Henchmen4Hire Posted May 26, 2017 Posted May 26, 2017 (edited) After doing some reading on building techniques, I dug up this old model and gave it an update. Mostly I reworked the front half so it's a lot more stable and the ship's silhouette flows better. Also smoothed out the cockpit and made sure the ship was entirely buildable. Features •Retractable landing gear •Adjustable steering wheel •Pivoting cannons (nose area) •Ramp lowers in back and big white panel comes off to expose cargo space. I imagine criminals get hogtied and tossed in there too. The only thing I don't like is how the cannons on the wings look, any suggestions? Trekkie99 Posted May 26, 2017 Posted May 26, 2017 (edited) Wow, very cool! Nice, clean model. IMO, if Lego were to ever bring back SP I would want the color scheme to remain the same as SP3. Edited May 26, 2017 by LegoMonorailFan Quote
Digger of Bricks Posted May 26, 2017 Posted May 26, 2017 This looks great! The subtle tailfin merging into the canopy is my favorite part, almost like a 1940's Batmobile. The Blade Runner like hovercar designs of SP3's spacecraft are what made the theme! 21 minutes ago, LegoMonorailFan said: Wow, very cool! Nice, clean model. IMO, if Lego were to ever bring back SP I would want the color scheme to remain the same as SP3. For distinction, I would like a new color scheme for a hypothetical SP4, perhaps harkening back to SP1, with Dark Azure, Dark Bluish Grey, and Trans Red. I definitely though would like them to return to SP3's hovercar like spacecraft for the theme. Quote
Umbra-Manis Posted May 26, 2017 Posted May 26, 2017 Nice work! SPIII had some pretty sweet ship designs and this fits right in! Quote
TheLazyChicken Posted May 26, 2017 Posted May 26, 2017 Great job! I like the sleekness of th ship, glad to see people still appreciate Space Police III! It was one of my favorite themes! Quote
Henchmen4Hire Posted May 26, 2017 Author Posted May 26, 2017 (edited) Thanksssss Yeah, SP3 is my favorite theme, I'm hoping for a contest where we can redesign the sets or create new ones. Speaking of Batman... I'm also reworking that grey ship in my signature, the front is really flimsy and begging for a fix. Edited May 27, 2017 by Henchmen4Hire Quote

You should retool it in the LBM Batvehicle style (Black, Red, Dark Bluish Grey, and Trans-yellow with Trans-purple thrusters) or Classic Space style. Quote
Henchmen4Hire Posted May 27, 2017 Author Posted May 27, 2017 (edited) I reworked the wing cannons, now they're more stable and look better I'm also updating the Stud.io file, I forgot the add the technic pins that connect the black part of the engines to the white lol SP3I Reworked Wing Cannons by Henchmen4Hire, on Flickr Edited May 27, 2017 by Henchmen4Hire Quote
Orange Leader Posted May 27, 2017 Posted May 27, 2017 Great sleek design, goes along very well with the windscreen. Quote
Henchmen4Hire Posted May 27, 2017 Author Posted May 27, 2017 (edited) Yeah, the windscreen is what dictated the size and shape of the ship. I wanted a smaller body (since I don't have much space to display things), but it looks stumpy if I shorten the nose. Edited May 27, 2017 by Henchmen4Hire Quote
Commander Turtle Posted May 31, 2017 Posted May 31, 2017 That's nice, I see the Space Police influence for sure. It's got a very sleek look to it. Quote
-zenn Posted May 31, 2017 Posted May 31, 2017 (edited) Love that Bat-variant, reminds me of Batman Beyond. I also think there was nothing wrong with the old cannons, they're nice and textured, just looks better to me. Edited May 31, 2017 by -zenn Quote

The only real benefit of the new cannons is that they're securely attached, the old ones would fall apart if I accidentally bumped them. •And making a minifig scale Batman Beyond batmobile is my ultimate goal, I've been looking up a bunch of building techniques so I can get it just right. I think making a UCS version would be easier because I could shape the curves better, but super expensive of course lol. I'll get to work on it after I finish up my Superbird remodel Preview: Edited May 31, 2017 by Henchmen4Hire Quote
