@ agrof Ah yes i'm sorry, i did not see that video yet, thanks for pointing it out!

For the workings i just checked the LDD image, more of a visual working guy then reading about it, but never checked that video.. my mistake!

how sorry not to answer before, as for "armed by gravity" you mean the moving yellow gear on ldd right?

tc11_991.png

not it si not armed by gravity, the purple moving part is connected to a rubberband that pushes it on the gears with the result that the gears are pushed "down" but even if upside down the gearing are connected, as for the srimech, the two strange horns at the back nd of the arm are there to make the bot move correctly while reloading when upside down, without that the bot can't self right if not with the weapon pre loaded (due to CoM on the back)

I also want to talk about the likeliness to win a battle criteria

there are several way a flipper can win a battle:

1) flipping a non invertible opponent
2) damaging internal components of the opponent due to high stress caused by hard-landing
3) throwing a bot out of the arena walls (robot wars) or getting it stick on the arena wall (battlebots)
4) my robot can use the arm as a spear, that would be more powerful than other rubberband based weapon in this competition (i'm not sure about wimbledoom one but i have a lot of power with a really point edge)

5)judges' decision (if the battle time ends) and i can say i HAVE THE VOTE OF A JUDGE!!! (more or less)

also i really want to make a video about how though is my bot but i will be away from home until next Wednesday

My kids are enjoying building your "Wheeled Scorpion" for a Lego Sumo/ Battle Bot contest of our own.  I'm excited to see how the flipper works, and how the design fights.  Have there been any refinements since the TC11 entry?

Earlier in your thread you mentioned building your own lego robot wars arena.  Did you do it?

really proud someone is building my bots! you may find some other smaller and simplier bot here

unforunately i stopped building lego bots for quite a while but i'm starting again since a new robot wars series began and i had some new inspirations, but wheeled scorpion was too good to be modified! currently is sleeping near the other chassis without any electronics, and i really hope i can film some fights during christmas (i have witch doctor vs cardiac II, wheeled scorpion vs The Blacksmith and hopefully 2 new robots wll join my collection to fight together).

about the arena yes, i built a new one that is almost finished and will be used for future battles here it is

The Wheeled Scorpion is really fun to fight.  Our other bots are much larger, weighing 2 to 2.5 kg, so it is a David vs Goliath scenario. We often have three way battles, so little Wheeled Scorpion is sometimes the deciding factor.  It's cool to have two separate weapons.  The wedgelets lets are surprisingly effective.  We've been working on the design to increase flipping power to become a bigger threat to those titans.  Currently we use a double line pull and 6 rubber bands.  We've also changed the battery box holder so it's easy to remove and service.  The other bots are also fast, so it is challenging to time the flip.  I'm currently thinking about a physical trigger release right on the flipper, so that it fires when it bumps against another car.

Thanks for the fun that your excellent design and building plans are providing.

Cool arena.  I look forward to seeing it in action.

that's really cool! if i'm right my bot is currently fighting lancelot and its white friend right? i hope the ability of the srimech and the edge-shaped body work good against them, also it is really difficult to compete against so big and powerful robot, glad that is performing well, if you run a small tournament don't forget to create a topic about that!

Yes, those are the current opponents.  Wheeled Scorpion is most effective against El Toro, which it can flip up on its back.  The Scorpion's wedge shape and caged wheels are particularly effective against the large bots with big wheels because they tend to drive over Scorpion, which is entertaining.  SRMECH hasn't come into play.  I think this is because when flipping Scorpion, early in the flip all the tires loose contact with the floor as it rolls against the low battery or wheel cages, and then Scorpion is rapidly pushed out.  Most flips are completed after Scorpion is pushed out of the circle.

I made an upgrade to the flipper:

This upgrade features more torque on the winch and strengthened winch support for more flipping power. It adds a second elastic actuator on the scoop for added height. Note: the red parts attached in unexpected places are to be placed nearby. LDD would not let me place them where they go due to unsolvable alignment issues. Often, you can find the bilateral part on the other side correctly placed.

Here is a link to the LDD instructions:

Dual Action Scorpion Flipper
