Do you think it's possible to create an app for remote control?

Someone asked me and it seems a good idea.

You can not use an app to control Lego receivers because they are infrared not Bluetooth or WIFI.

Not entirely so. I know there has been apps out there for mobile devices with IR, to be used with PF receiver.

You can use something like RoboRemo with an Arduino Bluetooth to Infrared hack to simulate a Power Function IR speed controller and/or PF IR remote.  No modifications of your LEGO PF sets are required.

If your Android has IR (some have) there are apps that can use LIRC configuration files to control Power Functions IR.
It is also possible with IRDroid and other Audio-to-IR gadgets. I've done it in the past with Android 4 but never achieve it again with Android 5, think that something must have been changed in API used by those apps.

My LG G4 has an IR port, I use it as a backup remote sometimes. I'm a fan of physical controllers, standard LEGO controllers are just fine for me

  • Jim changed the title to App for RC
