People would be losing their minds if there weren’t any exclusives here. It's not a UCS. Despite it having a similar looking black box, it doesn't say "Ultimate Collectors Series" anywhere on it. The press release says this is part of a new "Master Builder Series". After the backlash of the Assault on Hoth UCS it seems TLG now wants to keep playsets seperate. Quote
Eaglefan344 Posted August 21, 2018 Posted August 21, 2018 I have no interest in buying it as I only buy the display UCS sets, but as a playset I like it. Quote
Bartybum Posted August 21, 2018 Posted August 21, 2018 @MAB @Mr Hobbles Does it not take up a UCS slot? Quote
nikhkin Posted August 21, 2018 Posted August 21, 2018 People are certainly reading a lot into whether it's UCS or Master Builder Series. To me, it just looks like LEGO has made a bit of a clarification. Large models of ships are UCS, large playsets are Master Builder Series. Other than that, we're in a position that's no different from before. The terms may as well be interchangeable as long as we know what we're talking about. For example, when someone said they always include exclusive minifigs in a UCS set, why wouldn't that rule also apply to these MBS sets? Quote
Graupensuppe Posted August 21, 2018 Posted August 21, 2018 (edited) A worthy successor to Insult on Hoth: Betrayfail at Cloud City! Edit: Quote You're working too hard on insulting names for sets. "Betrayfail" doesn't work at all. Just call it "Fail at Cloud City" if you don't like it. How about "Bewildered at Cloud City" or "Betrayed Expectations at Cloud City"? Omg this so much. The distinction doesn’t really matter if it’s UCS or MBS - the same logic applies. They’re both fancy sets with fancy boxes, so exclusive minifigs would be expected. About the set though, while I’m not a playset dude at all, those arches on the top look beautiful ? Edited August 21, 2018 by Bartybum Quote
getbusybrickin Posted August 21, 2018 Posted August 21, 2018 (edited) I think the point that Bartybum was trying to make is that its preposterous to complain about exclusive minifigures in high end LEGO models. Exclusive figures are an intrinsic feature of the UCS/MBS sets, and people would be complaining if there weren't any exclusive minifigures. In general, fans would be complaining either way about features and lamenting them as a strain upon their day. You might not like a feature, but it doesn't mean that LEGO is out to get you, or they are now a immoral company, or life is harder for you know that this has come to pass. Some people might like what you hate, so don't be so prideful about your opinion. Edited August 21, 2018 by getbusybrickin Quote

As far as I'm concerned, they're the same thing. High-end Star Wars sets. This new category hopefully just means we'll have a bit of notice in advance if we're expecting a playset or display set for an upcoming release. Edited August 21, 2018 by nikhkin Quote
LegoFjotten Posted August 21, 2018 Posted August 21, 2018 This set is just the kind of playset I was expecting. The key minifigures all looks great; Han, Lando, Luke & Leia - finally a big gaping hole in the minifig lineup will be filled. The set looks pretty good as playsets go, covering a lot of scenes from the movie. I will definitely get it, and it moves straight to the top of my purchase list. The main draw for me is certainly the minifigures though, but I'm sure I will enjoy the build as well. Very happy that they finally made a new Cloud City set. ...and can we not have a useless discussion about UCS vs MBS vs whatever please? If you like it, buy it - if you don't like it, don't buy it. AndrewShun Posted August 21, 2018 Posted August 21, 2018 (edited) Now I'm just gonna be saving up more money for the next year's UCS. Minifigures are great in 75222, and so is Slave I at that scale. But the set itself is horrible. That's all Edited August 21, 2018 by AndrewShun Quote
Bartybum Posted August 21, 2018 Posted August 21, 2018 Just now, nikhkin said: As far as I'm concerned, they're the same thing. High-end Star Wars sets. It’ll be interesting to see if they’re sacrificing a UCS slot for an MSB. If so then it’s totally still a UCS. Back to the set - idk how I feel about the Slave I and Clour Cars. They kinda look like afterthoughts. Those fins on the Slave I are really bleh. Quote

Seaber Posted August 21, 2018 Posted August 21, 2018 I would have loved a new Leia hair mold and change the Hoth version for the escape outfit. It would have been nice to have 3PO on Chewie's back or an Imperial Officer as well. However the set looks excellent. The 2003 set has aged badly, but was a good set when it came out. This is a worthy successor. Quote

Hoth at least didn't have any must-have figures. Quote
nymmerod Posted August 21, 2018 Posted August 21, 2018 Nice work TLG! Cloud City has turned out to be exactly what I wanted out of it. YMMV. The only thing missing is 3PO's parts in a net/backpack but I'm not sure how they would pull that off and also have it be able to connect to Chewie's back without several new molds and it would probably still look derpy. LegoFjotten Posted August 21, 2018 Posted August 21, 2018 Just saw the alternate face for Luke, love it! Quote

If it’s the Slave I then I totally agree, but if it’s the actual structure itself then I have to disagree. Quote
CF Mitch Posted August 21, 2018 Posted August 21, 2018 Holy moly! That's actually a really great set! I might end up buying it, when it's released. I agree the sector's look somewhat messily organized, but the rooms themself are fantastic, so many cool details! And that Slave I looks excellent in this form. The minifigures are amazing as well. It's great to finally get updated versions of these characters' renditions. My favorite is Luke Regards, Mitch Quote
Balrogofmorgoth Posted August 21, 2018 Posted August 21, 2018 I really don’t understand why so many people are complaining about this. I even saw someone say the exclusive figures are a slap in the face. Come on people. Why would there not be exclusive figures in this set??? Sets like this are the exact kind of set that should come with a bunch of exclusive figures! The set looks fantastic, it’s exactly what everyone has been asking for forever, literally what is there to complain about? It has all the major scenes and all the characters, even different versions of some. This set really lacks nothing Quote
Pablo94 Posted August 21, 2018 Posted August 21, 2018 Looks good, but price in Poland (about 440 euros) is ridiculous. Quote
wesker Posted August 21, 2018 Posted August 21, 2018 I don't understand the complaints either. I mean we all knew it was going to be a playset and after what we got in both the previous Cloud City and the Death Star, what exactly were you expecting? Quote
nikhkin Posted August 21, 2018 Posted August 21, 2018 The most baffling complaint is people saying it's as disjointed as Assault on Hoth. It is literally all combined and connected through a series of corridors and doorways. Hoth was a handful of completely unattached parts. This is the opposite of disjointed. Especially if you look at it as 4 sections in the way it is described. The dining room / corridor in particular look great. I do wonder if you can separate the 4 segments by removing the top bracket. I would find it much easier to display if the scenes could be removed. Quote
Displayedlotus Posted August 21, 2018 Posted August 21, 2018 I think it looks like 4 sets combined in one rather than a full play set like the deathstar I wish the hallways and connections to each other were a little more seamless but it will work. Quote
Graupensuppe Posted August 21, 2018 Posted August 21, 2018 It's nowhere near as bad as Assault on Hoth and certainly not disjointed, but it looks messy and unfinished to me. Quote
