SkaForHire Posted October 9, 2016 Posted October 9, 2016 To the citizens of the Brick Seas. If the maroons of Eslandola do not remove themselves from La Isla de Medio by October 14th, 616, the King of Mardier will issue a letter of marque to all willing participants. The letter states that the captain may attack Eslandola’s vessels of all nature in the name of Mardier. This will be considered a lawful prize to all courts in all nations, as Mardier and Eslandola shall then be at war. Along with this letter of marque, the king offers a generous reward for every Eslandolan vessel taken or sunk in the conflict. Captains may keep the vessel, with a clear title for 15% of the value of the treasure on board. Any Eslandolan Warship taken or destroyed will also merit the victor 100 gold doubloons. We encourage Eslandola to rethink their discretions and avoid this fruitless war. Sincerely Count Adwin Encarnacion Minister of the Colonies of Mardier We were surprised that you could settle a village so close to a major city. This must prove that Eslandolans are blind! Capt Wolf Posted October 9, 2016 Author Posted October 9, 2016 (edited) "Did you hear that?" asked the sentry. "Yeah, that was creepy," said another sentry. "Naw, it was just the wind," said a third. "Man, if you look over there, it almost looks like something man-made." Felipe took out his spyglass and studied the terrain in the distance. "Men, I think we have stumbled onto a major archaeological discovery! I think those are ruins in the jungle." "Woah, I think you're right. Those ruins must have been here for centuries, maybe a thousand years! Wait until the Corries hear about this. They'll be all over the place excavating stuff and studying things!" "We must send word to Fuerte Unido of this discovery," said Felipe, and so a messenger was dispatched with news of this historical find. * * * "Why are you shaking me?" demanded Sargento Felipe. "You were daydreaming, sir," said the soldier. "What do we do about this?" Felipe shook off the cobwebs in his head and focused on the beach. There, at the mouth of the river, was a Marderian settlement, not an ancient ruins as Felipe briefly hoped! Felipe gathered his thoughts, but then his military experience took hold. "Antonio, head back to Fuerte Unido as fast as you can. We must inform the others of this immediately. The situation on the island is not as we thought." "Yes sir!" "Wait! We will head back up-river to find a new location for the fort. Include this in your message to Capitan Alonzo." And with that Antonio gathered his gear and headed back to Fuerte Unido. Felipe took the men back up-river to find a location for the fort. And soon they did. About midway between the two settlements, Felipe found a small hill that had an excellent vantage point at a bend in the river. This location would still protect Fuerte Unido's northern flank, and would allow them to cut-off any supplies the Marderians might send to or receive from the interior of the island.
