Lucarex Posted October 13, 2022 Posted October 13, 2022 Still waiting in vain for the cancelled orca (*sigh*) In the meantime, I've just picked up all 3 squirrels (black, brown, grey) and finally at long last, a goat. Yes 'that' goat. Quote

Lion King Posted October 16, 2022 Posted October 16, 2022 Let’s sigh together for a cancelled orca! It will be loud enough for Lego to hear. Quote
karrit Posted October 16, 2022 Posted October 16, 2022 They want $16.71 for the Friends Giraffe & $5.06 for the Zebra Foal. Think I'll be waiting for a sale on the Wildlife rescue set. Quote

Yes not much point in buying them loose then Very interesting to see the June animals are popping up, the hen is so expensive so I just ordered a flock from BL instead. I wonder what the other farm animals will cost then, should show up any day now Quote
jonwil Posted October 16, 2022 Posted October 16, 2022 I was thinking of buying the giraffe but not at that price. Quote
Lion King Posted October 16, 2022 Posted October 16, 2022 I will hold off Freinds giraffe until there is a Giraffe in a City set. Not a fan of Friends eyes. Quote
User5346 Posted October 17, 2022 Posted October 17, 2022 Who else thinks LEGO really needs to update the frog and fish piece?! Every time I get a frog especially, I can’t help but think how outdated it is. They could definitely improve them both substantially. Quote

There are a few small animals that are not updated yet, not sure they will do it either since a lot of the designers are very fond of especially the frog apparently. They are also very cheap to include in sets, updated moulds at least with printing are not.. What I think is more likely at least in the short term is that we get a bigger frog and fish with printing that are in a few sets with better budget and the rest will include the cheap old moulds still Quote

The hare has since appeared recolored in brown as a real animal and the rabbit has made plenty of subsequent appearances as proof that the new mold didn’t supersede it. With the existing Harry Potter canon being what it is, it would be very simple to use the same strategy to introduce a new and more biologically accurate Toad while leaving the current amphibian mold to keep the title of Frog - and subsequently keeping all the designers that like using it for non-animal purposes happy while also giving anyone who wants something that actually looks like a modern lego animal what they want too. RichardGoring Posted October 17, 2022 Posted October 17, 2022 The frog is interesting because it's small enough and plain enough that it can work well as other things, in a way that the fish, crab, or parrot can't really. I'd definitely like to see them all updated, but the frog at the bottom of the list. Quote

The design itself is so outdated style wise, but even more importantly you kind of have to do some intensive workarounds to get it to hang upside down - y’know the way bats are infamous for. Add in the very dated lack of eyes and it barely looks like an actual animal anymore compared to modern lego creatures. Quote

I mean, an old spider mold just got updated a few years ago, 2018 or 2019. I feel that bat is looooooooong overdue for an update, along with crab, fish, snake, frog (well, maybe not…), Yes, I would love to see bat sleeping upside down! One with wins folding over its body and one with wings spreading, please. Quote

Roebuck Posted October 19, 2022 Author Posted October 19, 2022 A parrot with the toucan treatment would be a wast improvement yes. I still think the original Pirate parrot is better than the dual molded ones (even if the new mould is better). It works well on the husky, but birds are rarely asymmetrical in plumage so looks unnatural Quote
