Something that should also not be ignored is that the audience for the most successful video games doesn't necessarily have an enormous overlap with the audience for building toys.

I think this says most of it, really. I'm not sure there's enough gamers who would purchase LEGO sets to make it a very viable enterprise for most franchises. M*** B***** has done World of Warcraft for awhile of course, though I'm not sure how popular that's been for them. And with their costs, I imagine they don't have to make nearly as much as LEGO would to turn a profit.

Interesting thoughts, everyone.

There's really only one licensed theme I'd love to see, and I don't know if it counts since it already happened, but was discontinued: Harry Potter. There's so much from that world that could have been made into LEGO (I especially wanted a new Chamber of Secrets to add on to the 2010 Hogwarts). I know it probably won't happen, due to the movies being over, but it would still be nice. :cry_sad:

After looking at ramjarjamjar's Jurassic Park vehicle MOCs I realized how much I'd love to see LEGO do a proper Jurassic Park theme. It doesn't feel like an unrealistic dream either, considering LEGO has good ties with Universal (the CUUSOO Back to the Future set is recent proof of that) and they've made themes of Spielberg franchises before as well. Not to mention those Jurassic Park III sets from back in the day. Considering there will most likely be another Jurassic Park movie sooner or later (probably 2014 or 2015 judging by IMDb), I really hope Universal partners up with LEGO and do a full-blown Jurassic Park theme covering all the films (like LEGO and Paramount/Lucasfilm did with Indiana Jones).

I completely agree!!! Jurassic Park is one of my few favorite franchises that hasn't yet been made as a full-fledged Lego theme. I'm definitely crossing my fingers that we'll see one for Jurassic Park IV.

I would really love to see Oz sets. Disney is releasing an Oz prequel this year, and I'd much rather see sets for that instead of the Lone Ranger film. But even if they aren't specific to that film, most of the Oz stuff is in public domain so they could easily make some sets. I worry that Lego would give these sets the Friends treatment if they went with the plan--I'd much rather see some legit sets based on locations (Emerald City, Witch's castle, etc.).

I have been listening to the TRON: Legacy soundtrack, and I came to the realization that A) TRON is a Disney franchise, B) Disney is making a TRON sequel, and C) LEGO has the rights to Disney. All of this adds up to a very nice chance of a TRON theme, which would be absolutely brilliant and likely sell well due to its sic-fi feel and abundance of cool vehicles.

I'm sure it has already come up, but Robotech would be my dream theme after my two other dreams Star Wars and Lord of the Rings have come true...Lego make it three for three please.

Some weeks (months?) ago a read an article about Disney thinking to reboot the Rocketeer. I wouldnt mind to see some sets based on that guy. :classic:

It is set in an interesting era anyway.. a lot of new technologies being develloped, interesting car and plane designs.. and a lot of potential for retro scifi stuff.

In that view its a pitty that TLG only gave us a Captain America set based on the Avengers movie, and not based on his own picture.

Well, at least they gave us some nice Indiana Jones planes and cars sets..

Oz sets would indeed be awesome, but if you'll forgive me I'd rather see them based (somehow) on the Marvel Comics Oz series than on the new movie by Sam Raimi. I'm a bit of a purist and not too optimistic about the ways in which Sam Raimi's new film seems to be re-imagining the Oz mythos. The Marvel Comics version seems in contrast to be extremely faithful to L. Frank Baum's original books, though with an expressive aesthetic which would be hard or even impossible to mimic with LEGO minifigures.

Jurassic Park IV was officially announced today!! Release date has been set for June 13, 2014. I'm starting to get really excited about the prospect of a Lego theme.......MAN, I hope that happens!! :cry_happy:

Yeah, I heard about that too! One good reason to think it might actually happen is that the Dino theme is now disappearing and LEGO will be sitting around with all these brand new dinosaur moulds that they can't use for anything else. Another year and a half would definitely be enough time passed since Dino as well for another theme with dinosaurs. To be honest, I don't see any reason at all for LEGO and Universal to not team up on a Jurassic Park theme.

Fingers crossed!

JP4 license would be indeed dream come true. I remember when I was a kid there were wannabe-lego bricks based on JP1, I always wanted to see them made by lego. I would definitely pick raptor set ; )

I would really want a Jurassic Park theme...

I kind of missed the Dino theme. I mean, I really wanted those Dinosaurs. However, everything else about the Dino sets sucked. Everything. So I could never pull the trigger with my limited funds.

I'd love a way to get the Dinos again. Maybe in GOOD sets this time. However, with the failure of Dino maybe Lego will be offput to do a Jurassic Park lego theme. Maybe not since it's a movie. Who knows...

Also... 2014. A long way off.

Since I know I will never see a Lego liscensc set to my favorite videogame, Borderlands, I will have to see what I can do to customize the vault hunters...

Do you have any link or fact to backup you saying the Dino line was a failure? I think it's great and I bought every set.

LEGO has already licensed the number one theme for me: Lord of the Rings. I just wish they would make about twice as many sets, or else a line of UCS sets, which would be awesome.

Otherwise? I know it won't happen, but a line based on Fallout: New Vegas would be cool- the weapons/ruins/desert theme would be pretty neat.

The second Percy Jackson film is coming out soon that and with Lego already doing mythology themed minifigs it would be a natural fit between the two.

Definitely Jurassic Park and Independence Day(since the 3D version of it is coming out soon, and reportedly a trilogy is planned.......so why not?)

edit: 3D version got cancelled......darn

I'm definitely hoping for some Jurassic Park 4 sets. After all we've had some Jurassic Park sets in the past and now with the molds from the Dino theme it wouldn't be difficult at all to make these sets a reality.

Just found out Mega Bloks got Pokemon in Japan... geeze. Some of the sets don't look too bad. But most of the POkemon are just bricks with pokemon printed on them. :P

I've often wondered how Pokemon would do with Lego but brushed it off since there's so many Pokemon and they look dumb when made with bricks. I'd of course need custom molds for each of the 600+ (700+ come October!). ;)

I've been thinking about what I'd like to see and to be honest the licences they have are great but are just missing the spot in some areas, primarily for me the DC Batman licence is crying out for a UCS style Tumbler, I'd love that.

If I were to pick something new I'd like to see Back To The Future (already on its way, sort of :D ) and the Ghostbusters, a general smattering of 80s TV show sets would be ridicules but brilliant, A-Team, Knightrider and the Dukes Of Hazzard spring to mind!

No chance for the TV sets I know but they would be brilliant :)

I think it's fairly evident that it didn't do as well as they probably would have liked. Otherwise it wouldn't be discontinued. And after only a year too.

I would like to have the Mass Effect Licence: Shepard, Garrus, the Krogans, the Normandy... OMG, it could be awesome !

I'd love that too. But after Mass Effect 3 it's even less likely. The only chance is if those movies they've been trying to put together work out.

There's been plenty of one and dones lately. Alien Conquest and Pharaohs Quest to name a few. Monster Fighters seems to be in the same boat as well. Kingdoms had a wave and a half you could say. I have no numbers on any of these themes that were so short lived, but it seems to be the norm for Action themes of recent years.
