I just thought the white color was even more booring ;-) but ill se what i can get out of the colors :)

Is there any other changes you would suggest Mr Tiber?

And if anyone have the background of the forums and will give it to me ill try to get it to look good :)

Too bad all my ships are kinda.... dismantled.. :'-( But soon you shall see a new sail on the horizon!!

There's just one thing about the colour of the table.

It seems a bit hard for the eyes and perhaps a bit boring too. I think the background colour of a pirate forum post would do fine.

I'd love to see a big list of ships here.

I hope you're not suggesting that the quick example I put up is the actual table? I thought I made it clear enough that this thread is just for getting data off everyone and that's just there to show what we'd like to accomplish, Phes will be involved in the format and presentation of the official table.

Col Whipstick, did i get you right in that you was asking for us to post the vital data on our mocs here in this topic? And if i sent my Valkyrie to to and call it a frigate, would it be changed to something else of you dont agree with me (or any other member posting their ships here) I see that i have to go home this weekend and do some measurements ;-)

btw. where do we measure how wide our ship is? at the hull or at the yards? my yards are longer than my hull is wide i think.

Yes Tordenskjold I did mean that you should post your stats here in this forum because Mr. Phes will be taking data from here for the table when he sorts it out. If you think your ship is a frigate then it's a frigate, to be honest I'm no ship expert so I won't be the one arguing with you if it isn't. I would think that sticking as close to possible to what the ship most resembles would be less confusing. Frigate is a pretty general term, and can be applied to multiple types of ships - of course it would be very hard to make a first rate lego ship - so listing by ratings perhaps would be too much to ask. However rig type would be the easiest. Sloops (one mast) Brigs, Snows (two mast square sails), Schooner (one - five mast schooner rig, could indicate mast number to differentiate) ships (three mast square sails not big enough to be deemed ship of the line), and for you behemoth builders, ship of the line category.

I think the measurement should be in inches or centimeters, studs will be too hard for people with larger ships.

Since I do have some experience researching sailing navies I will give you the "standard" format when listing the particulars of a ship, keep in mind these are in no particular order but just for comparison:

Hull Dimensions:

Gun Deck:

Keel: (waterline)

Breadth extreme: (Longest width of the ship)

Depth of Hold: (COuld be irreverent for lego - but some know this statistic. COuld adjust it to from waterline to top of the hull.)

Tons: I don't know how you would figure out this

*interestingly enough, alot of plans and records don't record the total length of a ship from bowsprit to the other end...

Number of Ports:

Lower Deck:

Middle Deck:

Upper Deck:

Dimension of ports:

Spar Dimensions

Fore Mast :top, topgallant

Main: Topmast, topgallent

Mizzen: top, topgallant

bowsprit

jibbom

driverboom

gaff

Ordinance:numbers, weights and types

Now i don't suggest we do all this... especially spar dimensions since many will be the same. Just presenting what it looks like usually to a researcher... with that said this is my suggestion for the table:

Ship's Name / Number of Guns / Ship type (by mast and rigging type, also followed by any descriptor such as frigate, corvette, 3rd rate, etc...) / Water line Length / Overall Length / Width / Height of tallest mast / Captain / Nationality / Home port / No. Of Crew / builder / Links

In that order

It would be really awesome if the table was organizable by any of the categories so you could always compare ship statistics.

after that long wind... I really don't have any information for my ships as I am 1000 miles from them now. they are all bubble wrapped and being stored at my moms house... (shes not so happy about having 40 ships laying around her basement lol) And I have no ship building materials in my very small collection here. mostly unopened castle sets lol. But I am interested in seeing what comes of this little project, I would even be willing to be the one who records all the information and stores it until the web designer can make the page / and or update it.

I did something similar a long time ago back on lugnet with fleet indexes, we only recienved information on a couple fleets so it didn't work as well. but it was a neat experiment.
