Posted May 26, 20177 yr Hello Technic Wizards I am building a mechanism using worm gears https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?id=1311#T=C. However, the ones I have in my collection have no friction against the cross axle I slide them onto; they just freely slide up and down. Is this the normal behavior? I need them to be fixed to the axle so they actually push things! Thanks in advance if anyone can throw any light. /ben
May 26, 20177 yr This is normal for the 2M worm gears. The new 1M worm gear however has friction with the shaft and the now rare 3M wormgear can't slide at all as an axle won't go all the way through. 2M through hole without friction. 3M blind holes either end. 1M through hole with friction.
May 26, 20177 yr If you actually want to push things then wouldn't it be better to use linear actuators? https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=92693c01#T=C

May 27, 20177 yr This is new part. Comes in some 2017. sets. Cheapest 42060: Roadwork Crew Anyway, to push something, also friction of that won't be enough. You will still need some stoppers at each end. Also they are needed anyway to hold axle, on which You will mount that gear.
