Ok so heres the deal I have the 7745 http://guide.lugnet.com/set/7745 and I want to use it in a new town layout I am working on here...Couple of questions

Was there ever a 12V transformer released in North America that would work with this?

I have found the european versions all over including the one that can run the lights etc, with a converter will they work?

To my knowledge the 12V trains were never released in North America. And because of this there exist no 110-120V transformer that would work with these trains - no official ones, anyhow. The electrical system those trains and anything compatible used was modular and easy to modify and adapt, so there are probably some solutions out there that would make the train work properly, but it would require a little effort and a third-party transformer that can transform power down from 110-120V to 12V.

Note that I am saying that you should adapt the cables to fit the transformer, not modify the transformer to fit the cables!

You can do all that, or you could just get some 9V track, motor and transformer - the 9V motor will fit just fine on the locomotive.

Take a regular 240V transformer to your local electrician and see if he can install a transformer to run from 110 to 12v. Or alternatively you could just use a Model train controller that puts out 12V but the first option is probably the best if you want it to look like authentic lego.

How much 12V track do you have? Might not be worth all the effort if you only have a small amount of track. If this is the case then just send your 7745 to me and I'll look after it for you. ;-)

Landlubber: I have a HUGE volume of this track, thats the problem...I think I might have around 25 - 30 feet of the stuff, but it may be less. Regardless thats a lot of track to not have a use for.

I am TOYING with the idea of buying one of the new train [RC] ones and putting the motor and stuff on that to see if it would work...
