Anyone thinks the BrickHeadz are superflous?

We already have mini-figs, constraction figures and mini-dolls, do we really need more ''character'' builds?

Heck I don't think Megabloksbrandscontruxwtf has done particularly well with their line of similar character builds. I think they were shelf warmers.

Not really. The BrickHeadz fill a very different niche than any of those others, as standardized static figurines (that are buildable, to boot). Constraction figures are the closest things to what the BrickHeadz represent, but are not necessarily a good fit for all themes (for instance, more realistically proportioned Ninjago figures would be bizarre given that the characters have really only been represented in the more stylized minifigure forms) and are substantially different from the BrickHeadz in both form and building experience.

I don't think the BrickHeadz are superfluous, but I doubt they will sell very well. As noted, MEGA has been selling* similar builds for awhile, also based off of popular licenses such as Star Trek.

*more like hasn't been selling. As Faefrost said, they've been shelfwarmers.

My guess is that they will sell well to speculators, die-hard fans of the licensed IP, new parts enthusiasts who don't want to wait for Bricklink, curious builders who will buy one or two (but not much beyond that), and eventually, buyers like me who like to gobble up sets on clearance.

There is also a new "friends" style animal theme coming. So it could be any number of things.

I hope it's Fabuland!

From the one picture that leaked out it looks more like a "Pets" type thing. More akin to that Disney Pets line.

Besides we already got Fabuland 2. It was called Legend of Chima. It was all about what happens when all the wolf and lion people figure out they can eat the fluffy bunny people, then get addicted to narcotics. It's kinda like the Fabuland version of that final scene from the Charlton Heston Planet of the Apes.

Yeah, what leaked picture?

Btw, that explanation of Legend of Chima is hilarious, I'm laughing my megablocks off

I really like the Kubros.

Like a lot of people, I'm guessing BrickHeadz. That's a theme that we know will be a March release (based on a teaser in the manuals of the SDCC BrickHeadz), so an early release for VIPs in February would make sense. And it's the only spring release we know of that could qualify as a new, exclusive theme.

Perhaps that new educational theme is meant, Boost?

I doubt it, since that comes out in August. Most early releases for VIPs are a month or so ahead of the actual release date, not a full half a year.

But why they didn't show the BrickHeadzs in the catalog?

I mean we already saw them.... I don't get all the mystery

The BrickHeadz we're getting this year may not be the same as the SDCC ones. Also, if it is the "New exclusive LEGO theme" teased on the February calendar, it'd make sense for them not to show up in the brand catalogs, since unlike Shop@Home catalogs, those don't show exclusives.
