Posted March 6, 20177 yr To celebrate the new season of Formula 1 and the new cars, I thought I would give my 42000 an update. What started as a small refresh turned into a project The changes: -Chassis w/ simpler DRS controls -Front and rear suspension, wheel hubs -Lower, more sculpted nose -Front and rear wings, diffuser -Removable, one-piece engine cover -Turbo V6 -New mirrors -Perhaps most importantly, the car has proper rake

March 6, 20177 yr I love that! Have you considered fitting tumbler tires by the way? They are the same outer diameter as the ones 42000 comes with, and i think should look miles better then the normal ones. I just cant bring myself to spend €50 on four tires/wheels.

Those hideous things...My car is stable enough that it doesn't need one I'm still thinking about adding one though, but I am not sure what to use. I did want to try the Tumbler tires but its such a small opening for the wheel hub that it might be impossible. Edited March 6, 20177 yr by therealjustin
March 6, 20177 yr nice MOD so far but the front wing needs to be flatter/more pointy, the rear tyres need to be significantly wider than the front and the "dorsal blade" needs to be added behind the airbox to make it look more like a 2017 car
March 6, 20177 yr Beautiful MOD, your photography really makes it look great! But shouldn't the rear tires be wider than the front ones?
March 7, 20177 yr Author Definitely, but LEGO has no decent solutions for this. The tires/rims from 8674 are too expensive and never came with black rims. Nothing else would really work. I had hope that the Porsche tires would be staggered width but nope
March 7, 20177 yr It looks great. I can see lots of clever details, that really add to the great design. Edited March 7, 20177 yr by J_C
March 7, 20177 yr Great detail, I wish people did more custom open wheeled cars. Very clean looking mod for the 42000, looks awesome :)
March 7, 20177 yr Amazing job! I think the front wing is a bit too low though. Did you only use pieces from the 42000 set?
March 7, 20177 yr I like this modification, but there is something missing I just can't stop focusing in - the rear-angled "delta" front wing!

March 9, 20177 yr Kudos on an excellent piece of work. My three favorite things: The rear wing, its shape is excellent The full floorpan, just brilliant The rake! This blew my mind, so easily overlooked and you nailed it :D Only thing I'd do some work on is the front wing. Agreed, getting that delta shape is going to take some doing, but I think you could use some smaller panels to create some more of the aero-elements. Oh, and to heck with the shark fin, Ross is going to get those things banned anyway :p

Fantastic :) Thank you! I forgot to mention that the front wing sits exactly one stud above the ground when on a flat surface. It looks like it's touching in some of the photos because of the paper I use for my photo studio. I've been working on a new design but I'm not sure how sturdy it would be in real life.

March 14, 20177 yr ...well (If I did not misread this tread) new F1 for 2017 has wider tires, so perhaps silver champion wheels/tire combo would be useful?
