Alex Ilea Posted May 23, 2017 Posted May 23, 2017 (edited) Hello all ! I want to present you my curent wip MOC, an old styled race car: Features will be : -suspention(checked) -HoG(checked) -steering wheel(checked) -working engine(checked) -4speed sequetial gearbox(checked) -doors(checked) -engine cover(checked) Hornestley I am building this car just to use the tumbler tires They are quite big for a chassi like this (only half a stud between chassi and them when full steering is aplied). Adding an 8 speed gearbox to this kind of a car size is quite challenging but defenatley not impossible :) Side view: Interior as of now (steering wheel by Didumos69): I hope in the end it will be strong and very playable . Any suggestions and comments are welcome :) Edited August 21, 2017 by IA creations Quote
BrickbyBrickTechnic Posted May 23, 2017 Posted May 23, 2017 Very nice! The gearbox needs reinforcement IMO. Quote
Alex Ilea Posted May 23, 2017 Author Posted May 23, 2017 Thx and the gearbox is not even close of being finished:) Quote
Jurss Posted May 25, 2017 Posted May 25, 2017 I would rebuild rear suspension, put then normal engine begind seat, over the gearbox. Connection from HOG to steering is also "interesting". Wasn't it really posiible to put some straight axle under the seat? Quote
Alex Ilea Posted May 25, 2017 Author Posted May 25, 2017 (edited) I plan to add an 8 speed so all the space behind the seat is taken :( There is no space under the seat [and the HOG works just fine :) ] PS:I think I will end up only with a 4 speed gearbox . Edited May 25, 2017 by IA creations Quote
Alex Ilea Posted May 27, 2017 Author Posted May 27, 2017 I rebuilt the rear suspention and moved the engine : More progress to come :) Quote
Alex Ilea Posted May 31, 2017 Author Posted May 31, 2017 (edited) UPDATE TIME :D The rear suspention was rebuilt and 4 speed gearbox (inspired by the master , @Didumos69) added (8 speed is just to ambicious) : I want to build the body like this : What are your thoughts guys ? Do you like what you see ? What can be changed ? EDIT: I still need to figure out how to do a sequential shifter . Edited May 31, 2017 by IA creations Quote

Though if they work for you that is fine. Edited June 1, 2017 by Aventador2004 Block of text Quote
DugaldIC Posted June 1, 2017 Posted June 1, 2017 I like the body style you're going for, however (and it might just be me) but is it too narrow? Or is it scaled at that width. I guess I'm thinking of the late 80s prototype cars that were wedge shaped, low and wide. Like the Mazda 787b. Either way I like it and look forward to the outcome! Quote

Thank you :) Yes it might look to narrow now but I will add flexaxels next to the fenders so it will look better (I hope) Next Update Will Be : fully working shifting for gearbox . Quote
Alex Ilea Posted July 6, 2017 Author Posted July 6, 2017 Hello all ! Yes long time since last update but I really want to finish this WIP topic :) As you can see the bodywork is almost done(btw : notice patriotic colours :)) ) : Here is the cockpit with HoG included : I want the rear section to be lifted in 1 piece : Here is the underneight : I was surprized to see that by now i used 12 frames (this number of frames is usualley seen in 1:8 scale cars) . I am also very proud about the rigidity of the car (it can be picked up by : the roof ,sides ,roll-cage and rear part ). There are of course more things to do . Waiting for your opinions/improovments comments . Quote
Didumos69 Posted July 6, 2017 Posted July 6, 2017 (edited) It's turning into a really cool car with some very nice features. Nice steering wheel btw ! I also recognize the gearbox layout. Why did you hold on to the center diff? It does not have 4wd, or does it? If not, I would think you could replace the center diff with a single axle holding a 24t gear and a 16t gear. Final question: Can you tell/show how the shift lever works? Edited July 6, 2017 by Didumos69 Quote
Alex Ilea Posted July 6, 2017 Author Posted July 6, 2017 (edited) First off all thanks :) The center diff has 2 axles that exit into his sides, 1 is conected to the rear diff and 1 is blocked ( with a 2pin /1 axle 90 degrees conector , don't know the name of parts lol) ,and this makes the whole gearbox and engine faster. And I will post pictures for shifter in a few mins :) So, It is a basic set-up : You just push that red lever. This car has a lot of your awesome mechanisms in it :) Edited July 6, 2017 by IA creations Quote

The engine will rotate twice as fast if you don't block one of the output axles, but use a single axle with normal gears (24t and 16t) instead. Quote
Alex Ilea Posted July 6, 2017 Author Posted July 6, 2017 (edited) Ok , will do so (just need to tear down half the car ) Edited July 6, 2017 by IA creations Quote

The knob wheels behave as gears in a planetary system, with - in your case - the upper knob wheel representing a pinion gear, the lower knob wheel representing the sun gear, the lever serving as planetary carrier and the stoppers serving as a stationary ring gear. Alex Ilea Posted July 6, 2017 Author Posted July 6, 2017 So i have a planetary shifer system :D Quote
Lenivkin_Eugene Posted July 6, 2017 Posted July 6, 2017 Excellent model, the instruction after the assembly will be available? Quote

Alex Ilea Posted July 24, 2017 Author Posted July 24, 2017 (edited) So guys, This day marks 2 big things: First of all I finished a wip topic Second , I finished the car after 2 whole months : Engine : Butter-fly doors : I am very proud of the final result :) Intructions will be free and are in the making as you are reading this (no joke) And here is a really important question for you : RED OR BLUE ? Functions list: -full independent suspention -HoG with working steering wheel -butterfly doors -removeble engine cover -4 speed sequential gearbox -rear working spoiler Edited July 26, 2017 by IA creations Quote
Paknaloid Posted July 24, 2017 Posted July 24, 2017 Congrats on a lovely moc, with fantastic flowing lines! personally I think the blue looks better with the yellow; however is it cheaper to build in red? Quote
Aleh Posted July 24, 2017 Posted July 24, 2017 (edited) Like the final result very much! My opinion to make one side blue and the second red in the BI.. Edited July 24, 2017 by Aleh Quote
