Latest news about Lego animal moulds

I'll try to temper my expectations regarding Series 27, but here's hoping there's something surprising in there :)

The past few series have usually done 2 new moulds, and 1 new reprint/colour, so that's what I'm expecting here. Maybe a small-ish wolf mould and a new cat print/colour, plus a mystery mould?

Pure speculation from my side, however would be really surprising if a fig like that did not come with an animal

A "dog" and a cat is not the most existing no, however it could be something else so will have to wait to know for sure

Although the Friends one isn't bad for standard animals. The eye prints, I suppose, but the rest feels kind of fine.

I don’t think your expectations need to be tempered too much – beastmaster and cat lover don’t leave much to interpretation after all (at least not when it comes to the presence of animals as accessories). 
 

I personally suspect the Cat Lover will be a counterpart to the series 19 Dog Park Attendant. That minifig introduced the dachshund, recolored the French bulldog, and included a shovel and introduced the poop piece on top of that (to say nothing of the amazing detail on the minifigure itself). So there’s precedent for us to potentially see a new sitting cat, a recolor/reprint of the existing cat mold, plus a bonus accessory like a cat toy alongside the Cat Lover. 
 

As for the beastmaster, being part of the Wolfpack faction makes a wolf the obvious choice (although I don’t see why it would have to be small - remember, the foal was introduced in a cmf so they’ve got the space to make it bigger than the shepherd dog like it would be in real life). And the use of the more ambiguous term ‘beast’ could mean that this character is the master of more than one species (something that’s just occurred to me: guess what new Lego animal hasn’t appeared in a realistic color yet and has a symbiotic relationship with wolves in real life?)

I guess there’s an outside chance that the pirate figure in CMF 27 comes with a recoloured monkey or an updated parrot 🤷🏽‍♂️ just to give @lifeinplasticsome hope for exotic beasties!

The Cat Lover could go in a few  directions - crazy clothing and headgear, stuffed cat toy, existing or new cats. I’d like to see either a new long haired cat or a sitting cat mould. Ideally both 😝 I definitely think that they need to up their game cat-wise, especially now that Friends has the superb fat grumpy cat mould. 

I so so so so want a proper Lego wolf (though I just know I’ll be raging when they give it some stupid evil-looking eye), but you make a good point re the raven mould. 
There is always a limit to how many new moulds appear in CMFs so it’s sometimes useful to look at the lineup and think which could feasibly NOT need a new mould, that then gives an idea of where there might be ‘mould space’. Also worth remembering that the pattern of <random figure> being a vehicle for new animals is pretty well-established at this stage, so we can realistically expect it.

I'd really like a new parrot with printed eyes. Or a more modern crab, which is a bit more of a stretch.

I wouldn't grumble with a new seagull - similar to the previous one but without outstretched wings.

I'd love a canal/river boat/barge in a City playset with a family of swans - also want a proper cricket player (Hot Fuzz reminded me of Shaun Of The Dead)!

Off topic, but it’s weird that we have never had a canal boat/ house boat set, have we? Also a great place to get a proper duck in a set - just to get us back on theme

There was a Friends canal houseboat but no ducks - there were some ducks in the Friends Botanical Garden though and a 'System' version is due to be released - I think it's an ideas set though so not sure they create new moulds (although the otter came with The A-Frame Cabin).

Another long shot but there are lots of paintings by famous artists featuring Cupid with a swan...

I would have liked something more Adventurers/Explorers related like the ornithologist with toucan - something South American preferably like a sloth/capybara/tapir. The fact we got a red panda makes me dream!

The otter was not a new mold - it had previously appeared in a Harry Potter set (in glitter trans light blue as a patronus). There have been exceptions to the ‘no new molds in Ideas’ rule, but they’ve pretty much exclusively involved the execution of licensed characters (see Zero in the latest Nightmare Before Christmas set).

Yes I agree we need blue crabs and other colors of course but blue would nice to see.  Also some tan,  has there been a white crab?

Yeah the old seagull mold is ‘meh’ as it’s made out of rubber and it won’t sit ‘firmly’… so i won’t complain about wither seagull or parrot. As a brand new mold!

I do wonder why a red panda was chosen for last year. It’s not the most recognisable animal and didn’t really fit in with the jungle environment (living in a coniferous forest). Makes me hopeful for some surprises next year too. I just love the Playmobil Wiltopia wombat sets!

It was just to get you overhyped.

Maybe, instead of thinking what scraps of animals we will get from CMF 27, we should instead flip the list we have on its head, and suggest the animals we could get with each. Y’know, some wishful thunking until our hopes are dashed … and that could maybe look something like this:

There has been a light tan one, IIRC only available in one set or through Bricks & Pieces. Never a white one though - which is frankly an affront to deep sea vent communities!

I don’t think the red panda was introduced because of the jungle subtheme. Remember, it also featured heavily in this summer’s Dreamzzz wave as a new companion for Izzy. The Dreamzzz team seems pretty proactive about creating whatever new molds they fancy (say hello to the raven which was released in the same sets) so it would not shock me at all if they were the ones who created the mold and City just threw it in their lowest price point set because they knew they could sell a lot to people who just wanted the panda. (As someone who’s loved red pandas for years I can’t help but approve)

We also need Lego to make a blue and a white lobster. I was going to suggest a brown and tan but those would require a different shape.
