In the Swamplands of Nocturnus... WyvernWelpSwamp

31347331680_74612595d5_c.jpg

Anzar and his band approached the swamp along the eastern edge.  The once great fortress of his uncle now lies in ruin.  “Is this the fate of Dragon Keep?” he wondered.  The proud guarded manor of Breggan could now be summed up as nothing short of broken.  Nearly all of the ramparts and walls had crumbled.  The gatehouse appeared frail and likely to collapse at any moment.  The only structure that resembled anything of its former glory was the east tower.  Anzar looked up to see three wyvern welps circling the tower.  Again the thought of “trap” leapt forward into his mind.

Anzar: “This is all that’s left of Wyvern Hall?”

Erissa knew this wasn’t a question.  She didn’t answer, instead she took his hand as they approached the tower.

Breggan was standing at the base of the tower.  He called to Anzar with a strong and loud bravado.

Breggan: “Nephew! You’ve come!”

Anzar: “Yes uncle, but with much apprehension.”

Breggan could already sense the apprehension before his nephew even spoke, but Breggan knew Anzar was Historica’s best hope to spread the news. Breggan spotted Anzar staring at one of his wyvern welps.

Breggan: “If you’ve come for a welp, you can have one, but only after you do something for me!”

Anzar’s stomach immediately began to turn.  Was the trap about to be sprung?  He looked at his uncle’s face, but he didn’t see deceit or anger, only concern, and maybe a glimmer of hope.

Anzar: “What would you ask of me uncle?”

Breggan: “That you seek the only way to unite Historica against Raavage!”

Erissa and Anzar exchanged glances as Breggan puffed his chest.  He continued in a strong tone.

Breggan: “Raavage has you all chasing your tails!  Searching for an artifact, fighting each other, all the while he has been amassing a living coalition behind your backs!  You think only the Drow and Hand of Corruption are in his service?”

Anzar squinted as he tried to read his uncle’s face.  Nothing but the truth beamed from his face.

Anzar: “Uncle?

Breggan: “The Drow incursion in the West, the High Council and Ulandus in the South… the Algus in the North… these civil wars have distracted you from Raavage’s true purpose.  To unite the enemies of all the guilds to take this land!”

Anzar was aghast by his uncle’s declaration, and yet he could feel it to be true.  The Algus, the Drow and their plague in Avalonian, the uprisings in the South.  If Raavage had united them all he wouldn’t need an ancient power to conquer Historica.  Anzar’s thoughts leapt back to his uncle’s request that he unite Historica.

Anzar: “If what you say is true uncle, how can I unite the guilds against him?”

Breggan: “Gather your friends of influence within each guild and tell them the truth!  You, m’boy, have a connection to each leader within each beleaguered guild.  Bring them together and unite them!”

How could Anzar expect to unite the guilds?  He wasn’t even a Lord, a certainly not able to speak for all guilds.

Anzar: “Uncle, I have no power to unite the guilds.”

Breggan: “That is where you are wrong!  Look at the company you keep!  A princess in the Chorian Clan and the greatest General in Avalonian Historia, Trian Burress!”

Trian?  This shell of a man necromanced by Raavage’s witch?  “How could he speak for Avalonia,” wondered Anzar.  And what of Kaliphlin?  The Desert King vowed to topple Raavage, but few had answer his call or offered aid.

Anzar: “Uncle I-“

Breggan: “No Anzar, you listen to me, I am not done.  I do not need you to unite the guilds, I simply need you to gather your friends to hear the truth… the heir to Cedrica has been found!  The true King of Historica.  That is who will unite the guilds!”

Anzar could not keep his mouth closed at the revelation.  The heir to Cedrica?  If this was true, perhaps there was hope.

Breggan: “I have found an Elven Queen who claims she can restore Sir Burress to health.  Get your friend Dugal from Kaliphlin and your… friend… Erissa to meet me at the Beggar’s Inn in Avalonia in two weeks time and all will be revealed!  You bring them to Beggar’s Inn, and the welp is yours”

Erissa and Anzar looked at each other.  If the heir had been found, they couldn’t hope to pass up this opportunity.  Anzar briefly wondered again if this was a trap, but his friends were hardly worth the trouble if Raavage had indeed united the enemies of Historica together.

Anzar: “We will meet you there Uncle.”

Anzar pushed Burress to the base of the tower steps.  He looked up at his uncle to gage his reaction.  He senses nothing but relief.  Anzar would need to seek his old friend Dugal in Kaliphlin.  Dugal had no path to any throne, yet he was respected by all of Kaliphlin, including the Desert King.  To bring in the South, they would need him.  Anzar looked back at Erissa.

Anzar: “You seek out your uncle and warn him the Algus may be allied with Raavage.  Meet us back at the Beggar’s Inn in two weeks time.  I must go ostrich jousting!”

I don't know what im more excited about, the the story or this build. It has a unique beauty to it in a nocturnian way. But to be so detailed and maintan such a large build is what really blows my mind.

This is awesome.  I love the ruined fortress and the swamp.  The trees are nicely done and the landscaping has a very evil feel to it.  The wyverns are neat and the story is very well written.  The colors scheme overall flows very well throughout the build.  Overall nicely done.

awesome! very well written, intriguing story! as for the build, I love all the details as well as the [Nocturnian] landscape and the colour palette - you got me really intrigued!

The build alone is very impressive. I really like the color usage here...and as far as the story goes, it looks like we are all up the creek this time! Can't wait for more!

Pretty fantastic MOC!  I really like the way you did the two towers out front, with the crumbling stone revealing the skeleton woodwork!  The windows also look great, and impressive landscape!

Typical Z awesomeness here  Having the landscape be predominantly RB gives such a unique feel and atmosphere to the scene. Tremendous architecture on the tower and fortress themselves, and excellent color use.

The wooden sections incorporated are tremendous, especially the manor looking part in the middle which looks to have a wonderful wooden walkway/porch around it  Stunning all around :sweet:

Do you have a link to the album or something?  I'd love to see larger versions of these pics.  I really love the stone work--it's not too overdone but has enough detail to really pop.  Awesome!

This is incredible. These photos had my eyes very busy, so many details to observe! The immensely ruined appearance of the gatehouse I especially love. The skeletal wood keeping it all together really makes the thing look like it has just survived a siege or has been there many many years.

Excellent scene, Z!

There are so many details to take in!  The foliage is beautifully done and very Nocturnian!  The lime swamp adds a nice visual contrast to the dark foliage and the grey stone and brown timbers of the structures.  Nice stonework on the tower, and the timber-frame repairs are great as well!  The hoardings and spiked black roof are stunning!  One critique I have is that there seem to be some vast areas of flat reddish-brown where the regularity of studs really shows unnaturally.  Maybe some elevation change or low bracken or other foliage would help?  The scene is still visually amazing and well-composed!

The story is shaping up nicely with much to look forward to.

Thanks for all the feedback.

Thanks for the feedback.  In real life there was some minor changes in elevation, but I think it is overmatched here in the photos.  The size of this build may not be obvious- but it was massive!

I did notice that there were slight elevation changes that were dwarfed since this build is massive.  My critique was more aimed towards breaking up the expanses of studs, like with the inclusion of wedge plates for elevation change.  Do note that this is a very small critique for a very amazing build!  Small details tend to get lost in massive builds, so I think it is fine to leave the studs here.

This immense and hugely detailed build is just insane! *oh2* I love your unique approach to the crumbling part of the keep, which is held together by the skeleton on the inside (and sheer luck, probably). The whole mansion in the lake setting is very cool as well!
