I’m hoping legoland is keeping up with the 90th anniversary because my discovery center is Pirate Themed this month 😍😍

You should go there and take photos... and then post them in the forum so everyone else can see! :pir-classic:

You going to create a topic for that? Or should I ask you how the experience was here?

It was great, it took a while to notice the pirate theme but omgggg i was loving the hidden pirates and sets in the city layout lolol

Makes me wonder because half of the sets in the displays are out of production and they must have used them in all the other discovery centers which leads me to believe that LEGO might be reissuing them in full scale i hope!!! No way they can get their hands on those sets as expensive as some of them are hahaha

Taloncard!! I missed the adult night invite noooo hahahaha that looked freaking insane!!!

This is definitely worth creating a new topic for...  otherwise it will be difficult to find these posts in the future when they're buried deep in the topic by other posts.

The pragmatist in me says that it isn't very likely Lego is reissuing old sets, and thus I'd be inclined to say the same about any potential new Pirate line in the works.

However, that pirate backdrop you are standing in front of has a copyright of 2022 in the bottom left. This doesn't mean too much, but it does say that they printed it specifically for this year (vs say re-using some old stuff they had in storage); and because those are not cheap it also says that Lego is at least somewhat doing something pirate related (whether just marketing/promo related or otherwise, anything is something).

At any rate, thanks for sharing!

Apparently the sets old sets they reissued back in the early 2000's didn't sell that great prompting them to not reissue any more in the future.

But perhaps the situation is different now, given almost two decades has past and the cost of these older sets is significantly higher on the secondary market, than it was back then.

That is right, but the last few years they have rereleased a few sets even two that just had retired due to popular demand. However I have not much interest in old Pirates sets brought back. Firstly I have bought most of them that I want now and secondly as much as I love them they are 30 years old so I rather have new sets with modern building techniques and details like B-Bay :pir-huzzah2:

How old were the sets they rereleased?

  • 4999: Vestas Wind Turbine a limited Vestas employee set released in 2008, rereleased in 2018 as 10268: Vestas Wind Turbine.
  • 10189: Taj Mahal released in 2008, rereleased in 2017 as 10256: Taj Mahal

  • 21313: Ship in a Bottle released in 2018, rereleased in 2021 as 92177: Ship in a Bottle

  • 21309: NASA Apollo Saturn V released in 2017, rereleased in 2020 as 92176: NASA Apollo Saturn V

However I think most of the parts where still in production, that would not be the case for 30 year old Pirate sets so it is probably not happening anyway :shrug_oh_well:

Thank you for the comprehensive summary! :pir-thumb:

But how long are the required parts in production? Well that depends on the part, Mister Phes!

During 2001-2002 when the pirate sets were re-released, the newest, Red Beard Runner and Armada Flagship at 5 years, while the oldest was Black Seas Barracuda at 12 years.

Eldiano! I didn't know there were other Eurobricks Pirates members in the area--we've got to do a meetup sometime!

As Mr. Phes suggests, I do want to make a Discovery center specific topic later, but I wanted to address the Pirate reissue speculation before it gets out of hand: from what I overheard I believe these sets come from the collection of one of the employees of the Discovery Center, who has a large collection of vintage sets. Unfortunately the presence of Pirates in LEGOLANDs doesn't really say anything about the possibility of more pirate sets.

I'd like to do a video on this subject at some point, but essentially Pirates have always had a huge presence in LEGOLAND parks (and now Discovery centers!) regardless of whether there were any sets in production at the time. (This can lead to a lot of weird things, like the 4+ Pirates stuff living on in theme park merchandise and ride vehicles years and years after the theme itself was forgotten, and some pirate merchandise not even having any overt ties to actual LEGO products.) So because the side of the company that runs the theme parks has invested heavily in the pirate iconography and experiences, it makes sense for them to do events like this even if there aren't sets to sell. (I really wish it would work the other way around, where LEGO would make LEGOLAND exclusive Pirate minifigure sets since the LEGO Group now owns the theme parks again, but aside from a small appearance in the 40346 LEGOLAND Park set this doesn't seem to have happened.)

There’s a leaked image of the Viking creator ship out for those interested. Looks good from what you can see.

I can't seem to find it. Do you happen to have this image at yer disposal?

By profession, nay. By blood? Possible. Besides, vikings are old-fashioned pirates, no? :pir-grin:

We had long debates over this in the old day...  I tried to insist vikings were a type of pirate, but others just had to disagree!

I seem to recall seeing it somewhere in the forum...

Slightly off-topic, but the new 2022 Bluebrixx pirate line was just announced, some brisk sets in there for certain.   105128 and 105130 seem quite good.

What is "Bluebrixx"? VIDIYO?

It is a Lepin-type company that produces Lego knock-offs. They seem to have a pirate line in the past:

For some reason it has @Piraten's name as theme's title. :pir-grin:

Ohh, I have this ship!
But the previous version, with the LEGO type minifigures, not these monstrosities.

I thought the company's name was ZHEGAO.
