1980-Something-Space-Guy Posted August 8, 2011 Posted August 8, 2011 My best deal was on internet a couple of years ago. I found a big lot of lego on www.blocket.se (a smaller version of ebay here in Sweden) and saw 3739 http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?S=3739-1 on one picture. I asked the seller how much it costed and he told me he wanted 250 kr (~25 euro) for it. I picked it up and found it complete and with box and instructions! de Gothia !!!!!!! How lucky!!!!! Quote
Lutin Posted August 8, 2011 Posted August 8, 2011 I got 6Kg of unsorted Lego pieces for 25€ shipment included. among Jack Stone's set and a very few megablock there was also all the pieces to build this: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?S=10019-1 Considering the price of it even without instructions and box, I think I made by best deal ever this day. Unless you count freebies as a deal, because so far I got: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?S=4479-1 http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?S=6212-1 http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?S=7106-1 http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?S=7139-1 http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?S=7146-1 http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?S=7150-1 http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?S=7190-1 http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?S=7115-1 http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?S=7141-1 http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?S=7151-1 http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?S=7171-1 http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?S=4478-1 http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?S=7143-1 http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?S=7153-1 http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?S=7674-1 http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?S=7675-1 http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?S=7676-1 Yes all of them for free given by peoples who didn't care about Lego anymore! I calculated the value of it is at least 450€. Some times the dark age is a good thing, and I don't regret to let everyone know that I'm an AFOL. Quote
The Blue Brick Posted August 9, 2011 Posted August 9, 2011 I was lucky when i was looking at my local thrift store and found a sealed in box black seas barracuda and barley played with main street. There were no prices on them so i asked an old elderly woman that was working how much these were. She looked at them and said 10 dollars for the both of them because the were covered in dust. I almost cried since these are definately two of my favorite sets in my collection now. Also what are the chances . I also picked up a lego bucket filled with minifigs and couple of broken sets for a dollar. Best deal of my life!!!!!!!!! Quote
brickmack Posted August 9, 2011 Posted August 9, 2011 I never seem to find any REALLY good stuff in stores, but around 2 years ago at a garage sale I found (For 5 US dollars) 4477: T-16 Skyhopper 4485 Sebulba's Podracer & Anakin's Podracer 4488 Millennium Falcon 4489 AT-AT 4490 Republic Gunship 4491 MTT 7103 Jedi Duel The majority of 7159 Star Wars Bucket 7203 Jedi Defense I 7311 Red Planet Cruiser 7312 T-3 Trike And at least 200 other parts that I couldn't identify any sets from (Plus megabloks and some other crap....) 1980-Something-Space-Guy Posted August 9, 2011 Posted August 9, 2011 Seeing all these stories makes me wonder: how could this thread ever become inactive? Surely most members here have stories about great bargains. Quote
Hoboman Posted August 10, 2011 Posted August 10, 2011 About 30 pounds of mixed Lego just handed to me because the person knew my son and I were playing with Lego. They have no idea how much fun he had just looking through the stuff. Quote
LEGO Guy Bri Posted August 10, 2011 Posted August 10, 2011 I've had plenty of great deals through eBay but, I suppose my best was a friend gave me a storage bin filled with his and his brothers collection of Lego. Mostly Star Wars sets, I found the old Jango Fett and a few other minifigs that held some value. Quote
1980-Something-Space-Guy Posted August 10, 2011 Posted August 10, 2011 (edited) Sometimes I can't believe what people give away! It makes me wish I had taken out my old (non-Lego) toys in a garage sale But we don't do that here... I just remembered I had another stroke of luck with the first Spider-Man sets. I went to the main store that sells Lego here (unfortunately there are no Lego stores here ), and, quite oddly actually, there were a lot of those sets on sale. You would not believe the sets that go on sale here... Anyways, I found like 30 copies of 4850 - Spidey's First Chase and one or two copies of 4852 - The Final Showdown. 4850 was on an amazing discount, probably close to 50%, a complete bargain . I wanted to get that minifigure so badly . As for 4852, it was of course my dream Spider-Man set. The box was in bad conditions, but the discount was huge, around 50% too. And so, I had these two sets in display inside my closet, until I ran out of space and had to put them inside a box . Edited August 10, 2011 by johnnyvgoode Quote
mmMatt Posted August 11, 2011 Posted August 11, 2011 A few weeks ago I found a 30132 Jack Sparrow promo at TRU for a penny. Quote
Quichybo Posted August 11, 2011 Posted August 11, 2011 The Atlantis Giant Deep Sea Scorpion (8076) for 2,90 € and the Atlantis Giant Shark (8058) for 3,90 € and a Treasure Island (6241) for 5 €. It was a sale at a German drugstore (unusual that they have LEGO at all). The prices were that ridiculous I had to ask if they were serious about this. Quote
Follows Closely Posted August 11, 2011 Posted August 11, 2011 I was given 130 pounds of blocks from a stranger that replied to my wanted post on Craigslist. I have yet to beat that. Quote
zyrex Posted August 11, 2011 Posted August 11, 2011 I got the 7498 (police headquarters) at a supermarket in Denmark for $38, which is down from $230. Great deal, last one they had. And a couple of weeks later I got the 8285 (tow truck) for the same $38, slightly used but still in good shape. Very happy with these deals. Quote
Karto Posted August 11, 2011 Posted August 11, 2011 I've got a MISB Technic 8868 Air Tech Claw Rig from 1992 for 20€ a few days ago at a flea market. The seller told me that it was probably worth 50, but he was happy to sell it for 20. I didn't say anything besides 'thanks' Quote
22kane Posted August 14, 2011 Posted August 14, 2011 I've always been able to find a good deal here and there. The best would have to be the hobby shop up the road from where I live, they sell the minifigure series at $2 a pack. So with the countless amount of minifigures I have bought I would say I made out pretty well. Quote
wokajablocka Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 About 30 pounds of mixed Lego just handed to me because the person knew my son and I were playing with Lego. They have no idea how much fun he had just looking through the stuff. Now I know where you get all those elements to make those MOC's My best deal would have to be the torso off Boba fett with printed arms from cloud city 10123 for $10.50 including shipping off eBay. The fig came with black head, helmet and rocket and sand green legs. Just need to find the printed legs and I will have a $150 fig. Quote
Fireburner5000 Posted August 21, 2011 Posted August 21, 2011 The best deal i've ever found in a store is 50% of the Kingdoms Outpost Attack (is that the name?) at Barnes and Noble. Quote
Captain Nemo Posted September 22, 2012 Posted September 22, 2012 Hello everyone! So this morning I got a huge deal on a Lego set, 70% off the Earth Defense HQ set from the Alien Conquest theme--yay! (From B&N, at a 50% off table and a 20% off coupon) So anyways, it soon got me thinking, what was the best deal you've ever gotten on a Lego set? Did you use coupons, VIP points, blowout sales, or even blind luck? What discount made you go WOW?!!! ~Nemo Quote
LEGO Historian Posted September 22, 2012 Posted September 22, 2012 People hate this story... and for good reason.... 1980-83.... 10 Yellow Castles $20 each. 10 6390 Main Streets $20 each 34 760 London Bus Sets $7 each 40 455 Lear Jet Sets $2 each All MISB.... Quote

Modulex Guy Posted September 22, 2012 Posted September 22, 2012 Best deal I have ever gotten was probably my UCS Millenium Falcon MISB for 250$ Or it could be my LEGO Wooden firetruck for 70$... I also scored big time on a massive Modulex collection a while back for... well, lets just say it was a darn good deal. Quote

Brickus Posted September 22, 2012 Posted September 22, 2012 Recently, where I got the Vampyre Castle (RRP AU$150) set for AU$44+$8 (postage). I couldn't have been happier. Quote
Darkdragon Posted September 22, 2012 Posted September 22, 2012 Overflowing (lid wouldn't go on) with Fabuland parts, ended up finding 4 Fabluland figs in it and all but one in great condition. $5 for the whole thing. I still use the box for parts too. Quote
Laura Beinbrech Posted September 22, 2012 Posted September 22, 2012 While not as spectacular as some here, I've had a few good finds fairly recently.... The first of the two most stand-out ones was as Brick Fair 2010. There was this one vendor that was selling a "build your own minifig" thing (sort of like LEGO Store's minifig bar) for $3 each (hat/hair, legs, torso and head), and I found an old brown classic pirates tricorn hat, one of the original Imperial Soldiers torsos (classic bluecoats), the Adventurer's Miss Gail Storm's head and a Johnny Thunder torso, which elicited a loud "WOOOT!" from me. The second, more recent one was finding a Typhoon Sub from the Atlantis theme and another set for about half the original price at the Great Baltimore Computer Fest and Hamboree in March of this year... ShaydDeGrai Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 The deal that jumps readily to mind to me was the UCS Yoda set (7194). A local KB Toys was closing and they had three of these guys for 10 USD each, so I bought them all. That worked out to be a bit less than a penny a piece with lots of sand yellow/tan and sand green bricks. The first runner up would have to be the technic set 8466 4x4 Off-Roader for 12 USD. I spotted it on-line, figured it was a mistake but ordered it anyway to see what would happen. It turns out it was a mistake (they'd put the decimal in the wrong place) it was supposed to be 120USD and it had taken them several hours to notice and correct the problem. I got a call from a customer service rep explaining the error. I was expecting them to ask if I still wanted the kit at $120 but, instead, she very politely said it was their mistake and they'd honor the price and she hoped I'd both enjoy the kit and do business with them again in the future. I did both. Quote
