Piranha Posted February 16, 2008 Posted February 16, 2008 (edited) If I could chose the next contest that wasn't of my own idea , in no particular order 1. Sigfig vehicle contest( although mine would be a horse X-D ) 2. Candy Machine Contest 3. Castle Impulse (Wait thats one of my ideas) Die Block Block is a winner!! *sweet* I think 2-3 contests a month would be the best One Fun/pointless contest One Commuinty based contest One Serious in depth builidng contest, for the hard core builders out there :-P :-) P Edited February 16, 2008 by Piranha Quote
Batbrick Posted February 16, 2008 Posted February 16, 2008 This may sound very stupid and ignorant of me, so please simply ignore back if i come across as brash, but I think the contests would be well scheduled in a Major/minor pattern. As in, the Robochopper contest is a small, and not very long one, that a lot, but not heaps of people will enter. The house competition was a long running huge contest that almost everyone entered. They're all fun, I think maybe if you had a major contest and two or three smaller contests running at once, it would be easier. Or maybe two major contests and two smaller contests. You get the picture though. This is just a suggestion, my apologies if that came across as me trying to give orders from below, I just think maybe that way you could have a lot of great contests, but still make it easy to enter them :-) Batbrick Away! >:-) Quote
Hinckley Posted February 16, 2008 Author Posted February 16, 2008 Hi guys. You know I love you, but I can't make it any clearer, don't discuss the contest schedule. That's not what this thread is for. We'll take care of that. Shut your mouths. Discuss contest ideas. :-) Quote

blueandwhite Posted February 16, 2008 Posted February 16, 2008 I have been thinking about sigfig-contests a little more and had some ideas.I like the idea of sigfig spaceships, but not castles - they are too much like houses, only more boring simple. Them's is fightin words *knight* ! In all seriousness, I think any sigfig contest is great. It really opens a contest up to participants, making it readily accessable. I'd love to see a sigfig 'workingman' contest where you place your sigfig in a scene depicting your fig at your place of work (or at your dreamjob if you're still too young for the workforce). Seeing a stormtrooper at a law firm, or Yoda working a dentist's drill would be absolutely brilliant. Quote

It allows so many possibilities, and areas to where you could create humourus situation or just ideas for a great vig, all including your sigfigure. Would be a great spot to incorperate some use of action techniques aswell :-$ Would be sure to see a plethora of entries in this contest. I like it ;-) Quote
hewkii9 Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 Here are a couple more ideas: Surreal Eurobricks- Build the forum [not the people, not a mosaic of what it looks like on your monitor, a LEGO manifestation of the forum] and make it as surreal as possible. Include at least one fig building a door to go through. Fix Bionicle- We've seen the ToyFair pics. It explains itself. Ship in a Bottle- Build a ship and put it in a bottle, real or LEGO, somehow. Seeing a stormtrooper at a law firm, or Yoda working a dentist's drill would be absolutely brilliant. I had something similar in mind, but then I changed it to a sigfig 'recreation' contest since I thought that recreation would be more fun to portrait, but reading your post and thinking about it, it would probably be more humerous this way. Way to change my mind! :-P Here are a couple more ideas:Surreal Eurobricks- Build the forum [not the people, not a mosaic of what it looks like on your monitor, a LEGO manifestation of the forum] and make it as surreal as possible. Piranha Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 Hi guys. You know I love you, but I can't make it any clearer, don't discuss the contest schedule. That's not what this thread is for. We'll take care of that. Shut your mouths. Discuss contest ideas. Its just plain hilarious how you say this so elegantly!! X-D But if you insist ....... ;-) When will we know what ideas are chosen? Back to ideas Indy Vig Contest - Build a vig involving a scene from any of the 4 movies! - No Indy? No Problem! Feel free to use any character appearing in any of the movies! Official and Unofficial! King Kong Contest - Build a scene from the King Kong movies! Zorro Contest - Build a scene involving Norro! P Quote

Batbrick Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 Thanks. :-$ And thanks to you and Batbrick, I appreciate the energy and thanks for moving the discussion along. You guys are great. X-D *y* Love you too :-P ... *wub* :-| When they're announced... Really? No! X-D I really like Piranha's movie contest ideas, perhaps to simplify and expand it maybe a "Best Movie Scene EVER!" contest, where entrants make a vig based on their favourite movie scene from any movie ever. That way we could get a lot of diverse entries while not limiting the amount of people interested. And of course, I will continue to express my love for a sigfig vehicle contest, it would be a great sequel to the Eurobricks Neighborhood one. Batbrick Away! >:-) Quote
Oky Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 (edited) Back to ideas:Indy Vig Contest King Kong Contest Zorro Contest Even though each of these suggestions sounds interesting, I think we would need an occasion to have a contest about a specific movie. As we know, specification limits the number of contestants, but if there is a remake, adaption, or sequel of a movie coming up or currently in theatres, or if there is a new line of legos with that movie as the theme, people would be much more interested in entering such a contest. Else, one could suggest contests for any movie that comes to mind. Therefore, with all the new indy sets and the 4th movie coming up, the "Indy Vig Contest" would be an option. If there is no special occasion, but if you still want to have a contest about a certain movie, I would suggest to generalize the contest a bit to make it interseting to a larger croud of people. If you want to enter a contest with a King Kong moc, for example, the contest could be "Black & White Classics" or "Classic Monster Movies" or something like Batbrick suggested. I hope you understand my concerns and forgive me for being so critic about such great suggestions. ;-) Now I have some more ideas to give: Sigfigs Lost in Time Imagine a black hole would apperear in the EB Neighbourhood and would suck in all sigfigs and thrust them back in time! 8- Edited February 20, 2008 by Oky Wan Kenobi Quote

Oky Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 (edited) I quite like this one aswell - It also seems like a vig contest - Meaning almost anyone could join, as you don't need a large amount of bricks. Thanks! And yeah, that's what I thought, too, but didn't say it because I thought maybe some of us would like to use this opportunity to recreate a whole little civil war scene or something, but thinking about it, you're right - vigs do attract more contestants, especially when it involves sigfigs. This is not only due to the little amount of bricks needed, but also to the fact that, in larger mocs, sigfigs and (humorous) details get lost. So, Let's rename it to "SigFigs Lost In Time Vig Contest", shall we? ;-) Btw: As I'm writing this, my TV is running, and it just gave me another interesting idea: How about a MYTHBUSTERS related contest? *sweet* Perhaps something like "Recreate the busting of your favorite myth"? Then again, there has't really been any minifig head with a beard, a mustache, and glasses. Or has there? Well there was this one train-guy from the last advent calendar... Idk 8-| sounded like fun to me anyway as it is an awesome show! Here are three more ideas: Fancy Chess Set Contest Inspired by the awesome Dwarves vs. Trolls chess set, this contest asks you to build the best, fanciest, most detailed chess set ever! 8- Edited February 22, 2008 by Oky Wan Kenobi Quote
kill will Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 I REALLY like the sig-fig lost in time, And why? 1. Sig-fig contests are always popular 2. It could be from any theme 3. You only need like 40 pieces *y* *y* *sweet* Quote

''Am i missing an eyebrow?!'' would make a great scene! Quote
Derek Posted February 22, 2008 Posted February 22, 2008 How about a Simpsons custom contest? -a master list of characters is provided -If a member decides to create a minifigure based on that character, it becomes taken no one else can make it for the contest. -winner would be decided by a poll This really could be done for anything, historical figures, cartoon characters, etc. Dp8 Quote

zero1312 Posted February 24, 2008 Posted February 24, 2008 (edited) I don't know if it was posted before, but how about a "Creator" animal contest? You could built existing ones, extinct ones and mystical ones. You can only use parts from the "Beast" Creator sets. *wub* Edited February 24, 2008 by zero1312 Quote
SlyOwl Posted February 24, 2008 Posted February 24, 2008 I don't know if it was posted before, but how about a "Creator" animal contest? You could built existing ones, extinct ones and mystical ones. You can only use parts from the "Beast" Creator sets. *wub* Or just a plain Animals contest - build any animal, real or mythical, to around minifig scale. This could bring out lots of unusual entries, such as in Micahberger's style... ;-) Quote
Oky Posted February 24, 2008 Posted February 24, 2008 (edited) Or maybe a mech contest where the mechs need to be based on an animal design. *sweet* But yeah, Creator would be nice, too! Edited February 24, 2008 by Oky Wan Kenobi Quote
Oky Posted February 24, 2008 Posted February 24, 2008 Btw, I read this over at the ToyFair discussion: Not sure if this was a rumor or just "common sense" before ToyFair, but it has been reported that there are definitely no new Lego Sets coming for the last 2 Harry Potter movies. I just read it yesterday...In the words of the Sleuth, "Harry Potter has gotten too dark for Lego." Something I (and others) figured after only having a castle set last year, but its a bummer to see it in print. I was very disappointed to hear this, even though Dadster is right in saying that it was inevitable as the Potter stories do get darker and TLC would never make sets to a movie that has the words 'blood' or 'death(ly)' in its title. :-P My depression about these news however gave me a great idea, as depressions seem to tend to do (Block Block Contest ;-) ): How about we salute this great line with a contest? *sweet* Here is what I have in mind: Harry Potter Contest What would Lego sets for Harry Potter 6 & 7 (And The Halfblood Prince/ And The Deathly Hallows) look like? Give us your guess in a set-like recreation of a scene from one of those two books! It can be a small 5$ set or a big 100$+ set! You don't need to provide price or piece count or anything (I'm not as petty as Hinckley ;-) ), just be creative and make it look like a cool Lego set that would honnor the name of Lego Harry Potter! :-) I can already see great entries being made, especially for the last book, portraying events like the retrieval of the last horcruxes, the Battle of Hogwarts, the Final Duel with Harry vs. Voldemort, or maybe even the last scene of book 7 at platform 9 3/4 where we see Harry & the gang all grown up with their kids! *sweet* And, who knows, maybe the entries are so good that we can pursue TLC to change their mind and continue the line! :'-) ;-) Quote
Oky Posted February 25, 2008 Posted February 25, 2008 (edited) Sigfigs Lost in TimeThe assignment of this contest is it to show your sigfig in a famous historic scene (in a humorous way). They could appear anywhere: During the signing of the decleration of Independence, the discovery of fire, or in Anne Frank's bedroom! I have to admit that the Lost In Time idea was a pretty good one (yay me X-D )! Remember the Anne Frank example I mentioned? Well, this is what I had in mind: My sigfig, Oky Wan, goes back in time and lands in the attic of a dutch house where he sees a sad little girl writting her diary, so he decides to cheer her up by playing a happy loud song on his drums for her, but somehow she doesn't seem too happy... :-D Edited February 25, 2008 by Oky Wan Kenobi Quote
Pate-keetongu Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 my idea is: castle battle manchine contest! build castle battle manchine! it can be catapult, battle ram, siege tower or other battle manchine. it can be dwarver's, crownie's, orc's or skeleton's. Quote
