Nabii Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 even if there competitor do copy them, who buys the cheap imitation lego anyway? *wacko* You're right not LEGO fans (like you find on this forum). But Grandparents, parents, siblings who don't know the difference and they want to buy you a present. But LEGO's competitors are not just clone brands, they are ALL toy companies. How long do you think it takes for a toy company in Hong Kong, Taiwan or wherever to change the colour of the plastic in their moulds and ship to the western markets? Two to three months tops. How many 'big truck' toys do you think might have been changed in colour scheme just because competitors saw LEGO's future plans? (And of course everyone knows which site to come to for leaks!) Want proof? Go to your local toy shop and see how many really cheap space toys are using a white and orange colour scheme! LEGO is successful so it is copied. A grandparent will remember little Johnny wanted an 'Agent' toy, they might remember him showing them a picture - if all the big trucks and cars in the shop are in the same colour scheme and have 'Agents' printed on them don't you think some of them will become confused and that this will hit the bottom line of the company you claim to support? 'Freedom of the brick' is a joke that only hurts TLG. Respect the brick and only post officially released pictures. (Sorry Hollisbrick, my rant is a general one, you just triggered it.) Cheers, Mark. I'm not at all convinced that these leaked photos "hurt TLC." It takes a long, long time to design, manufacture, market, and ship a toy product line. Is Megabloks hanging out on EB, looking for leaked photos of upcoming Lego products so they can swoop in and beat Lego to market with a knock-off? They'd have to be able to pull that off within 2-3 months, and I just don't think that's possible. TLC has to publish retailer catalogs to their retail partners so they're aware of their upcoming products. But TLC has to get with the times. With the widespread use of cell phone cameras, leaked pictures of those catalogs are going to show up online within a few days. That's the reality. Using ham-handed tactics to force websites to take down the leaked photos just creates bad blood with their fanbase. There is obviously a LOT of interest in seeing what Lego's upcoming products are. Why not use that interest to their advantage?? Give us sneak peaks. Show us the prototypes in an official press release. Give us some insights into what the product development life cycle is like. That generates interest and gets fans talking in a positive way. That seems like a much better way to cultivate relationships with fans, rather than threatening to release the lawyers. TLC has such a bizarre and backwards approach to their fans. We are not the enemy!! Stop treating us like we're the problem!! Quote
Starwars4J Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 'Freedom of the brick' is a joke that only hurts TLG. Respect the brick and only post officially released pictures. Thank god that's not our policy around here then X-D Respecting the brick isn't the same as loving it, apparently. And freedom of the brick is, thankfully, in LEGO's best interest, as well as our own. LEGO's largest concern isn't the Chinese rip-offs, it's Megablocks. And our feedback gives them time to change and make better their products before they're released, for better sales. What better feedback than this? Leaked pics ON! Edit: And nah, the only joke is 'Respect the Brick'. How can you respect something if you don't think and care about it? Quote

Anyway, if TLC didn't want anyone to see them, then they'd tell us, which they did, so no damage done. As you said before, a matter of timing, not source, so leaked pics aren't really a problem from my view. Leaked Pics.........................ON! Batbrick Away! >:-) Quote
Piranha Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 (edited) Is Megabloks hanging out on EB, looking for leaked photos of upcoming Lego products so they can swoop in and beat Lego to market with a knock-off? Drat they found me out, I knew being a megabloks spy would be dangerous but oh well...... :-P X-D That would be very possible and makes me think that some among us are really spies...... *looks around , to see if anyone is doing anything suspicious* :-D The pics are back up, but still looks very crappy like before :-X p Edited January 24, 2008 by Piranha Quote
xwingyoda Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 I was watching those pics again for the sweet sharks and I havene't noticed the "batteries included" on box of mission 6: do you guys know whats it for ? Anyhow, I am in a ranting mood after TLC's decision not to do sets from Temple of Doom so I shall continue here: what the hell is that theme ?? Its ugly (worse than MM sets, that says a lot) and way to violent for a non license !! Shame on TLC !! Will only buy a few parts off BL and end of story, the rest doesn't deserve much more attention. *yoda* Quote

I think I will merely purchase the smaller set as I like to have at least one set from most themes! *Runs off into a forest as an angry mob chases him* Quote
zero1312 Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 ...At least we get some interesting new parts, and the minifigures look fair, so that can only be a good thing! Every line is at least good enough for that partycular thing: MOCing!! ;-) ;-) Quote

Batbrick Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 Even I, who has been positive about it so far, will admit its an ugly theme and worse than MM. However, it contains some great molds and parts, so I will buy some sets and be happy with that, and as you say, we can always mod them :-) Batbrick Away! >:-) Quote
Brainbox Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 This pic of the inside of the Mobile HQ seems to have cropped up, apparantly from Toy Fair: http://www.flickr.com/photos/joeljohnson/2271596875/ Sorry, I couldn't get the pic in. Still, look at that laptop *wub* Quote

Still, look at that laptop *wub* That hairpiece is one of three things: Something we've seen before in a different color *wub* , Mutt William's hair from Indy 4, or a new hairpiece! I love that laptop! Now I can finally put my Sam Fisher minifig(personal creation) to use with something to hack! :'-) Quote

I was admiring the hairpiece as well. I think it might be a new mold. Certainly, nothing we've seen before immediately springs to mind. Looking at the box-art pics we've already seen, there look to be quite a few new hair molds. In fact, there seem to be a lot this year in general, both hair and hats. Quote
maiq the liar Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 (edited) I like it, it reminds me of MI7 from the james bond series, which makes me think of goldeneye (the movie and the N64 game), and playing goldeneye was one of my favorite things to do when i was little... It also reminds me of the agency from Crackdown. Edited February 17, 2008 by maiq the liar Quote
Brainbox Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 There're a few pics of Agents from Toy Fair that have appeared here. I quite like it. Some of the stickers are a little garish, but I can always just leave them off. The car looks quite nice, and appears to be silver. The large(ish) plane looks pretty decent too. In fact, they all look nice in their own way. Here's hoping for even more pics. Quote

I agree, the construction is much better than previous pics showed, I'll definitely get atleast three sets of this theme. A few problems, but overall I'd say I certainly underestimated this line. Asuka Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 A dream in dark blue and siver, with some pretty cool features and a lot of playability.... Oh, and I hoped so much that this line would turn out crappy.... poor wallet of mine. :-P - The battery from the Agents HQ-truck seems to be used for a "holo-projector". Well, actually a light, which will show pics from the printed trans-clear panels on the blank briefing wall. pic Quote

Brainbox Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 A few problems, but overall I'd say I certainly underestimated this line. And of course with this being Lego, those problems can easily (well, that depends) be smoothed out. Sigh, I sense I'll be hard pushed to find money and shelf space this year... Quote

I can also see the Mutt Williams hairpiece in two new colours - dark orange and black, but what surprises me the most is the female hairpiece. I wouldn't have thought Lego would construct a new ponytail piece (especially one so long) for a secondary line like this rather than just reuse the much more versatile existing one. I'm wondering if it's going to show up in one of the liscenced lines, perhaps a new Padme figure in the remaining Clone Wars sets? Edited February 18, 2008 by Nonpoint Fan Quote

xenologer Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 New ponytail hairpiece?? CUUUUTE! I'll have to buy at least one of these sets now. Tho im not too wild about the ... cartoony feel to some of the designs... Maybe if they got rid of all the transneon colored pieces in favor of something more subdued it'd help the feel. Quote
Batbrick Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 Is that fire looking hairpiece new as well? Its in the pic Nonpoint fan posted. Batbrick Away! >:-) Quote
