Beck Posted December 15, 2016 Posted December 15, 2016 (edited) Hello Everyone! I believe this is my first post in the town forum. I normally build trains and technic vehicles, however I decided to build a minifig scale vehicle. My quick scaling calculations revealed that the minifig scale trucks should be about 7.2 studs wide. I decided that 7 studs would suffice. Here is my reference vehicle. I eliminated the water cannon on top because I thought it looked to bulky and the white bar behind the cabin because I just didn't like the look of it. Apart from the aforementioned details, I believe I have accurately modeled the vehicle. What do you think I did correctly? What could I have done better? Thanks for reading! Only Sinner Posted December 16, 2016 Posted December 16, 2016 This is really good. I especially like the arial lights and the side steps. Quote
King Aragorn Posted December 17, 2016 Posted December 17, 2016 Huge and well done The big wheels are a clever idea Quote
ER0L Posted December 18, 2016 Posted December 18, 2016 Great to see a new Town vehicle builder on EB - there aren't that many of them around these days. You did a very nice job in my opinion - I especially like the switch between 6w and 7w behind the cab and the different rims between front and rear axle - those are the details which make such rather small models more realistic. Also the frontend is very well done - there's quite a resemblance, no doubt it's a MAN. My only point would be the "missing" windscreen - but I can see why you've done it like this. Since I'm always interested in this subject: Could you tell something about your premises regarding width, and are your trains 8w then? Quote

Yes the windshield is something that annoys me, however, I enjoy the realistic proportions more. Trains; Yes I build them in 8 wide. Photos I started building trains in 7 wide but then realized that 8 wide was the most realistic, so I changed my building accordingly. Part of me is annoyed that 8 wide train builders make ISOs 6 wide because if you scale your models correctly they should actually be 7 wide. Since 7 wide is also the width of trucks, the container has no overlap over the truck. I will be posting another 7 wide truck moc very soon. Quote

Thanks for the info, you train builders seem to be much more aware of such things than we Town guys. However, those are more or less my own thoughts about the subject, my vehicles probably being a bit larger than yours (I refer to it as "Larger City Scale"): passenger cars mainly 6w, trucks mainly 7w, ISOs 7x17 studs (7x35 respectively), trains 8-9w (a 9w loco already existing). Looking forward to your next 7w truck! Edited December 18, 2016 by ER0L Quote
