Kolonialbeamter Posted February 5, 2017 Posted February 5, 2017 Hello again, here's another result of my landlubbing endeavors: Fort Henri On the northern shores of the Baie de Tyche, overlooking the town of Lavalette, lies the company's fortress at Lavalette - more commonly referred to as Fort Henri, after the town's first mayor - Henri Hollande. Spoiler Its construction began as soon as the first settlers arrived, and now it protects the growing settlement and the entire bay. Fort Henri is one of the first forts in New Terra featuring a semaphore mast, which allows the garrison to communicate quickly with similar stations around Lavalette, even reaching as far as Windfall, increasing the chances for a successful defense in case of an attack on the island. For now, the fort is only equipped with light field guns, but the RNTC has plans to invest in additional defenses once the settlement grows. About: My first attempt at a star-fort, and I think it worked out alright. As usual, all can be built - if you have the 15.000 bricks necessary Oh, and most of the building time here went into the surface pattern/foliage Although its footprint is far larger than required for a large fortress, it'll only be licensed as a medium, because... that's what it looks like in my eyes. Thanks for watching! C&C as always welcome Vive le Roi! Quote
gedren_y Posted February 5, 2017 Posted February 5, 2017 Ooh, I am loving the design. It reminds me so much of the fort at St. Augustine. Fond memories. The best photo of me was taken there. Quote
Bregir Posted February 5, 2017 Posted February 5, 2017 Great looking star fort, KB. I am loving those snot walls - very inspiring - and you have managed the links and corners between wall sections beautifully. The semaphore is a great addition, although Corlander scientists are working double time to figure out a better, more efficient, and more scientific way to conduct medium and long distance communications!! So far, the best they have come up with is smoke signals, so naturally, the department has suffered some aggressive "reorganisation".... ;) Whenever the real guns are mounted, i would say it would make a fabulous large fortress! The landscaping all around is great too, as is what we can see of the central courtyard. Cooke, as military governor of King's Harbour, might be interested in talking to the architect of this wonder, when he starts developing the defenses of the city! Quote
Kwatchi Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 Wow! I have been doodling ideas for a hexagonal fort for a few months now but I was nowhere close to what you have managed to create. This is a very impressive angled construction. I am bloody envious. I am also a big fan of the gunner taking a sneaky nap. Quote
Franco Clarke Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 Lovely fortress, I'm sure Lavalette will be in safe hands! I like the texture on the courtyard and how the building nestles into the terrain. Quote
Kai NRG Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 Keep up the landlubber efforts KB - this is awesome! Great shape, fantastic job on the textures and all, and the stumps scattered around are neat too. Quote
Capt Wolf Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 Gorgeous star fort! The angles are well hidden, and the snot walls are very effective! Wow! Quote
blackdeathgr Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 EVERY TIME i am looking at that baby I am left speechless! I love those sloped forts sooo much!!! KB you are a small (Oleander) god! Quote
Umbra-Manis Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 This is an impressive piece of work KB! Quote
Captain Genaro Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 Gorgeous, absolutely gorgeous. The angles are fantastic as is the texturing on the walls (both interior and exterior). The details, such as the company's seal over the gate, the tree stumps surrounding the walls, and various buildings in the courtyard really bring this build to life. While the Mayor appreciated the dedication ceremony, he did feel that the sun was too bright, that everyone spoke too loud, and that there was a general lack of liquor between breakfast and lunch. Garmadon Posted February 11, 2017 Posted February 11, 2017 Excellent fort, KB, the shape is just about perfectly executed, and neat and innovative shape it is! Your figs' suits, cannon, and wagon are great details as well, and I'm also a fan of that fellow stealing a nap there! If there's one nitpick I'd have, it's that I would like to perhaps see a bit more color - it really is a lot of grey, and the landscape colors are rather muted as well. Maybe a few palm trees would have helped with that, but I see they've cut them all down so they don't get in the way A bit of jungle in the corner or some more jungl-ish foliage and flowers might have done the trick too - but then, this thing already is tremendously huge, so I can totally see why you wouldn't have wanted to make it any bigger! At any rate, excellent job here: keep it up! Quote
Mike S Posted February 11, 2017 Posted February 11, 2017 Excellent fort! And I love the detail of tree stumps around the fort! Quote
Captain Braunsfeld Posted February 12, 2017 Posted February 12, 2017 Brilliant - and not only that: this seems to be historically correct! Quote
Gideon Posted March 16, 2017 Posted March 16, 2017 Fantastically nice fort! I tried to work out a design for a fifth of a star fort back in Challenge II, but got frustrated with the angles and ended up with a simpler design. I'd love to steal a few techniques from here for future builds Especially the clever transitions at the corners using wedges was nice, as it could easily pass for intentional slits to fire down at attackers along the wall. Also, making the tips of the bastions 90 degrees seems to make a lot of the building easier. Quote
