Hi all,  I am New to Lego trains and bought the Holiday train at a discount at a local store. I have built it and added power functions but the train will not pull any of the cars. The front wheels keep spinning. Can anyone help a new Lego train fan and new eurobricks member?

First of, welcome!

I'm not too familiar with the holiday train, but I assume the drivers aren't equipped with O-Rings so there's a lack of traction. Try adding some rubber to the driven wheels.

Thanks for the welcome!

I took a look at the wheels of the engine and they do have O-rings

And the engine runs fine without any cars attached. But as soon as I add the cars it will not run.

There are two places I'd double check:

-first the Xmas tree car since it uses gears for the spinning function

-second the large red wheels, do they spin freely? Might need to adjust those

hope this helps!

Do you have a way to control the speed? Don't give 100% from the beginning but try to build your way up.

Try running it without the spinning christmass tree car. That causes a lot of drag. second... try running through stragihts, and not around curves first.

Add Cars one at  a time on the straights... it should be able to pull everything, level, across the straights.

Final thing... Are your batteries fully charged/new?  Low batteries = low power for the motor.

Good luck.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I did some experimentation and found out that if I put the pf motor in backwards (opposite of what the instructions say) it will run just fine.
