Posted November 14, 20168 yr It should be recalled that Alex, Henry, and Jimmy were "prospecting" and found what they believed to be gold. Despite their beliefs, it was determined that actually they had found quicksilver. Once they were told, they went around and informed everyone that they had discovered the largest mine of silver in the history of forever. Their fathers on the other hand, contacted the WETEC in regard to the discovery, and soon a mine was opened. The red cinnabar ore that contained the quicksilver was removed from an underground shaft, and carted to the surface. Here we see a wagon load being pulled by draft horses to the new factory on the outskirts of town. Inside the mine, they are about ready to push a new cartload out to the next wagon waiting to be loaded. Lanterns provide light for the workers. Here is an overview of the build.

November 15, 20168 yr Nice build! The 2 layers work well together and the ore is nicely integrated in the rocks. Favourite part is the socks you gave the horses, great idea!
November 15, 20168 yr Great Idea stacking the builds like so. The mine and the mining cart is great, but my favourite part is the horse carriage and those shoed horses as Puvel mentioned. Great mine!

November 15, 20168 yr Nice mining shaft and wagon, SilentWolf! As mentioned, I also like the two layers of this build! The supports in the shaft and the rock face are very convincing of a mining shaft. The trolley is a great addition. My favorite detail is the plates added on the horses' hooves! This definitely makes them look more like draft horses (to pull a large, loaded cart) than simple riding horses! I wonder... does this look as nice on the newer horse mold? I might have to try this. I mixed the dark red and normal red to simulate the variations in the cinnabar ore coloring. Though I do agree with you that the darker red does look better in the Lego build. Thank you to everyone for the compliments. The two levels was an attempt due to the appeal of so many other multi level builds in BoBS. I can't say I achieved what others have but it did provide a nice way to show multiple concepts in the one build. The wagon was built to be larger to match the ore wagons of the West so it might be a little later in era, but I felt comparable enough to use. Though as @Slegengr pointed out I needed draft horses to pull such a large wagon. Thus the concept of putting socks on the horses to give them height came about. I don't think it would work as well on the new horses as it would look weird on the bent leg to have extra length and would be really odd to only have 3 legs extended. I did portray the mercury in its most common ore form of cinnabar which would be processed to make pure mercury. I have intention to make a factory for Elizabethville to portray the process, but it won't happen this month as was originally intended. So many ideas to build and so little time....
November 21, 20168 yr I don't know how I failed to comment on this build earlier. I really like the dual level build, and the representation of the mercury/cinnabar is ingenous! Well done!
