I'd really like to see another human faction, but not the standard knights.

Since we've already seen two ships, (orcs and skeletons) and both where from the bad guys I'd like to see some medieval pirates, they can be used to help out or attack the crownies. (Pirates are only liberal people who like to see equality in the world :-P)

My other idea would be a more eastern faction (near east), more technological advanced, and with elephants to battle the dragons. (I know that elephants can't fly |-/ ) Again, they could be both good and evil.

And of course, civillians are always welcome.

Actually, I'm thinking elves, especially after this:

elf.jpg

This came from my newest Brickmaster magazine where there was a giant map of all the fractions, including the dwarves and trolls (which were just hints for upcoming sets. Remember, the magazine is far behind compared to what we already know ;-)). I hope this is real and not just an illustration because that picture is showing a hair piece that a helmet can be put on top of!

Doesn't look very elf-y to me. Which is good and bad. He looks more like a Hun or someone from Eastern Europe or Western Asia. I'm liking that helmet though.

Seeing as it says 'The Elflands' Right there, it looks elf enough for me :-$ Great stuff. Can't wait to see what lego comes up with for them, hope its good X-O

Looks better than i expected, the hair helmet combo looks great to me.

Any chance of seeing the rest of this map?

*wub* Ah, fantastic! Those elves look great. In a way I'm glad they don't have ears, as I don't want them looking like an army of yellow yodas or dobbys X-D

They don't really look like elves at all, looking really rugged and nomadic. Great for a human faction, not so good for an elf faction :-/ I'm sure that once we see them in colour though, they will look much more like elves (assuming they are going to release these guys)

Great find, Pigbrick *y*

Watch out there, you're walking on thin ice X-D

I totally agree with you there.

Having pointy ears could have been a catastrophy IMO. After watching that pic again, I'm happy that TLC went with regular MF head (yeay I'm assuming we'll get those ;-) ).

That hairpiece is enough to make the elvish qualification (instead of the forestmen 2009 one :-P )

Actually I'm wondering if the helmet and hair are 2 distinct parts or a single part |-/

So I guess they'll have a dark green / dark brown color combination wich would rock big time 8-

Oh My! *wub* That's great news. Going by the prototype drawings of the Troll the end product could be pretty close to that drawing. Thanks very much! *sweet*

Hmm it seems Lego is releasing some very specific faction styles...

Crownies: Good Royals

Skelletons: Magic/undead

Dwarves: Workers (the mine set)

Trolls/Orcs: Barbarian

Elves: Forestmen

All seem to follow a somewhat specific styling. As said before the Troll/Orc faction are probably as Barbarian as we'll get, a lot of their sets are focussed on seige weaponry and movement, and the only Dwarves sets revolved around the mines.

Since from that picture it suggests the Elvish faction will follow a Forestmen style, which will be great since I know a few people here were working on forest set-ups. Very promising idea. So I guess from here we can ask what we can expect as another faction. I still think we may see one more Human faction, possibly bad guys (even if the sets revolve around attacking Elves/Dwarves to avoid the Human v Human conflict in the sets)

I'd like to see a harbour/coastal faction. This would be a great chance to appease not only castle fans, but also a few of the Pirate fans, by releasing some ships and a trade port. I think it's a big possibility with the two bad guy factions having Ships now, the good guys really need an ally (or perhaps it'll be based around the Crownies...dunno) who can match them at sea.

That's great! I find it unlikely that we'll see a helmet/seperate hair combo like that, but I'll just be happy with the helmet and some new archers finally. Plus the manbag and new shield pattern, of course.

If this turns out to be true, LEGO will have managed to keep making an already great line, even better.

Castle 2009 On! *y*

I hope there is a new hair piece or two (maybe a blonde version of the new tombraider style agents' one) and a new helmet or two, rather than a combination hair/helmet piece.

The latter would be too specialized and not able to be used as much.

i would say that this will most likely be true.

remember the first promo pic of the new castle line..

they showed us the orcs and a ship in the backround.

so lego is "hiding" clues and info and it seems like we found one!!

i'm not very happy with the orcs-trolls

(thow i LOVE the dwarfs)

but i cant wait for a lovely tree house for the elfs!!

if only we could find a preliminary pic for 2009!!

Awesome news, Legomilk! I sure hope the even more recent brickmaster revalations are true, because an elven faction would rock in lego! *sweet*

Of course, I hope we see the return of the other factions too. I still am waiting for my hundred dollar skeleton fortress..... ;-)

Oh, schmoot. Brickshelf is down for some reason and I just uploaded the rest of the scans from the magazine too (timing was a bit odd...). They're there but I'm gonna have to wait to post them.

The best way I can describe the two page spread is that it reminds me of Tolkien's maps (less detailed though). Well, that is about it for now until Brickshelf gets back online.

EDIT:

Well, that was quick 8-

I rec'd my Mag today as well and my daughter actually noticed it while completing the "skull search".

Not too sure if I like the simple bow and arrow design on that shield, but it is great news indeed!!!!

Here's to future Battles of the 5 Armies!!

Great insights to the 2009 Castle Sets. I will defintely look forward to Elves fraction adding into my existing kingdom. I love Elves (Archer) so much, they look really cool. Personally, i feel that the new helmet is a good replica on the Elves image without alter its mini-fig head too much. (Can't imagine where can LEGO design its ear ;-) )

I will defintely look forward to next year too! From the picture of it, it looks real promising :-D

Lastly, thanks for this wonderful news *sweet*

My own two bits:

I think this is all very cool. However, I too would like to see more 'human factions,' and villagers and such. Maybe we will see both ... if the advent calendar is any indicator *sweet*

Elves! Sweet.

Wow! Thanks - that's a great image and great news. I'm sure we'll see elves in '09.

Lego is really going all out to make the Castle theme a proper integrated and interesting world with a variety of races, not just a slightly modified year-after-year Good Guys vs Bad Guys KK2 approach. Definitely the right way to go to keep people interested.

Sadly I don't think we'll see much in the way of villagers/ civilians if the constant stream of catapults and battle machines is anything to go by. They are obviously still big sellers.

I get the feeling it'd be one part, it's just too complicated to have a hairpiece that works wityh other helmets, and a helmet that looks good without the hairpiece. :-/

Anyway, this is very exciting stuff, I can;t wait to see what 2009 holds for us!

2009 ON!

Thanks Pigbrick! Maybe we could expect something from the Northern Shores? Some sort of Merpeople faction? 8-|
