Ooh, maybe Mythology - it's "historic" but in a more fantastical way. I would be SOOO all over this ...

That would be too good to be true.  I don't believe that LEGO would ever cater to my tastes in such a way.

Perhaps a "greatest hits" series? I could see it but I don't think I'd actually like that. I've put a lot of time and money into collecting. Then again, Lego never really goes backwards so it may not even be a possibility. I remember years ago they did a small re-release of around 5 figures and made it available to VIP's only. It was really weak so I didn't bother with it. Besides, who would select the greatest hits figures, Lego or the fans? I'd just prefer something completely new even if it is themed. Series 14 is one of my favorite series to date so I'm open to whatever.

What does this mean?

:look:

Oh,  I think you know what it means

Though no one is on the right track as far as what that may entail. Oh well.

So if we're talking anniversaries there's the 60th anniversary of the brick, a Minifigures anniversary, some space stuff in there too.  There's also the 2018 Winter Olympics... who knows. I give up guessing for now.

Maybe it will just be themed around anniversaries?

So next year there won't be any regular classic series at all? Disappointing.

I haven't been on Eurobricks for some time now, what do you mean?

OK, so from this I gather that somehow it'll be motivated by the 40th anniversary of minifigs, but that it won't be themed around retro figures / best hits. I'll see if I can come up with any good guesses.

I don't know :sceptic:

I only heard Series 18 will be themed, and that's it.

Nothing is confirmed, but there are rumors about second Batman series. In case Series 19 doesn't happen, and I have a feeling it won't and we'll get Ninjago 2, Disney 2 or some other licensed series, then we won't have a classic series next year at all. But then again, this is just me guessing.

Correct on all counts!

It's hard to imagine a concept that fits that criteria. Something fun to look forward to though.

Hmmmm. Well, that's an interesting puzzle. I've been pondering and I don't think I've come up with anything that sounds exactly right. These are possibilities I thought of, and some are more far fetched than others:

1. A series celebrating the diversity of Lego's current minifigure lineup. So, we could see a series with about one figure per each current theme, and the figure would be something you wouldn't necessarily find in a set. Sort of like the Target gift cubes but with 16 figs, and with possibly several IPs. This sounds kinda crazy and like something that could have licensing issues.

2. A series celebrating Lego itself. So, there could be a Lego store worker, a Lego fan, someone in a Brick suit... However, it would seem hard for Lego to come up with 16 figures based on this theme.

3. A la Mr. Gold, a series with all chrome figures. Again, it's hard to imagine Lego making 16 of these, but they have been known to celebrate anniversaries with chrome figures before.

Feel free to let me know if I'm getting warmer or not.

I like this idea, and it has been tossed around a lot in the past.  I just hope that if it happens it will be compatible with bricks.  Then you could use it as someone embedded into a wall.

A series about Lego? Like, Lego staff. Key people and designers involved in history of Lego, turned into minifigures, and with some new Lego related accesorries for each to make up for lack of variety and exciting minifigure prints and headpieces. I think this would be boring to say at least, and unlikely to happen, but I really have no other ideas...

If I had to say a guess, it would be re-issues, but in different styles.

Like, a Black Falcon, but new in style... or a new Johnny Thunder, but with a modern look.

That's what I was thinking. Past IPs brought up to modern design. Blacktron, Paradisa, Ice Planet, Space Police etc.

If they want to celebrate the anniversary in some way that attracts a wide audience then it would absolutely make sense to come up with a corresponding CMF series. They could come up with re-releases as well, but this would be directed to AFOLs. They could come up with "updated" versions, but these might not be distinctive enough from regular sets with represent more or less close updates of previous subthemes. A CMF series should allow to refer to the anniversary in some way, but keep it interesting enough / as interesting as the CMF series so far.

If they decided to come up with a set of minifigs with the simpler designs and the old face expression (in the sense of the Vintage Minifigure Collection sets) or "proper" sets including vehicles, structures, equipment in the sense of Exclusive 5004419 Classic Knights Minifigure), then children might not be interested. So I'd say at best we get a mixture, e. g. a "classic knight", "classic policeman", ... and counterparts with the modern design. This might actually work well for a CMF series, as an additional aspect could be to get both an old and a new knight (for those who collect everything this aspect doesn't matter of course).

Alternatively, it could really be just refering to old logos and such like we've already seen before, but this time as a complete series. In that case they might cover the last 40 years and not just the 70ies/80ies.

Wow this makes sense.
Like: we didn't have a CMF Fireman yet, or a CMF bluecoat, or a CMF M-tron... what if they make 8 oldies and 8 new versions of that 8 oldies (like grown-up)
8 sided on one side, 8 on the other side! Nice!

Or they make dual printed head (classic and new), two torsoes, for the same minifigure :D
Just guessing...

I'd totally buy that ones, although I'm not a big fan of CMFs...

A series that every fig has a different animal would be super , but I guess new versions of figs from the last 40 years make most sense :pir-classic:
