jdm44 Posted December 31, 2016 Posted December 31, 2016 Here's a list of all the sets from 2016 http://brickset.com/sets/theme-Star-Wars/year-2016. Feel free to list as many sets as you would like with or without a short description of why you like the sets. Here's my list: #7 Encounter on Jakku: I wasn't expecting to like this set as much as I do. It looks good with Finn, Unkar's Thug, Unkar's Brute, Rey's Speeder and a few FO Stormtroopers. The Luggabeast is really cool too. #6 Krennic's Imperial Shuttle: This is a great build with great minifigures. My only strike against it is that I'm not the biggest fan of the vehicle in universe. It reminds me of the Luxor hotel in Las Vegas. #5 Vader's TIE Advanced vs. A-wing Starfighter: I mainly got this set for Vader's TIE but I ended up really liking the A-wing. The new design blows the 2013 version out of the water. I'm excited to get the 2017 OT A-wing to display with this one. #4 Rebel U-wing Fighter: This is my favorite new vehicle from RO and LEGO did a great job of recreating it. The minifigures and the build are top notch. #3 Resistance Troop Transporter: This set was a huge surprise. I had more fun building this set than any other LEGO set that I've built so far. The build is really solid and I like how the top opens to quickly pick up and deploy troops. I think this set along with last years FO Transporter would provide endless playing for kids. #2 AT-ST Walker: I had been excited for this set for a long time because it was rumored before any of the RO sets were leaked. I couldn't be more pleased with how the AT-ST turned out. It's one of the best looking non-UCS sets in my collection. #1 Clone Turbo Tank: This is my first CTT so I don't care that it's smaller than the previous versions. I love everything about this set. Luminara, Quinlan Vos and Commander Gree are all top notch minifigures and the tank itself is amazing. It's a really solid build that rolls around with a bunch of troops and it looks great on display. I plan on putting some seating for more troops where the AT-RT is supposed to go. Quote
Goonmo Posted December 31, 2016 Posted December 31, 2016 5. 75135: Obi-Wan's Jedi Starfighter This was a long, overdue set. I was really excited about this set when it was announced and it met all expectations. My only issue is that the minor differences between this set and Anakin's Jedi Starfighter are subtle, but enough to bother me because I feel like they should be identical. Maybe they should have been released together in one set as they were in 7283 Ultimate Space Battle. The set also could've included some Buzz Droids to put it over the top but it doesn't take away from the set that they aren't included. 4. 75151: Clone Turbo Tank I am one of the few that really, really enjoys Revenge of the Sith. It was the first Star Wars movie I saw in theaters and as a kid I had most of the original movie line of sets from 2005-2006 including the original Clone Turbo Tank. Sadly, that set has been long dismantled and is in a large bucket of parts. The 2016 version, however, was able to remind me of the joy I had with those sets years ago. Gree, Luminara, the Clone Scout, and Vos are great figures, although the addition of a few more unnamed clones would not of hurt. I can't help but feel like the set is a bit empty with only four figures. Also, the spring-loaded shooters are not well placed. Other than those few things I really enjoyed this set. 3. 75140: Resistance Troop Transporter When I first saw this set I hated it, but I needed it for the figures so I got it on sale. It won me over as I built it. It might overuse stickers a bit, but the ship is large and chunky and feels like it was thrown together from scrap like the actual transporter is. I love the design of the engines and the guns on the end. I like that they put in a lever to open the cockpit. The inclusion of Leia and Ackbar are very nice, however it could've included maybe one more named character in order to place higher. 2.75155: Rebel U-Wing Fighter Fell in love with this set when the original pictures were leaked. I just enjoy the design of the ship and I think it fits right in with the other Rebel ships. The functionality works well and I think this set has the best use of hidden spring-loaded shooters so far. It comes with a good choice of figures as well. 1. 75136: Droid Escape As a kid I always wanted the original but never got it. This was the first 2016 set I picked up and I enjoyed every aspect of it. It comes with great figures at a great price point, an easy way to get Jawas as well as R2 and C-3P0. The build is fantastic and detailed like the model from the movie. The stickers actually add to the set as well, showing a viewport on the interior of the ship. So the Price, figures, and ship itself come together to make this the best set of 2016 for me. Quote
tom20arc Posted December 31, 2016 Posted December 31, 2016 #1 Clone Turbo Tank: Also pretty much the same reason as yours, missed out on previous versions when I was a kid and now I was finally able to get one :P #2 Captain Rex's AT-TE: The AT-TE is one of my favorite lego sets, love the additional changes made to the AT-TE #3 Rebel Combat Frigate: Great ship and awesome minifigures :-) #4 Tie Striker: I just love all tie starfighter builds, especially this one. #5 AT-ST: Really looking good #6 Hoth Attack: Just love hoth builds, bought 2 from this one and combined them. FishW Posted December 31, 2016 Posted December 31, 2016 Let me think of what sets I even bought. Here are the sets I bought in 2016 that came out in 2016(and Star Wars), at least those I remember. In no particular order. Resistance Trooper Pack: It has some great mini figures and it has a nice build. I felt the build was a little thin but since it is a battlepack I'll cut it some slack. This pack will become invaluable when future movies release. First Order Pack: Again Great set, while some criticized it as am army builder because it only had one stormtrooper, I enjoyed the diversity a lot. It gave me some unique minifigs without having to buy the big sets. Rebel Alliance Pack: a nice speeder and that Rodian trooper is excellent. Galactic Empire Pack: nice set with super usable minifigs, I like the command base but the detachable turret steals the show. My only thing is I wish the Shock Trooper had a pack or something I feel like he is a little incomplete, though I really like him. Tie Fighter Advanced Micro-fighter: my first micro fighter and I must say I really liked it! I plan on picking up more in the future for sure! Droid Escape Pod: I bought this mostly for the 3-po not gonna lie, but the build was impressive! Carbon Freezing Chamber: great set, I liked the carbon frozen Han and the Ugnaught were great new additions to my collection. Hoth Attack: I like the little gun the snowtrooper has and the droid is cool too. I like how you can fold up the base for the turret to change it up some. Battle of Takodana: bought it on sell, of course, and I'm glad I did! The minifigs are great I got my first and only Finn and Kylo Ren! A must for any collection. Plus the two stormies are a nice addition. At-St: one of my favorites. Decent figures and the set is awesome. As I bought it for 20% off which was crazy for a set that just came out; I'm super pleased with it! Probably one of my top sets for sure. Those were all the 2016 Are Wars sets I've gotten so far. My plan is to buy some of the larger sets on sale next year. I don't think I've bought Lego set that wasn't on sale for the better half of this year Quote
VaderFan2187 Posted January 1, 2017 Posted January 1, 2017 (edited) What, everyone likes the CTT? I know I don't #10: 75158 Rebel Combat Frigate: Yeah, I'd get it just for Ahsoka, who is plain awesome. The rest of the set is... decent I guess. Price is average too. #9: 75137 Carbon Freezing Chamber: Best of the 19.99 sets to me. Decent play features, good figures (especially Boba Fett and the Ugnaught), and tons of trans orange. Good value too. #8: 75121 Imperial Death Trooper: Not a huge CCBS guy, so he's further down. Still, imposing and detailed, what's not to like? #7: 75139 Battle on Takodana: Nice sand yellow bricks, some rare, and great figures. Price is a little off but on discount I love it. #6: 75149 Resistance X-wing Fighter: big swooshable ship, nice figures. Overpriced too, but only by a little. #5: 75150 Vader's TIE Advanced vs. A-wing: Two fun ships with good figures. Again, it is overpriced, but during sales it's a good set. #4: 75155 U-wing Fighter: Nice swooshable ship with good figures. Also, pretty good play features. Not overpriced this time #3: 75154 TIE Striker: Many may disagree, but I love this set. Looks good in both modes, wing angle change play feature is slick, other play features are okay. Also, phenomenal for army building. #2: 75156 Krennic's Imperial Shuttle: Absolutely amazing exterior, great minifigures, including the fantastic K-2SO figure. It's sleek, swooshable, and polished black. Only the interior could use a little improvement. #1: 75159 Death Star: Go on, hate away, but I don't have 10188 and so this is marvellous. Also, no price increase where I live. The set AND figures are fantastic, making this definitely a win in my book Edited February 28, 2017 by VaderFan2187 Quote
brickmasterben11 Posted January 1, 2017 Posted January 1, 2017 #1 Krennic's Shuttle- I loved the ship in Rogue One, and the minifigures and features are worth it. #2 Imperial Battle Pack- Great army builder, excellent figs. #3 Obi-Wan's Starfighter-Loved the ship itself, looks great alongside Anakin's. eliminator Posted January 1, 2017 Posted January 1, 2017 (edited) #1: AT-ST: Finally! #2 Advent Calendar: Best one yet. Great micro builds and minifigs #3 Droid Escape Pod: Best one yet, great minifigs Edited January 1, 2017 by eliminator Quote
Calanon Posted January 1, 2017 Posted January 1, 2017 #1 Krennic's Shuttle - I initially wasn't too keen on it, but I loved building it. Great minifig selection and looks amazing, especially in flight mode. #2 TIE Striker - What can I say? I'm a sucker for TIEs and this is no exception. Needs a bit of modding for me to be happy with, but ah well. It's really nice and has a good minifig selection. #3 Vader's Tie Advanced vs A-wing - As above, I'm a sucker for TIEs. Maybe a bit expensive, but I got it in America so it was cheaper for me. Honestly, if it came with Sabine's helmet and Tarkin was movie-style (grey uniform, newer design of code cylinders, no weird triangles on collar) it would be #2 #4 Combat assault (hovertank) - Honestly, I wanted this as soon as I saw it. There are a few downsides and it's the one I'm going to scrap and rebuild, but I still really like it as a set. A sergeant would have been nice though. Honorary mention: Galatic Empire Battlepack - SHOCKTROOPERS! If the two jumptroopers didn't have battle damage and the shocktrooper had dual-moulded legs (lower half being red) it would have been perfect. Quote
Deathstroke77 Posted January 2, 2017 Posted January 2, 2017 1) Krennic's Imperial Shuttle. It's magnificent. It's freaking huge, folds out nicely in both the wings and it's centre, and has a great selection of minifigures. Enjoyable build, too. 2) Takodana. I really like this set, despite its questionable price tag. The build was very fun, it has a nice array of play features and of course, the minifigs are fantastic. Kylo Ren, Finn, Maz and TR-8R in the same set is pretty awesome. 3) Carbon Freezing Chamber. I know many have mixed feelings about this set, but I LOVE it. It's more for display really, and I'm happy with that. A great, small representation of an iconic scene with great figures too (Boba is identical to the UCS one, minus the arm printing and face, which pleasantly surprised me). Quote

Ellisss_2 Posted January 2, 2017 Posted January 2, 2017 6. Battle on Scariff - This set looks good includes some decent minifigures, but does not justify the £54.99 price tag in my opinion. 5. Tie Striker - I like the look of the ship, it is very unique compared to other tie varients. I love the little touches of blue also. 4. Carbon Freezing Chamber - Awesome for the minifigures. Definitely the best way to obtain Boba Fett. The price is amazing at only £19.99. 3. Krennic's Imperial Shuttle - Great looking ship with a good deal of space inside. Nice inclusion of K-2SO 2. Rebel U-Wing - My favourite ship in Rogue One. TLG have captured the shape well, and included some play features. 1. Death Star - Depsite burning a hole in your wallet this is definitely a playset worthy of bearing the UCS tag, unlike the widely hated Assault on Hoth. This set provides excellent minifigures and play features. Quote

Gremer Posted January 2, 2017 Posted January 2, 2017 (edited) Only bought 5, so this is everything I have from this year. 6. Hoth Attack - It's not terrible, it's quite nice actually, but it doesn't feel very substantial. 5. Vader's TIE Advanced vs A-Wing - It's a really nice set, but with it being split between two ships, it doesn't feel like a $90 set. 4. Resistance Troop Transporter - It's a really nice ship and it would probably be 1 or 2 if I was a big fan of TFA. 3. Krennic's Shuttle - Look really good, and has more room than you would expect. 2. Obi-Wan's Jedi Starfighter - I love Eta-2s. 1. Clone Turbo Tank - I have the 2010 version, but I think this one is better. It's sturdier and more detailed with better minifigures. I do wish it could be a little bigger, but it's still really good. Honorable Mention: Assault on Hoth - Heresy, I know. Unlike everyone else, I don't actually hate this set. I don't think it's a great set, but I think it's decent, esecially for someone like me who has very few Hoth sets. I will agree that it's not really UCS though. It's an honorable mention because I don't have it yet. If I get and hate it, I might update this post. Edited January 2, 2017 by Gremer Quote

Do you mean to say you like the disjointed build, the stuck-on shooters everywhere, the logicless Tauntaun feeding pen, the ugly colorful back of the ion cannon, the tiny Wampa cave, the door with lots of exposed Technic pieces, the horrible, inaccurate lookout post, the miniscule command centre with bright red missiles stuck on, the merely recolored Snowspeeder, the Wedge Antilles with a generic face, the Toryn Farr with an inaccurate hairpiece, and the absence of Leia? Oh great, here's the Inquisition. Let's go one by one: Not a big fan of it but it makes sense, I don't like it and plan to fix it, tauntauns were kept in pens and it's a decent place to put it, not going to see it so don't care, I actually do like the small cave, not going to see the back so don't care, easily removable, I plan to get rid of the missiles and the size works for the figure selection, I actually do like the recolored Snowspeeder since it's consistent with my other one, not going to see him since he'll be in the Snowspeeder so it's not a big deal to me, it's not a big deal to me. The one I can agree with is the absence of Leia. It's really dumb to not have her, but it's not a dealbreaker. To be honest, I prefer to have named background characters (Toryn Farr, K-3PO) over named lead characters. The lead character will inevitably be remade, but it's not a guarantee for the background characters. Quote
VaderFan2187 Posted January 2, 2017 Posted January 2, 2017 (edited) Wasn't trying to slam you, sorry if I came across that way. But have you seen a review of it? Check out the ion cannon's back... Edited January 2, 2017 by VaderFan2187 Quote

Check out the ion cannon's back... I didn't think you were, I'm just tired of people trying to change my opinion on the set. The first sentence was also kinda meant to be a joke (heresy, Inquisition, get it?). Sorry if I came across as harsh. I've seen pretty much every review out there, including yours and Brickset's, which are two of the harshest I've seen, but I still like the set. I can absolutely see why it's received the hate and if I'd started collecting earlier I probably would hate it too. I don't have anything in the set (minus a DF.9 turret from Hoth Attack and the 2014 Snowspeeder, but I think those are good additions to AoH) and so it's good set for me. I've seen the back and I will agree it is hideous. However, since I will probably be displaying it facing forwards, I won't see it. I may still mod it to have the circular appearance on the back though. The back of the hangar, again, I won't be seeing so it's not a big deal. I will also agree that the set is not UCS, but that badge is really meaningless to me, so I don't really consider it. Quote

PaulPrime Posted January 2, 2017 Posted January 2, 2017 If i have to chose only one that would be the AT—ST walker. The Ghost microfighter including Hera was also extremely nice. Quote

DarthPotato Posted January 2, 2017 Posted January 2, 2017 5. Vader's TIE Advanced vs. A-Wing - Getting two ships in one set is great, and the TIE and A-Wing are done really well and pack a lot of parts into them despite being so small. The only part about the set that off sets me is the price. I feel like two ships being in the same set was just an excuse to up the price from what a set of that size actually would have been. At that price, at least another minifigure would have been good. But it's still a beautifully designed set, and I'm willing to overlook the price a bit and put it at number 5. 4. Clone Turbo Tank - It feels strange to put this so high up on the list since I didn't like it when I first saw it. But after buying it and building it, I really like its compact size. I've never really been bothered when LEGO downsizes vehicles compared to their previous iterations. Despite this being the smallest Turbo Tank yet, I think it's the best looking on the exterior. The only real problem I have with it is that it needs room to carry troops in the middle, but I understand that that section had to be dedicated to technic parts. Getting Luminara and Quinlan Vos with non Clone Wars prints was also great. 3. Resistance X-Wing Fighter - Even though it's just a recolor of Poe's X-Wing, it's still a great build. And I think the grey and blue works a bit better than the black and orange. It's just a really good looking set from any angle. 2. Rebel U-Wing Fighter - It's a large, well designed ship, it's got good play features, and it has lots of great minifigures. The wingspan with the wings out is really impressive, and I also like how the spring loaded shooters were integrated in. Getting the two main characters of Rogue One (Jyn and Cassian) and getting several other figures also makes it pretty much a necessity for people collecting Rogue One sets. 1. Krennic's Imperial Shuttle - Like many other people, I love this set. It's pretty much a good version of Kylo Ren's Command Shuttle. The interior space in it took me by surprise (in a good way), because I was only expecting the top cockpit to be accessible. The fact that you can seat Krennic and his Death Troopers is great. And like the U-Wing, Krennic's Shuttle has a really impressive wingspan when the wings are folded out. The minifigure selection in this set is also fantastic, and I like that it's split 50/50 with Rebels and Imperials. I don't think 2016 was the best year for LEGO Star Wars, but it was still pretty solid overall. I think the disappointments (like peoples' problems with the UCS sets) overshadowed some of the really good stuff we got. Overall, I think the Rogue One sets really redeemed 2016 and made it a good year for the Star Wars theme. All five of them look good, have great minifigures, and are decently priced (the TIE Striker might be about $10 too much, but it's close enough). Quote

Anakin's Jedi Interceptor is much better imo. Doesn't have all the little bugs that annoy me about Obi-Wan's. R2 sits lower in the droid socket, which is more accurate and you don't see his blank back There is storage for Anakin's lightsaber There are controls in the ship. How is that not a "given"?? I personally prefer the laser cannons on Anakin's Interceptor. Unfortunately they don't match up with each other. Edited January 2, 2017 by VaderFan2187 Quote
