Sandy Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 One thing I noticed though, the new Advent Calendar states that there are nine minifigs included, but only eight shown on the box. Could one be a new Elf do you think? Considering the proximity of the release to 2009? Or it could just be the skeletal snowman :) Actually, there's a white skeleton placing it's head on the snowman, so that's the ninth minifig. 1. White skellie 2. Black skellie 3. Witch 4. Troll 5. Dwarf 6. Jester 7. Maid 8. Knight 9. Soldier It's going to be an awesome parts set, I'm sure, and I'll be getting it as soon as it's possible (christmas can wait!). ;D
WhiteFang Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 (edited) I hope either of two things will happen next year:1. Only Elves as a new faction, so the Orcs can get al ittle focus with an Orc Fortress, and the Dwarves can get more sets, which they desperately need. 2. Or, we DO get a new evil faction, but the role of background faction (used this year by the crownies) is taken up by dwarves. I will certainly wish that option 1 will come true. I only wished for Elves as a new fraction. More sets pertaining to Dwarves, Orcs and Trolls. An Orc fortress will be lovely. The evil fraction is in need of a good stronghold except for the Skeleton Tower. The only sets which I'd be interested would be:-a hut for the dwarves -a dwarf Impulse set -a nice set would contain either the witch or the female citizen from the advent calendar or both *wub* Dwarf Impulse set seemed like a dream come true for all castle collector whom love this current theme. It's so hard to get hold of dwarves these days. I mean building an army of it. The hut idea sounds very sweet. But I thought most dwarves live in mines these days? The female citizen in the advent calender is the main reason why I love that set so much. Actually, there's a white skeleton placing it's head on the snowman, so that's the ninth minifig. Yes, you are right! The box-art reflected this 9 mini-figs. Edited June 3, 2008 by WhiteFang
iamded Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 Indeed, Sandy! Welcome to Eurobricks, great to see another Castle fan! I'm really hoping to get Elves in '09, more Dwarves, and more Trolls. Something I would love would be a Troll Base, kind of like the Viking Fortress, only much more different, with chains, those cool walls, seen at the top of the Troll Assault Tower and at the back of the Troll Warship, and more of those cool diagonal plank support things. I'm thinking with 2 Elves, 2 Dwarves and 3-4 Trolls (one being the gold-helmed armoured guy). Anyway, just wanted to throw that out there. ~Peace
Nikola Bathory Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 I would like to see elfs in LEGO Castle too!! LOTR!!!
Sandy Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 I would like to see elfs in LEGO Castle too!! LOTR!!! I would put a whole new perspective on Legolas, wouldn't it? ;D I'm actually thinking of adding an elven character named after him (as a pun) to the Castle photocomic I'm planning.
Dwarvenlord Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 And if TLC would make a elf faction, then they would also be a great addition to those who are fond of the forestmen. I mean, the dwarves, orcs and skellies are cool, but some of theire pieces don't fit in other factions, like the beards, heads etc. The elves are much more human like, I reckon. Btw, I'm also new on the Forum. I like it very much here!
Sandy Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 (edited) I mean, the dwarves, orcs and skellies are cool, but some of theire pieces don't fit in other factions, like the beards, heads etc. I beg to disagree. All you need is a hint of imagination. ;D In the characters I prepared for my Castle-themed photocomic, I used dwarven beards for humans and even trolls as well. A little switcheroo with the helmets and pants and such will make the minifigs separate from each other (since like we all know, almost all the trolls look exactly the same by default). Oh, and I'm new too! I'm liking it much here as well. Edited June 3, 2008 by Sandy
Dwarvenlord Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 (edited) Okay, you're right. I meant that the pieces aren't that good for other factions. But how are you using orc pieces in other factions? Well, except the helmets. (srry for Oftopic btw ) Edited June 3, 2008 by Dwarvenlord
Sandy Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 Okay, you're right. I meant that the pieces aren't that good for other factions. But how are you using orc pieces in other factions? Well, except the helmets. (srry for Oftopic btw ) Helmets, pants, shoulder armor and torso (if the hands are switched) can all be used for making human bandits, unique dwarves and such. The only thing that defines them as trolls are the faces and the color of the hands. And even those can be used to make creatures like goblins (just put dwarf feet on them, and you got a new tribe of cute stumpy green men). Imagination is all it takes... ;D To get back on topic, remember all that no matter what the official sets in 2009 are, we're still talking about legos here. If you don't get a set you want, just build one yourself.
Dwarvenlord Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 That's right! But for good MOCs, you need good pieces and figs, of course. I mean, before the Dwarves came out, i only could make one with a Dumbledore beard, and that isn't always very warrior-ish . It would definitely be great if we get some Elfs, I love LOTR! Out of the fact that Tolkien made the Dragons evil creatures...
iamded Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 Maybe you two could send private messages (PM's) to each other? Just click on the user's name and a list will pop down, then click send message. New Messages will show in the top-right corner. I do agree though that Castle pieces work well with other things. Like the Dwarf beard looks fine on a biker bloke and the Troll helmet would fit perfectly for an X-Men Juggernaut fig. Anywho, on topic, erm. Well, hooray for Elves! I really want to know if they have hair, and if so, will it be part of the helmet or separate? ~Peace
Sandy Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 (edited) Anywho, on topic, erm. Well, hooray for Elves! I really want to know if they have hair, and if so, will it be part of the helmet or separate? After seeing that picture of the elf in the map (which could be just promotional and not reflect on reality), I've been wondering that too. I'm also curious to see how they'd make them look separate from normal humans. Would it just be the clothes? Or would they have printed ears on the faces? Or maybe a head mold of their own (like the goblins in Harry Potter or the many aliens in Star Wars)? Or would they have an own skin color (light grass green, perhaps)? Some fairy wings? Heh, the possibilities are endless. But I reckon there's nothing they couldn't do at the Lego factories, so we'll see what they come up with. ;D I do wish the possible elf sets would have the same deep forest feeling to them as the Forestmen theme. PS. I know what a PM is, silly, this is hardly the first message board I visit. But thanks for the reminder. ;D Edited June 4, 2008 by Sandy
iamded Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 I think the Elves will have normal mini-fig heads, as that's what I got from the picture we saw. I'm really wondering if the hair will have a stud on the top for helmets, or if, as I said before, the hair and helmet is one piece. Or if the hair is a separate piece but only compatable with Elf helmets. I'm also hoping for new longbows, other wise I'll have to make a BrickForge order. PS. I know what a PM is, silly, this is hardly the first message board I visit. But thanks for the reminder. ;D Well, just makin' sure, and letting others know. ~Peace
Dwarvenlord Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 I think it's a piece that you detache to the minifig the same way as a beard, plate armour, a pare of epaulets etc. I mean, the Dwarf beard is also a beard and pony tail in one...
Sir Dano Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 Anybody else hope that tit's a new quiver design rather than just a re-use of Indy's murse?
Dwarvenlord Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 Well, why change the old quiver design? It worked out in the more classic sets, so why not here?
Sir Dano Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 Well, why change the old quiver design? It worked out in the more classic sets, so why not here? Personally, I find that the old quiver design adds too much height to minifigs. I'd love to see a new one similar in design to Indy's murse, as long as it's not just a direct re-use of the murse.
JimBee Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 i think the elf has a normal minifig head (although ears attached to the helmet/ hairpieces would be welcome), and a new mold hair that is rubbery (like Kit Fistos) and has a stud on top where any headgear/ hair is compatible.
Batbrick Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 I'd love for the hair and helmet to be separate, imagine the possibilities! Batbrick Away!
iamded Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 (edited) Anybody else hope that it's a new quiver design rather than just a re-use of Indy's murse? Murse? What the heck is that? I thought that was just a carrying bag, not a quiver. I kind of suspected we'd get quivers and those 'murses'. I think it's a piece that you detache to the minifig the same way as a beard, plate armour, a pare of epaulets etc. I mean, the Dwarf beard is also a beard and pony tail in one... Yes, I was thinking that, but the hair comes from the top of the head, not around the neck. Here's a refresher (thanks to the Bonaparte's front page post back then, and Pigbrick for getting the picture :wink). I really like the helmet, and the head reminds me of the ones in the Asian themed Orient Expedition sets. ~Peace Edited June 5, 2008 by iamded
Sir Dano Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 Murse? What the heck is that? Murse=Man purse Or would you prefer I call it a manbag?
iamded Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 (edited) Murse=Man purseOr would you prefer I call it a manbag? Ah yes. I got that after I googled it. I, apparently, have a murse. ~Peace Edited June 5, 2008 by iamded
WhiteFang Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 Well, I welcome all possibilites for our new elves fraction, which will have some preview by the end of this year. Hope TLC won't disappoint us. As for the quiver design, I strongly preferred it remain classic. I don't think I will be able to accept something very different, especially all my castle collections are holding this classic quiver. If the classic quiver is no longer available, that will be a big headache for me. Furthermore, classic quiver is a great use for all fractions. Forestmen is one classic examples.

WhiteFang Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 I agree. Besides, I've got plenty or quiver-less archers, so I need more quivers! Same here, I am short of quivers too. For example, the crossbow attack had a crossbow archer that comes along with no quiver, and we have to search for some extra quiver to add on it. It seemed the currenet castle era, not many sets with archers seemed to come along with it. Therefore, if the new elves fractions have no more classic quiver, I feared that it will be one of the last moments where classic quivers re-surface again. As many are aware that many classic weapons such as the short sword, spear, axe and etc are replaced by a newer color and a newer weapon type as we can see in the current castle theme. However, I will like to point out. It's a great improvement that TLC is introducing new weapon types, but no matter how good that particular weapon is, it can never replace the weapons that TLC used to produced in the past. As much as I love the new ones, I will certainly hope that the old ones can remain.
