March 24, 20177 yr Author Alright, so I have changed a bunch of stuff. I am still not totally sure about the wheels, but I think I like this set up a lot better than the tracks. And it is much more compact. Here it is; The gearing for the drive -> 36t -> 16t -> 20t -> 8t -> worm gear So I speed up the L-motor and then using the worm gear, the speed decreases again. The bot is faster than when I was using the track, but it is not too fast. Tell me what you think :)
March 24, 20177 yr Looks good ! (but imagine how many L motor wires will be destroyed from extreme bending )
March 25, 20177 yr Author I have all day tomorrow to build. I am hoping to get the drive system built better and start building the main weapon. If it works out like I want it to, I will be able to hit all the bots no problem
March 25, 20177 yr Wow, that is a dense build, good way to keep the center of gravity low. I liked the tracked base better, it looked mean, but of course improvement is always better. BTW, never seen so many L motors at once...
March 25, 20177 yr Drive system looks good and strong, but (as Said to the regicide builder) worm gear are not soo efficient, are you using 1:8 or 1:24 gear reduction? And what about turning speed? Looking forward too a video but I see a really good professed here, also because higher friction of the wheels will matter when transferring disk energy to the opponent bot. Another good think is the almost squared footprint that helps steering, a 4wd bot will steer better as long as it is shorter and larger, but square is a good compromise! If you are looking to update the drive I suggest something like: gear reductions-> conical gears (like hypnodisk drive) so by removing friction under high torque you can keep speed the same but gain pushing power, that is always a good thig
March 29, 20177 yr Author After building and rebuilding the main body of the bot multiple times and still not getting what I wanted it to be, I decided to build the weapon and see how that goes. This is my first attempt at it and I do not think it turned out too bad. Tell me what you think. PS, I would have uploaded a video too, but since I got the SBricks, I can not use my phone to shoot the video, I will have to figure something else out in the mean time Edited March 29, 20177 yr by aminnich
March 29, 20177 yr That looks insane ! If you get some hight rpm with that you will do some damage ;)
March 29, 20177 yr Author It works great and those are not empty battery boxes. Those have the good (heavy) duracell batteries, I still want to reinforce the arms those, don't want them to break off.
March 31, 20177 yr Author Here is a quick video of what my bot looks like right now. More progress to come this weekend.

March 31, 20177 yr It looks really scary, better than expected. What are the dimensions now with the weapon on? One terminus technicus correction: the sheet is used not plywood, but OSB. I use plenty of those in my profession, and considering the durability, strength (and price), it really matters which we are talking about. Edited March 31, 20177 yr by agrof
March 31, 20177 yr Wow that looks really destructive, have you tried letting it hit something? Hopefully it doesn't tear itself apart when you do that

And yes I knew that, I wasn't going to get all technical about the type of wood I was using haha 2 hours ago, Rennuh said: Wow that looks really destructive, have you tried letting it hit something? I still want to strengthen them Like I said, I am hoping to finish the bot this weekend, i have a lot of other stuff going on and the bot needs to get done now or it will never get done does anyone have a suggestion for the name? March 31, 20177 yr Author Thanks for all the name suggestions guys, I like them all. @Milan @Jim I need the the moderators of the contest to verify if my bot is too big. I am pretty sure it is, but I want to double check. I have included pictures of my bot inside a 45x45 square. The first picture is the bot inside the box from the top and the 4 others are pictures from the corners of the square. The bot's arms are right at the edge of the side beams, but they do not cross them, I made sure of it. If you have a problem with anything, please tell me sooner than later so I have enough time to change it. Thanks Once I get the go ahead or not, I will delete those pictures from the topic since they take up so much room. If you need to see them again, I will have them on my computer and can easily post them again.
March 31, 20177 yr Hi Aminnich, I can't take a very good look from photos, you need to measure it manually from two most distant points. Keep this in mind - Max 45L wide, deep and high or...max 45 in any direction. From the photo, it looks like you have taken some tiny advantage from diagonal line, ultimately leading to a bit bigger bot than 45L Take a look at this pic for Erik Leppen: This is not allowed. It may be bigger for just like half a stud, but we should keep all entries under or 45L.

Was under the impression that it had to fit inside a 45Lx45L square in the starting position. Technically, my bot could be starting the match in the arena with the main weapon at a slight angle, but it fits. When I am building again later today, I will measure that green line you have marked and see what it is.

If I make a square bot of 45x45 it would be within the rules but also not because the diagonal would be longer?
