technic_addict Posted December 22, 2016 Posted December 22, 2016 Just now, Blakbird said: Yes, I am using V1. I drove the chassis around my house last night with no problems. It might be different once all the weight of the body is added. Ideally, I may later convert this model to SBrick. I didn't look at instructions carefully but maybe V1 IR will work if two XL motors and M motor is on one unit and Servo and lights on the other. I think this is a good model to be using Sbrick which is what I will likely do. The IR's seem to be covered up a bit as well which may limit the range further. Looking at the instructions it looks like the 2 XL's and servo is on the same IR. 2 L's and servo don't work so I have to assume that 2 XL's and servo shouldn't work? Quote
Lox Lego Posted December 22, 2016 Author Posted December 22, 2016 Thank you two for testing out these instructions. Tonight I will think of a solution for the steering wheel and upload correction photos. I had to film the car on one of the last beautiful days of the fall and rushed outside to film the car. I'm super happy with the video and photos but didn't fully review the whole build. Thanks for being patient and letting me know of the issues so I could correct them. You two are the first to actually build this car from scratch with these instructions. I presume other builders re-build their model to find any of these things. I may have to do that in the future. Blackbird, regarding the weight, I believe you will be very happy to see how well the suspension and drivability of this car is completely built up! Quote
Blakbird Posted December 22, 2016 Posted December 22, 2016 If you are keeping a log of errors, there are a few others. The parts list shows only 1 XL motor including on the page that actually installs two of them. The page that shows the installation of the front bumper corners also only shows how to build one side but not the other side. There are a few places where the parts cannot be assembled in the order shown, but it was not a big deal to just remove some things to get it to work. One other issue is that not all motors have exactly the same length wires. The wire from the left XL motor is very tight and mine was not quite long enough so I had to change the routing a bit. You need to be careful not to interfere with the gear that drives the engine. by the way, I like how fast the engine is geared to turn! 33 minutes ago, Lox Lego said: Tonight I will think of a solution for the steering wheel and upload correction photos. If you use a belt instead of a chain, you can just put it in a Figure-8 to reverse the direction. Quote

Lox Lego Posted December 23, 2016 Author Posted December 23, 2016 This is the fix for the steering in the Hennessey Venom GT. My only concern is if the large gear is too high and interferes with the hood. Remove the 8L axles, 2 gears and chain and replace it with this setup with 10L axles below: This is the fix for the steering in the Hennessey Venom GT. Blakbird Posted December 24, 2016 Posted December 24, 2016 I finished building today. There is a serious problem in the area of the tail lights. The back bumper doesn't fit at all because the 3x5 L-shaped black liftarm that supports the lights interferes with it by a whole stud. I thought I was doing something wrong, but then I checked the LDraw file and see that it has the same interference. I was able to make some changed to get the bumper to fit, but now the tail light lenses won't go on. Can you take some pictures of this area with the cover (the red panel behind the spoiler) removed? Other than that, I have been having a lot of fun with this. I drove it around my wood floor all afternoon. Some of the bodywork is a bit fragile, but it sure does look good. Design-wise, the only thing I might change is the seats. Because they are black and red like the rest of the car, they kind of blend in and I hardly see them. I think they need a little contrast. I was thinking about changing the red seat stripe to light gray. The lengths of the flex axles for the flex part on the bottom of the windshield are not right. It says to use 2x 12L and 2x 11L, but all 4 really need to be 11L. It doesn't fit at all if you use 2x 12L. The other lengths seem OK. There's one error in the big flex part that makes up the inside of the front fender. On Page 102, Step 3 It shows a blue half pin in the third 5L beam which is hard to see. This actually needs to be in the second 5L beam. If you put it in the third, then two sides of the fender are too close together and the hood won't close. It took me a LONG time to figure this one out. Quote

Did the correction for the steering wheel direction work from above? In regards to the lights, here is a photo to reference: https://goo.gl/photos/Z3Gmh1EMY2ocHwYDA & https://goo.gl/photos/vjwENWC42xJLf6wH7 & https://goo.gl/photos/EZeKVYvhQfnGXmtJ8 The whole build is shared in google photos here for your reference: https://goo.gl/photos/dy2DnhMWxqHDehmh9 For the front windshield, I did use 2x 11L axles and 2x 12L axles in my build. It seemed to work better because they were on an angle, and the longer 12L connected better. See here: https://goo.gl/photos/3mHodgxfLM7m5JpQ9 & https://goo.gl/photos/wJDwjGmMLcGu7w3Z7 I'm very happy to hear the car drives well. I had a ton of fun driving this car around too. Quote
Blakbird Posted December 24, 2016 Posted December 24, 2016 Thanks for the pictures, I was able to figure out the problem. The entire bumper was installed one stud too far forward causing the interference. In Step 118 on Page176, it is hard to tell which holes to use to line up with the arrows. It looks like the holes in the 5L should be used, but it actually the holes in the 15L behind in. Once I made this correction, everything works OK. Quote
technic_addict Posted January 9, 2017 Posted January 9, 2017 Other than the doors (which I am waiting for a couple pieces) I am done building this piece of art. There is no gearbox or advanced steering but this creation deserves to be in the HOF. There are some new methods introduced in this model (wheel fenders), and some very intricate and complicated geometry techniques done here. Although in some cases a little bit of force is required to make it work. The rear end of this car is just amazing how some things were put together. Not sure if I am alone, maybe @Blakbird can chime in with his thoughts since he has also built it. Amazing job @Lox Lego This is truly an amazing creation. Quote
technic_addict Posted January 18, 2017 Posted January 18, 2017 Done! Nothing new on the outside so will post my interior. Camera battery died so unfortunately the phone camera will have to do. Quote
