MatthewUSA Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 Thank you phoinix for all the photos. I *wub* the color scheme TLC chose for this set. I am especially :'-) that navy blue was chosen. What a great parts set just for that color. I really hope that this set gives us a glimps into new colors TLC will be releasing through the coming year and in the future. Quote
jonwil Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 Now that is a NICE set. Although if I had the money, I would probably buy the 787 Dreamliner and not the beetle :) Quote
simonwillems Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 I went to the Lego exhibition in Frechen/Germany last weekend, but I thought you all had seen pics of the beetle. So I didn Quote
Holodoc Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 I forgot to mention: The wheels roll ;-) , but the car is NOT steerable. :-( The overall length is around 40 cm. Quote
Athos Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 I'll probably have to pass on this one in favor of the Castle, Indy and Town Plan sets. Steve Quote
Hobbes Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 but the car is NOT steerable. :-( Great, same crap as with 4404, only that wasn't 120 Euros :-| Quote
Bobskink Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 It looks okay, but it could have been better, especially for 120 Quote
Widdi Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 *wub* This looks like a nice Model-Teamish set, but my only gripe ist, that it hasn't got a steering. The price sounds ok, too with 1000pcs at 120€, altough not breaking the 10/1€ barrier. mFg Widdi Quote
5150 Lego Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 Great, same crap as with 4404, only that wasn't 120 Euros :-| I hear ya. Mine got a complete over haul my 4404 Man, for as expensive as this set is, it doesn't seem to have many features. Idon't mind mocing a set to fit my likings, but at that price you would think the basics would already be taken care of. :-/ Quote
Hobbes Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 I hear ya. Mine got a complete over haul my 4404 Yeah, I saw that. And I was impressed. I still am. Cos that's how I pictured it should be and wanted to mod mine, but I'm totally inept at modding :-$ Quote
simonwillems Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 Man, for as expensive as this set is, it doesn't seem to have many features. Idon't mind mocing a set to fit my likings, but at that price you would think the basics would already be taken care of. :-/ I think this model is more of a buildersset than a play set, intended for (adult) collectors and therefor a model to display somewhere in your room instead of riding around on the carpet. Still, some steering would have been nice, but that would have had consequences for the boot/trunk space in front. You almost certainly would need all the space in there to stop the front wheels from hitting anything. I'd rather have both a detailed trunk and steering, but when I need to chose either one of them I'd like the detailed trunk. This set is getting cheaper everyday, from 150 to 130 to 119 euro's, thanks Holodoc! ;-) Quote
Hinckley Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 more detailed pictures of this model i guess this picture shows how they went from the prototype to the final model the engine front view the back inside run baby run!! Looks like you re-named your BS folder. Could you edit the links in your post if you have the time? Thanks. Quote
voltio Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 Great, same crap as with 4404, only that wasn't 120 Euros :-| I am also disappointed that steering is absent from this model. Yes, it is a collectors' model meant for display, but that didn't stop Lego from designing a steering rack into the old Model Team sets, or into the Creator 4896 Roaring Roadsters ( *wub* ), which cost less. The colors of this VW are nice, though. Quote
CopMike Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 I like it and going to get it *wub*! It Quote
JimBee Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 meh, this doesnt appeal to me so much... i would rather have lego make pirates of the carribean or lord of the rings... random, i know... Quote
Brickmaster Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 With 1800 peices, thats alot of dark blue bricks! Being one of my favourite colours of lego, that sounds great, although I don't know if Id dare taking it apart. For larger sets like this, isnt the Euro sign just replaced with the dollar sign for american price? So 120 bucks? Not bad. Quote
brickzone Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 Very nice model! I'd really like it. However, with an order for Town Plan, Dwarves Mine and a couple other sets kicking off the year, and more Castle sets and others to come, I'm not sure I'll be able to fit this one in. I do like the colours, as well as the building style for the model. I'm not a fan of insisting on smooth surfaces everywhere on Lego models. That's just not Lego-ish if you know what I mean, although it's perfectly good style for use in some circumstances. Quote
M'Kyuun Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 For a new model, I think it's OK. It looks very LEGO with all those studs. I love the dark blue, so I may pick one up for parts. Found this on BS. The rest of his gallery is worth a look...amazing stuff. http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=246343 Quote

Lots of detail, yet still poseses the round shape of the new bettle without being to blocky. I like it and going to get it *wub*! It Edited January 14, 2008 by 5150 Lego Quote
xwingyoda Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 Am I the only one thinking that set is a disgrace and insult to Ferdinand Porsche ? Dang, Networkless I couldn't visit EB and when I do log in its to find that !! My eyes, it burns !! What an ugly set IMO, and the color scheme doesn't really help at all !! And 120 is very steep for a parts pack !! Lets hope that thing will remain exclusive |-/ *yoda* Quote
snefroe Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 well at first i wasn't convinced at all. hardly any details, weird color combinations, too many basic bricks instead of smooth lines... but it's kinda growing on me. sure , 120 euro is a lot and i can't really see where all those 1800 parts go into, but i think it's a great display set to show friends and family that lego is not just a stupid toy.
