January 28, 200817 yr Was this 50 years of the stud and coupling bricks or the older ones with slits and no tubes? 50 years later and it only appears in basic sets |-/
January 28, 200817 yr Was this 50 years of the stud and coupling bricks or the older ones with slits and no tubes? It's 50 years since the patent was completed for the stud-and-tube design brick. The older design (with the slits) was from a few years before.
January 28, 200817 yr Thanks both for clearing that up, does anyone know when the first brick came off the production line? Also someone on the BBC news said the brick was invented by someone else who sold it to Lego is that true? Maybe you
January 28, 200817 yr There's also a Slashdot story posted about the 50th anniversary. BBC also have coverage (video story). Good to see the relatively widespread coverage of the news. As long as all the attention doesn't drive up Lego prices on ebay :)
January 28, 200817 yr Asuka thanks for that link it was very informative I feel much better informed now. Do we get a party in 2012 for the patent being granted?
January 28, 200817 yr LEGO has also released a video, celebrating the anniversary of the brick, available in downloadable .mpg (frontpaged on LUGNET, where I found it) or on YouTube.
January 28, 200817 yr Quite a nice video, with some pretty cool effects. Not sure how the Bond music is relevant though.
January 28, 200817 yr Happy Birthday Lego! I hope your day is filled with rattling packa.... no... wait :'-( :-D :-D
January 28, 200817 yr Author I thought LEGO was older. Must confuse the dates. Not at all, you have just forgoten to read the subject. It is the birthday of the 4x2, not TLG.
January 28, 200817 yr I can't wait to see the video for the Megablock Ripoff of LEGO Anniversary Celebration! Gotta love lego *sweet*! Edited January 28, 200817 yr by Pigbrick
January 28, 200817 yr I too woke up this morning seeing the new go lego, err google logo! *wub* I haven't seen anything on tv though... Anyway, always have EB to keep me posted on the news! *y*
January 29, 200817 yr Wow, thats cool! It's on T.V... google... everywhere... But I won't complain. LEGO deserves it anyway. ;-) They are the best toy, no other can beat it. -ZotS
January 29, 200817 yr :-D , thats brilliant! :-D Happy Birthday Lego, it was cool seeing Koshie and Mel doing a feature on it on Sunrise, though I wish they'd shown more of the buildings the two men were making. As annoying as clone brands are, the public knows Lego is superior. After all, where is Megablock land? Where is Megablock's Anniversary? :-P Batbrick Something! *wacko*
January 29, 200817 yr My local radio yesterday morning had a phone-in on the subject, asking people about what sets they had as a child, what they remember as their coolest MOC (they didn't actually say MOC, and they seemed to ignore the AFOL community, but never mind), and one guy rang in and said he was off to a school to teach robotics with Mindstorms. He said it was his "dream job." Sadly I missed it, as I was in bed, but my dad told me afterwards.
