Governor Mister Phes Posted June 2, 2005 Governor Posted June 2, 2005 Hobbes pointed out this set in another thread. All I have to say at the moment is: FREAKIN SCARY!!! Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted June 2, 2005 Author Governor Posted June 2, 2005 I thought they couldn't possibly get any worse. However, if this is an indication then I would become very terribly mistaken.... Quote
Jipay Posted June 2, 2005 Posted June 2, 2005 Indeed, but the ship itself is looking like this in the movie. a use of the new pirates molds for minifig scale could be a good indication of an incomming pirate theme ;) Quote
languages Posted June 2, 2005 Posted June 2, 2005 The set isnt very good. The top layer of the ship cant be removed and the ship itself is extremely blocky.... Quote

The colours are horrible as well. After seeing Dino, now this, I'm getting the impression LEGO is getting uglier and uglier. Quote
Hobbes Posted June 2, 2005 Posted June 2, 2005 People said 2005 was a good or even great LEGO year. I never agreed (although it's better than the recent past). TLC was going in the right direction with the new city sets (except for the dump truck), for example, but not convincingly enough to me. Simply because of sets like this ship... If this is an indication for a new pirate theme then I'd rather pay more for old pirate sets on eBay... very disappointing... :( Quote
sam89 Posted June 2, 2005 Posted June 2, 2005 Same with me. This is what the link is supposed to show though: http://toyfair05.asmzine.com/companies/leg...es/P1010274.jpg EDIT: It says it has exceeded its bandwidth. Quote

Wolf04 Posted June 3, 2005 Posted June 3, 2005 Ah, can finally see it. I don't know why you people are worrying about. Have any of you even seen the ship in the movie? Maybe this is how it's supposed to look like. Quote
Mr. Lego-builder Posted June 3, 2005 Posted June 3, 2005 Is the movie even out yet? According to my records, the Harry Potter movie in which this ship appears in is going to be out this fall. Quote
Hobbes Posted June 3, 2005 Posted June 3, 2005 I don't know why you people are worrying about. Have any of you even seen the ship in the movie? Maybe this is how it's supposed to look like. I am not "worrying" about the ship itself or its looks. It's not a pirate set and it probably resembles the ship in the movie. What I don't like is that it's supposed to be a LEGO model but looks like Playmobil. And that's what I meant about 2005 not being that great a year afterall: the new sets do look good - but that's about it. They're still "playing sets", not "building sets"... Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted June 3, 2005 Author Governor Posted June 3, 2005 Regardless of what its suppose to look like, its the choice of bricks that's most off putting for me. But the colours don't help either. Besides, just because it was in the movie doesn't mean LEGO had to make a set out of it. Especially if the result is an ugly set. *devil* Quote

Besides, just because it was in the movie doesn't mean LEGO had to make a set out of it. Especially if the result is an ugly set. *devil* Sure, the hull is bad, but the rest is good. http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/lar/Publ...er/dscn4040.jpg We're getting gold window lattine x3, not to mention gold chrome 2x2 discs. I, personally, could use more dark red and light blue - great accent colors for ANYTHING - and it's got some fantastic shields. Besides, I read somewhere that there is something beneath the deck, as can be observed through the hold opening. So other than the hull, I think it's rather good. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted June 3, 2005 Author Governor Posted June 3, 2005 Actually I think the brown part of the hull could be savalaged, but the grey decking just makes it look too bulky and <insert that tiresome argument>. I think for it to work you'd need to need to build up from the brown hull the old fashioned way using smaller pieces. I foresee a fine galleon could grow from a wide hull like that... Quote
The Middleman Posted June 3, 2005 Posted June 3, 2005 The decking actually appears to be many pieces - many USEFUL pieces. I love those plates with 3/4 tiles and 1/4 plate. They're great. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted June 4, 2005 Author Governor Posted June 4, 2005 I'm not talking about that part of the deck, I'm referring to the oversized pieces around the perimetre of the deck where it meets the hull. Quote
Assassin Posted June 4, 2005 Posted June 4, 2005 The window grill looks more like the new copper colour than gold. Other than that, there were other pictures around earlier showing the interior of the rear cabin. I haven't seen anything else about a "below decks" option. One thing that seems to be missing is some gold accents on the end of the tan reverse arch pieces (this is the only set so far to have tan reverse arches). I suppose it's another of those wait and see sets. Now comes a little plea, can anyone buying any new sets attempt to post a parts list on Peeron for those (like me) wondering what is in a set. Quote

Assassin Posted June 5, 2005 Posted June 5, 2005 Mister_Phes, the pictures were available in one of the reports from one of the toy fairs in the past couple of months, they might have been linked from an earlier post here somewhere or from Lugnet (I don't visit many other sites) Now for something off topic, with the amount of posts you've made, do you ever get any time to actually build with LEGO :-) ? ? ? Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted June 5, 2005 Author Governor Posted June 5, 2005 Its not a matter of time, it a matter of space. I don't have anywhere to put a MOC at the moment. However, I have build an Imperial Flagship, Renegade Raft, Cannon Cove to name a few smaller sets. As for the number of posts, I type rather quickly and since I'm still stuck with dial up, I post messages here while I wait for other webpages to load. In the past month I've. Written a 2500 word essay Prepared a 20 minute presentation, which includes. - 18 slide, slow side with annotations - 1500 word essay Completed a 60 page graphic design assignment, then present it Managed to maintain a social life on weekends See the latest Star Wars movie 3 times As well as all the other normal every day stuff like attend numerous appointments, birthday celebrations, house work, paid work, exercising, etc. So posting here doesn't really take up a lot of my time. Scanning images to post however... Quote
Assassin Posted June 6, 2005 Posted June 6, 2005 So I guess you don't get much time to sleep then :-0 Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted June 6, 2005 Author Governor Posted June 6, 2005 I have various sleeping disorders, therefore I only sleep when I'm too tired to go on. Otherwise there's no point trying because I won't just fall asleep. Anyways, overall all, what do you think of the Durstrang Ship? Quote
Assassin Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 At first glance it looks interesting - mainly for parts though. I will wait until there is a parts list on Peeron before deciding if it's worth getting, I am mainly a castle person, so my purchases are all based on what I can use for castle building and detailing.
