lightningtiger Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 Always consider this everyone, what is popular in a child's mind ? Ask an 8 year old who James Bond is and unless it's on Nick or Cartoon Network chances are very small that they'll know who he is. So what's popular with kids around the world think about that and not just in your own country....Lego is a global product hence it must sell anywhere on the planet. Lego totally missed the boat on Ben10.....we all wanted to see Kevin's car right ? I guess anything from Marvel or DC Comics would sell well. Just my opinion anyway, Brick On Everyone ! Quote
Fives Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 I think LEGO has always needed to make a Lord of the Rings theme. I know that LOTR is not very popular with most kids, but with the new Hobbit movie coming out, they could do some stuff from LOTR also, if they got a license. Just imagine all the new parts.... Quote
TheLonelySquireOfGothos Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 Star Trek TOS/TNG would be my ultimate dream license, the possibilities would be nearly endless. Alas, that'll never happen, as it wouldn't be popular with kids, and I'm sure there's only enough room for one licensed Sci-fi brand, sadly. I'd also love to see Lego Transformers, but I think that's another pipe dream. Quote
Jargo Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 Roald Dahl books. James and the giant peach, Fantastic Mr. Fox, The BFG, Charlie and the chocolate factory/The great glass elevator, Matilda, George's Marvellous Medicine, The Twits, The Witches, etc. Classic stories known the world over. Rich in fantasy and strong characters, good and bad. Stories parents will know and possibly have had read to them and then read to their children. I think it's great idea to use kids books as inspiration rather than lacklustre cartoons. Might encourage kids to read. Doubtful I know but if I was a parent I'd buy something based on a first class book before something based on vapid mind numbing tv shows. Quote
doriansdad Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 I would love a Goonies theme. I loved that movie as a kid and enjoyed watching it again with my 8yo son. We would love minifigs of Chunk and Data. Quote
AncientCiv Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 ^If done properly, I'd buy sets for LOTR, Narnia, and Goonies. Maybe this has been said before, but I'd like LEGO to do a LEGO version of the board-game Clue or Cluedo. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clue_%28game%29 It is one of my all time favorite boardgames. Colonel Mustard, Mrs. White, Mrs. Peacock, Professor Plum etc. would be LEGO minfigures. The game board made of lego pieces. The various rooms would be constructed of lego brinks with walls. No ceilings (so you can place the minfigs in the rooms). The Library would have bookshelves on up against the walls. The Billiard Room would have a mini lego billiard table. Basically, make the rooms very similar to the actual board game. Maybe construct the board it in such a way so that there are four sections that can be linked together or deconstructed easily for storage. Quote
Tazmaniac Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 I know it's been said but I have to second the Asterix theme I'd like to see Peter pan theme, New pirate ship and crew, island sets, Indian camp and lost boy MiniFigs.Maybe in classic Disney style (bear suits, racoon skin hats ect)lots of little legs to be had and plenty of scope for sets. Not something we're likely to see but I think thats the point of this thread. Quote
benhead Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 Alien 2 theme!Specially an ultimate collector set of the colonial marines APC and the dropship it docked inside of! I`ve tried several times to build my own apc but they never look right cause of the complex angles on its front end.And that weird uneven triangular wind shield. You either have to make it in a huge scale to get it to look right or get the lego group to mold new pieces. I`ve tried alot of times to build a mini figure scale xenomorph(alien)but they always come out too blocky so,lego needs to mold the head and stick it on a regular mini`s body, then just add a neck accessory that comes with a long bendy tail with a spike. The feet/hands would have thin clip on claws. Eggs and facehuggers should be soft rubber, easy to get out and wrap around a mini figure`s head. The sets I`d make are; Colonial Marines APC.800 pieces, holds 6 marines plus the driver.Has turnable forward and top guns. The top gun could slide on a rail system from the rear but its not very easy to build in a small scale,so I`d suggest it just pulled off and moved. Minifigure load out consists of 1 driver,2 marines with smart guns,3 marines with pulse rifles,1 marine with flame thrower. APC dropship.1200 pieces, holds 2 minifigures and a mini scale apc.Includes 1 alien,1 egg,2 facehuggers. Power Loader.400 pieces. This is the smaller scale version, should sell at the $30-$40 price point.Has 1 minifigure,1 facehugger. Alien Queen`s chamber.600-800 pieces, includes new alien queen head mold with retractible inner jaws!Has 30 eggs,30 facehuggers,2 minifigures(Ripley and newt).Has slotted walls for minifigure victims.Building the queen`s egg pouch would be tough so I would`nt bother. The queen can be removed from the wall, possibly bionicle part based. Power Loader vs Queen Alien.900 pieces.3 minifigures(ripley, newt, bishop). Alien battle pack 1.5 xenomorphs,2 eggs,2 facehuggers. Alien battle pack 2.2 royal guards,1 queen,1 facehugger. Marine battle pack 1.5 marines,2 sentry guns. Marine battle pack 2.classic characters(ripley,hicks,bishop,burke,newt),1 facehugger with holding tube. Ultimate collector sets. Alien queen.Whew, with its size and curves,I`m not sure lego is prepared to tackle this one!It could just be the head I guess. At least 3000 pieces! Alien warrior.2000 pieces, about 26 inches tall. Power Loader.2000 pieces, about 24 inches tall.Cause of its simple blocky form, please no driver! Colonial Marines APC.3000 pieces.very detailed interior,lift-off roof, working headlights, motorized top gun.It travels on a curved rail with gear teeth molded into it.Or just toothed curved plates/bricks. APC Dropship. This is the pre-james cameron`s Avatar air ship design.Comes with motorized loading ramp, accurate too-scale mini APC,folding/unfolding wings with removable missles.3500-5000 pieces. This would be a beast to build! BasOne Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 (edited) I allways fancied Starcraft as a nice license. You've got youre Humans, High tech Aliens, Monster Aliens and Enough vehicles and buildings to make any AFOL weep. Not to mention the play value.. AARGH my zerglings are gonna eat your puny marines.. *rumble rumble* Gonna make you regret using you're siege tanks on my poor zerglings, eat mutalisk venom.... Actually, on another forum they were giving away LU beta keys for the best LEGO license idea.. I won one with the Starcraft license Edited January 15, 2011 by BasOne Quote
Blackknight112 Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 I really want to see 300 and lotr, it may be possible since lego already made a elf and a spartan, maybe they make a non linced theme inspired by the movie(s)? Quote

It would be great fun, with lots of nice builds. But I doubt LEGO would do it the way I'd like them to- they'd probably use those horrible micro-figures, and the room would be small or flat. What about a Kung-Fu panda theme? I mean, there's the new film coming out this year, and my younger brothers loved the first one. Personally, I wouldn't like it (because they would have to have big, moulded heads to look like the characters, and I don't really like figs like that) but kids might like it. I would like a James bond theme, but I doubt they'll make one because its not really for children. I'd also like a LotR theme, and I do think that's possible if they make a new film. I'd also like a Narnia theme, which is possible. Quote

ka.lego Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 Since Tron is a Disney Film I think lego wouldn't have a problem getting a license and It would be a very good theme, Although I don't think lego would keep it very long like they did with speed racer. I know that in April this was an April Fools joke, but there's still a possibility that this might happen. I have a contact at Disney, and their opinion is that it's possible, but will be determined by the numbers and perceived business potential. As we've all seen with the action figures, clothing, lifestyle accessories, etc., that came out of Disney's licensing division for the release of "TRON: Legacy", they're interested in pushing the property. They've grossed about $325 million worldwide from the box office...they spent about $170 million. Not a huge gain, as far as movies go, but definitely enough to continue the planned 2011 animated series and begin talks about the sequels. They're really trying to turn this into a franchise that targets a certain group of kids. The aforementioned animated series would definitely make things even more "kid friendly / appealing" which could signal something for the potential of a TRON LEGO theme. For example, despite much of the AFOL grumbling over the increase in production of Clone Wars LEGO vs. Star Wars films (esp the original trilogy), there's a reason why more sets are being made from the weekly animated series targeted at the kids rather than the movies that came out in the 70s and 80s...hint, hint, wink wink. So maybe the TRON animated series may be the clincher. Plus, if there's continued buzz amongst AFOLs as well...just sayin'. The performance of the Prince of Persia line wasn't so hot, so I think that may have some Mouse suits hmming and hahhhing. I think the upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean theme will also be a testing ground. Why do I personally care so much? Well, Disney's more than a good fit for LEGO in terms of general compatibility of their business interests. But more importantly, not only does Disney have it's properties, but now it controls Marvel's! And if Disney sees that LEGO licenses are a good way of broadening their properties (aka selling their wares), it brings me that much closer to having X-Men, Avengers, Fantastic Four, etc. LEGO to obsess over. Ha. No really though, if Disney were to fully embrace the potential of their LEGO licensing deal by considering TRON and Marvel themes, it would seem like now would be the time to strike, considering the upcoming TRON series and 2011 and 2012's onslaught of Marvel live-action feature films: Thor, Captain America: The First Avenger, The Avengers. Dare to dream. Make mine Marvel. End of line. (Sorry, I'm a geek.) Quote
fred67 Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 Always consider this everyone, what is popular in a child's mind ? ... Lego totally missed the boat on Ben10.....we all wanted to see Kevin's car right ? Well, we go back and forth between "dream" licenses and what's "realistic." The title of the thread is "Dream LEGO Licenses," so I don't think they need to be realistic. Having worked on both live action Ben 10 movies (airing on Cartoon Network, I work in a TV production facility), I was baffled by TLG's decision to do Ben 10, but I was like "ok, let's wait and see what it looks like." When it was "oh, mediocre Bionicle style..." it just made no sense - you got none of the other characters, none of the vehicles, you couldn't really do anything with them... are the different alien forms Ben can morph into supposed to fight each other? A minifigure version would have made a whole lot more sense. I also would like to see LOTR more than anything. Not only is it my "dream" license, I think it's also completely realistic, despite what so many people say to the contrary. There's plenty of sets that could be made, both large and small... I've mentioned before I could probably come up with 50 off the top of my head, not including The Hobbit based sets. And contrary to thinking about what 8 year olds are interested in, the fact is that many 8, 9, and 10 year olds were perfectly "aware" and enthralled by LOTR when it came out, despite the maturity rating of the films... the video game franchise for LOTR continues to this day. I don't think it's unrealistic at all. The same was being said of Harry Potter, in fact... it was getting "too mature," it was getting "too dark," and not appropriate for kids, which is why (it was said) they hadn't made any in years... yet many of the new sets sold out for Christmas, including the most expensive one. Diagon Alley temporarily sold out already (although it's already available again), and it's official release was only Jan. 1. Quote

Elander Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 This year have LOTR (The Fellowship of the Ring, 2001) the 10 anniversary and it is one year before The Hobbit. The next Tolkien-hipe will not be longer than maybe 2014. If not now produce, when? J.R.R. Tolkiens Middle-earth is to big. LEGO can't create and produce all the peoples and locations. But if LEGO want the biggest possible buisness (I mean to produce the maximum what is possible in this time), than they must start now (this year, 2011)! Quote

But if LEGO want the biggest possible buisness (I mean to produce the maximum what is possible in this time), than they must start now (this year, 2011)! I was taking a look at your list, and it is very good indeed, but it encompasses too much of the Tolkien world. The majority of the population will be familiar with the Peter Jackson films (the three LOTR and The Hobbit). No offense, but I believe that if LEGO ever got the license, then my list seems more realistic. But, LEGO's main target market is young children. LOTR is not very child friendly, due to the scary content. But, if the new Hobbit movie is not as scary for younger viewers (but I doubt it will be) then LEGO could jump at the chance and get the license for the Hobbit. If LEGO did this, they could release some sets based on LOTR before they release the Hobbit sets (similar to what they did with the Indiana Jones theme). Although, I doubt LEGO would ever do this. But we can always hope... Quote

I'm sorry. I really don't think that would be very popular. For one, the TV show is crap, imo. Second, the sets wouldn't sell, because most kids would say: What is Total Drama? Its not like spongebob which about every kid in the world knows about. Its a little, small show on CN. If the show had more viewers, it could be made. But there is no potential for this show. FYI: Total Drama is actually a Canadian Cartoon from a Canadian TV channel called Teletoon. The original premiere date of Total Drama Island (Season 1) is Sunday, July 8, 2007. What do you mean the show doesn't have much viewers? Quote
The Legonater Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 I'd like a LEGO Men In Black line. Suddenly I have the urge to hold a LEGO midget cricket Despite the age of the series and even the movie, I think an A-Team theme would be incredible. Quote

Hopefully, if Hollywood follows through on the planned Stargate sequels, we'll see LEGO Stargate. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stargate_%28film%29 To get ancient Chinese flesh-colored minifigures, how about LEGO license the movie: "The Forbidden Kingdom". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Forbidden_Kingdom Edited January 31, 2011 by AncientCiv Quote
