BrickMonkeyMOCs Posted November 26, 2016 Posted November 26, 2016 (edited) As great as Mike Psiaki's 10248 Creator Expert F40 set is, it definitely benefits from extending the wheelbase and rear end by a stud to improve the overall proportions. I made this modification back in February, but I was recently asked for the parts needed to make this change and have subsequently spent the last few days building the modified version in LDraw so that I would have a permanent record of the mod to use as instructions. And now that it's done I might as well share it here for anyone else interested in making the same adjustment. I've also removed the stickers and windscreen printing, and replaced the printed C-pillar wedges with plain red ones. The extra stud of length is added to the doors, side skirts, and space between the rear window and wing. bataleon Posted November 26, 2016 Posted November 26, 2016 This is really great! I've always thought the 10248 was a little bit squished, your changes have made it perfect. Thank you :) Quote
koalayummies Posted November 26, 2016 Posted November 26, 2016 That is awesome documenting what needs to be done for a great mod like that. Good looking out for your fellow builders. Quote
Rishab N Posted November 28, 2016 Posted November 28, 2016 Thanks for posting this. I was looking at your pictures a while back wondering if I could reproduce the mods. It really helps the looks of the car Quote

Thanks for this! Finally picked up the F40 set despite waffling on it for what seems to have been years. Looks like a great model but I've always thought the proportions weren't right. Excited to do the build and will probably go right on to your 'corrected' version. Something looking into is reworking the axle mounts to lower the ride height... Is it just me or in some of the built 10248 photos around the web does it look like the model sits too tall by about a plate or so? Anyway, cheers Adrian! Edited March 24, 2017 by prototyp Quote
Irmscher_Vectra Posted September 23, 2017 Posted September 23, 2017 A really beautiful work!! looks better! Can be useful a one by one comparision with the original one to better appreciate your mods. Do you have the .lxf to share? Thanks!! Quote
BrickMonkeyMOCs Posted May 14, 2018 Author Posted May 14, 2018 Earlier this year I also revamped my F430 official set (8671) to bring it up to modern MOC standards. This involved adding opening doors, a trans panel for the engine cover, and replacing all stickered details (front bumper vents, headlights, dashboard, curved top edge on the front hood, etc.) with brick-built solutions. Other added details include new exhausts, a gear shift lever, fire extinguisher and water bottle (under front hood), and an improved spoiler. The picture below was shared on Flickr a while ago, but I've now also made LDraw instructions that can be used by anyone else also keen to make the same upgrade. LDraw File: [FREE DOWNLOAD] Quote
NKubate Posted June 22, 2018 Posted June 22, 2018 I agree that the F40 is a great set with lots of cool details and building techniques, but also I felt that the proportions needed some work. Even though yours is a step in the right direction, I still wasn't sure about the result. So I did my own version which probably required a lot more work moving the whole interior and roof section backward and increasing the overhang at the rear. This is the result: 10248 Ferrari F40 mod by Nathanael Kuipers, on Flickr 10248 Ferrari F40 mod by Nathanael Kuipers, on Flickr 10248 Ferrari F40 mod by Nathanael Kuipers, on Flickr Quote

Definitely a lot more work involved than the simple 1-stud extension on my version, but the increased space in the interior and on the rear overhang really pays off. I like the added 1x1 round tiles on the tail-lights too. If I may be picky for a moment, one small but easy improvement you've missed is swapping out those blue Technic pins in the headlights for black ones. Quote
Alter_Schwede Posted March 22, 2019 Posted March 22, 2019 @NKubate Is there a LDraw file to your F40 mod? I would really like to try it out. Quote

Alter_Schwede Posted March 25, 2019 Posted March 25, 2019 OK. Nevertheless, many thanks for your cool incentive. I have to find out for myself Quote
Dragunov2 Posted November 12, 2020 Posted November 12, 2020 (edited) Mod completed, the car is longer now.... But a dozen of original pieces left Thanks to @NKubate Edited November 12, 2020 by Dragunov2 Quote
NKubate Posted November 19, 2020 Posted November 19, 2020 Thanks for sharing your pictures and experience @Dragunov2 Perhaps I should share the link to the instructions (which have been prepared by Theo van Vroenhoven) in case others might be interested too to build the model with these modifications.
