At least Islanders have proven to be popular in our recent contests...

With Eldorado Fortress retiring in December this year and the Creator Pirate Ship to retire in December 2025 I'm wondering if we'll get any Pirates sets after that. What do you think the future will bring us? Icons, Creator, or Ideas sets or another long drought like 2003-2008?

If the rumors are to be believed, an exploration ship (the Endeavour) should come out before those sets you mentioned retire. That's semi-like for people with a Pirate itch.

That would be fantastic. Do you have any links with more information? The HMS Endeavour from 1764 would be a perfect fit for the Pirates theme if it will be minifigure scale. A minifig of James Cook would be fantastic! So far I've only heard rumors about a set based on the Endurance, a polar expedition ship from 1912 which is way too modern for the Pirates theme.

I don't understand why they chose the Endurance. HMS Endeavour would've been a much better choice because it's historical importance and meaning for modern civilization. It would appeal to both Pirates and history fans as well as fans of display sets. With the ship being from the right time period it would've been easy to convert it to a pirate or Imperial ship.

I expect 1 pirate Icons set every 3 year, with castle and space the other 2 years. We got Castle this year, with crazy amounts of Space stuff on others themes (not sure if that counts), so guess for Space or Pirates next year:steve:

I’m expecting skull eye schooner, imperial flagship, more likely though, enchanted island.

Next year is very optimistic!

Going by your own 3 year estimate you shouldn't anticipate another Pirate Icons release until 2026, given that Eldorado Fortress was released during 2023, and Barracuda Bay during 2020.

Yes I know there is most likely space next year, but they got so much this year
Castle is the bestselling of the 3 is my guess, but if nothing change 2026 there is

More Pirates did show up in the recent LEGO Fortnite update , (reused figures from Barracuda Bay and more pirate skeletons), but they also did introduce a variant of Islanders/Kahuka people as banana people.

And players can use Pirate flintlock pistol/rifl, a tribal shield using the original Islanders shield shape,  a throwing spear , buildable cannons and medieval/pirate tutor housing (basicly an XXL version of the housing seen in the 3-in-1 castle in terms of color scheme with brown/yellow walls, darkblue roof, and the stone bottom walls and white interior walls make it feel more like Medieval Blacksmith indoors)

So I think LEGO is still well aware they exist.

I'm not suggesting pirates sets released under the Fortnite theme, but still think it's clever they did a clear Islanders inspired content patch (+ useable pirate guns + shield and spear) while somewhat playing it "safe" by making them banana people. (ninjago did something similar a while ago making them purple skinned or even 2 headed)

Unfortunately, the near future does not look very promising when it comes to pirate themed sets. Lego has not forgotten about Pirates, but it is just a gimmick at this point. A Fortnite skin, CMF figure or a Legoland set or GWP.

Barracuda and Eldorado both had surprisingly short shelve lifes of around 1.5 years. I wonder why?

And when will POTC 6 in theatres? 2027? 2028? If it comes to big sets, like LOTR got, i only see the Black Pearl as a possibility, but sadly no location. Other ships maybe??

Yes hopefully it is because most people buy it fast not that it's not selling well. However B-bay was sold out for months so that was really strange. Space set had a short shelf-life as well, but Castle seem to last longer..

Do you really think that POTC 6 will be successful without Johnny Depp?

I could see them releasing an Icons Black Pearl or Flying Dutchman though.

I am not so much interested in the movie itself. I am more interested in the accompanying Lego sets! :pir_laugh2: I guess POTC 6 is the only chance of getting a wave of sets and even battlepacks.

Funny, I just watched POTC 2 last night :pir-triumph:

With Space getting a set next year, pirates turn could be again in 2026 then.

Eldorado didn´t seem to be selling that well. I mean it was meant to stay around till 2026 and they changed it to 2024.

Oh wow, I didn't know that. 2020 when BB came out i was not yet settled on Star Wars and Pirates, so i missed out on the set. If it would be still on shelves, i would have bought it.

Yeah they changed it quite a while ago. End of 2023 or early this year.

I liked the bay but didn´t buy it. To many good sets and space and money are limited in the end. Though, todays me would probably have bought it :P

The problem with Eldorado is that it is essentially in isolation (with the exception of the Creator Pirate ship and few small random one-off sets like 40597). A soldier fort is all well and good but I think sailing ships from several factions will always be more fun and a fort/port set would really work only as part of the world-building for a Pirates theme rather than as a one-off set. In my opinion, one issue with past Pirate revivals has been too much focus on random small land structures rather than on the ships themselves (I understand this is a cost issue) - I feel like kids would find ship chases/battles to be more captivating than multiple small fort and pirate hideout structures.
