Siegfried Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 ...well to be honest we have considered this concept! Not exactly like yours, but similar. (With the exceptions of the prizes.) So please show your interest and/or discuss this; it'll help us decide on the actually format and/or if we'll ever do it! Quote
ThatGuyWithTheBricks Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 OK, I know it's improbable and controversial, but that's what makes it so dang epic! Besides, there are dedicated fans to each theme/section. I think every theme would have an equal chance. Quote
Blackicep8ntball Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 (edited) Well, to be honest with ya, GuyWithTheBricks, I don't think it's such a bad idea for a contest, and I think Siegfried's post demonstrates that your idea isn't that farfetched at all. It would be a massive contest, but EB is a massive sites with loads of talent, and I think it has the capacity to handle such an event. I'm for it! Sure, it may need some modifications, but it's just in the concept stage right now. Keep the concepts rolling! Edited July 29, 2010 by Blackicep8ntball Quote
XimenaPaulina Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 (edited) Upon reading this topic, I've had this contest idea pop out of my mind out of nowhere, I don't know if this was done before but here it is: Name: "Futurized" Contest Scope: All themes Concept: To create a futurized version of an item, minifig, vehicle, building, or any element specific to a theme. By futurized means a version of something you project to see well into the future, say Year 2100 onwards. Examples: A futurized version of a Pirate ship, or a futurized Castle, a futurized City bus, a futurized X-Wing, a futurized lawnmower, a futurized Spongebob, and so on and so forth. Categories: Small, Medium, Large Prizes: To be determined by the mods. Wouldn't it be cool if we could provide a glimpse of the future using our creative imagination and realizing it in brickbuild? That's the whole concept. Just my simple suggestion. Edited July 30, 2010 by KielDaMan Quote

By 2100, we still won't have hyperdrives, inertial compensators, or lightsabers, and I really doubt we'll have blaster cannon*. The other problem is that SW physics are altered by the Force, which we certainly don't have. *Hyperdrives, in SW, were first created by the use of the Dark Side of the Force. They take advantage of 'wrinkles' in space, like a combination of warping from Star Trek and the 5th dimension from A Wrinkle in Time. Lightsabers and blasters, contrary to public opinion are not lasers. They are pure energy, supposedly generating little to no heat and only a small amount of light. If they were lasers, shields could just be replaced by a lot of chrome plating. Quote

Of course our civilization is far behind the SW universe technology-wise, we don't need to be too technical or too 'physics-nerdy' about this idea. What I was simply trying to tell is if you could do a futurized version of the X-Wing (or anything for that matter), how would it look like in brickform? It doesn't matter whether it's Year 2100 (it was just an example btw) or Year 4567, or from whatever universe/dimension/theme/timeline it came from, as long as you make a future version of something - that's the whole simple concept of my suggestion, no need to complicate anything. One could say, 'how do you furutrize a gun or car, when that future is so many years away?' and yet- it's been done. To futurize an already futuristic version should not be too much of a step forward. Besides- SW is a 'long time ago' so fururizing those would be.... City themed. Quote
XimenaPaulina Posted July 31, 2010 Posted July 31, 2010 (edited) I don't know if it was proper for me to post another contest idea in this topic started by ThatGuyWithTheBricks, but maybe we could use this thread for members to throw their contest ideas in mind? (That is, if there's no existing similar topic; if there's one already, kindly disregard this post.) I think it would be great to hear the voices of our members. Who knows, future EB contests might come from regular members' ideas. Edited July 31, 2010 by KielDaMan Quote
Oky Posted July 31, 2010 Posted July 31, 2010 (edited) That. Sounds. AWESOME! That contest would be made for me! But to be fair, there should be the alternative to build a Western/Woody's Roundup MOC for the third category. I really hope we'll have something like this some day, but I doubt it'll happen. Oh, and I think we should totally have another Town contest for the Collectable Minifig Series 2, just like the first one! Edited July 31, 2010 by Oky Wan Kenobi Quote
Oky Posted July 31, 2010 Posted July 31, 2010 Yes, there's already this thread, so maybe the mods could merge this topic into the other? Quote
