Aha! I can see 'em now. I see what you're looking to do - cool idea! Clearances might be a bit tight between the rotating frame and the central core when you prototype that in-the-brick and rotate it, though. Be interested to hear how it turns out!

My design is a bit wobbly when moved because of play in the turntables and balancing the front-heavy fore section on the single stand at the front, despite the turntables being very well braced within each section of the frame. I don't move it around, though - just look at it admiringly from afar. :laugh: 

With the beefier (more "classic" :wink:) turntables and central tie-together core idea, if you can get this approach to hold it all together wobble-free, that'd be a great enhancement!

How are you going to drive the rotating section? From the outside of the grey turntable part on the 4th image? There doesn't look like a lot of space to get a gear to the inner ring of the black one when that solid core is in-place...

Cheers man. I agree, the clearances are going to be the challenge. I'm planning on prototyping this tonight after I get home from work to see if I got it right. I selected the older style turntables for two reasons... I have them in my parts collection, and they offer more room in the centre and between the connectors. I still need to design a mount/transition from this centre "axle" to each of the fore and aft sections, one that doesn't disrupt the proportions or stability

As far as driving the rotating section goes, I was thinking a low gearing direct drive of the outer ring (the grey one) on the rotating frame. I may have to reverse the orientation of the mid section, but it's symmetry is a blessing in that way. Ideally, mounting an electric motor as near to the rotating section as possible and trying to incorporate an axle guide into the black part of the turntable to stabilise the end with a low tooth count gear. I'm not fond of it, but space restrictions pretty much dictate that it will be an 8 tooth gear, which will place a lot of torque on both gear and axle. As I think about it now, I may have to design a gearing system to step down enough to turn at an appropriate speed.

Thanks to @manglegrat and the provided 3D model, I was able to build the Alexander a companion ship. The Eisenhower.

Besides giving the base the fourth pillar which proved valuable in the previous build it's built from file. (Well I could not get the 3673 technic pins on top to clamp on the 6L bars so I replaced them with tiles.)

It was really great fun to go back to the time when I was around 15. If I ever find the time I think a Warlock would make a really nice and buildable addition.

And LEGO please release some city planes so I can get those cannon bases in LBG für a reasonable price.
