCS label. Here it is: I started off using Belkor's cockpit and modified it. Originally I had made a rather simple wing lay out using horizontal and vertical patterns, but after I saw Yubnub's First Order Tie, I knew it would be possible to angle the bricks so I came up with my own version. Good shot of the wing pattern and technique. It's pretty swooshable, but a lot of the connections aren't conventional. High resolution pictures on Flickr. And since I always appreciate people sharing the LDD files, here it is. It's almost completely accurate with the final model. Edit: LDD file Tie Fighter And I did end up putting in the correct widescreen :) Not really sure it looks better though ;) Edited October 5, 20177 yr by Schneeds
October 3, 20168 yr I have nothing to say for the cockpit, as I have seen it many times before, even I am using on my own TIE MOC, bottom line it is a fantastic design as well sturdy. However, the wings are most impressive by the detail of the grille bricks representing the solar panels. Though the embossed spokes detract from the panels, but you preformed your best with the smooth transition of the curved slopes. I checked your flickr for a photo of the rear and noticed the use of the 6 x 6 dish which is little to flat in my opinion. To resolve this I just simply implemented the 5 x 5 lamp shade dish, and it worked out quite nicely, yet it's all personal taste. Also why did you choose that transparent cockpit, and your file link appears to be absent?
October 3, 20168 yr Well, the TIE is great, the wings are by far the best part! But you didn't appear to place the link to the LDD file...
October 3, 20168 yr Author I can't figure out how to attach the lxf file That cockpit was the only one I had access to. I might swap it out for the ones used in the Tie Advanced.
October 4, 20168 yr I LOVE the texture on the wings!! This is an amazing MOC! The only problem I see is that the cockpit piece is the final duel one, not the regular TIE one. Otherwise, fantastic job!

October 4, 20168 yr Absolutely stunning! I feel like a nitpicker but my only problem is the pylons on the wings seem too thick and detracts my OCD eye, other than that its most definitive version ive seen!
October 4, 20168 yr Author Unfortunately they only make the train rails used in Lego's UCS version in that length which is too long. I thought about buying a bunch and cutting them to size, but then it wouldn't be legitimate :)
October 4, 20168 yr Have you thought about using , the 99784 version? They worked out nicely on my TIE Fighter, but maybe not so much on yours since it is connected differently.
October 4, 20168 yr Author It has to be something with connection points along the length so that i can hold the tiles in place. I tried piping with clips but it didn't look as good. I don't mind the chunkiness as much because it matches the wings of the Tie Advanced :) Edited October 4, 20168 yr by Schneeds
October 5, 20177 yr Author Here you go. You can't upload LDD files to eurobricks anymore. Tie Fighter I did end up swapping in the correct widescreen for it :) The LDD is almost 100% accurate. You can actually insert a 2x3 plate brick on the bottom half of the wings and it will squeeze together just barey which makes it solid.
