Dont kill me but for the castle set I rather have them spending the budget on the minifigures (full printings, new colors, even new pieces)

Be prepared - villagers will start a mob and hunt you down

And…I may join you.

Not all of them. I refuse to believe that the inarticulated, ‘simple’ animals like pig, calf, lamb, chickens are cost prohibitive

I believe it was said in relation to the Blacksmith Shop that even the "simple" animals have a higher cost to produce because they are complex shapes with complex molds.

Not to mention that modern animals all have printing

Although animals may cost a bit more to produce with a complex mould and printing, the other factor to consider is perceived value, and animals are a draw to a set that will encourage people to buy it. So they're a useful sales tool and help people to justify the price of sets.

"On on the topic of animals, why weren’t there any other animals such as chickens? Were any farm-type animals that didn’t make the cut?

Wes: This kind of along the horse scenario – we have to work within these limitations and have to choose between things like expensive animals. Whether it’s a couple chickens or even one chicken or one horse.

Sometimes the smaller stuff takes more than you would think to produce.

So in this case, we felt like the horse was really the the strongest addition to the set because it draws the carriage, plus we could make it in a new colour and it’s a larger animal overall.

So, yeah, I would have loved to have some chickens, but I’d have to make some cuts somewhere else."

Yes, I am happy they made the choice to make the horse in a new colour for that set, but it is crazy that one horse cost the same in the budget as one or two chickens. Makes no sense to me at all and I assume the husky for some reason is cheaper than the chicken since they managed to include that (or maybe the same and they preferred the dog)? *huh* The new hen hose in City only have two even if the prelim had 3 (+1 used for the weather vane), so that would explain the bare minimum included in the set, when Playmobil do it for the same budget:

Exactly, how many AFOLs will end up buying at least one of the 4+ City farm just because of the animals included

And yet they've had chickens at the BAM station. I've got about 15 chickens just from that. And at BAM it's essentially 67c each. They'll still easily make a profit on them at that price.

Precisely this. Also cats, dogs, pigs, penguins, snakes, lobsters, parrots, owls.

They have also had so many complex and sizeable animals in CMFs and magazine foil packs by now … (dolphins, flamingo, toucan, skunk, lion cub, etc)

Never seen horses though. But I've heard tales of them being in the PAB wall. Would love to see that one day.

The old horse (in white) was in PAB wall for a while many years ago. Heady days.

Yeah I remember that.  I wish they would do that with the small bird that is now in white, red, and blue also chickens would be nice.  Even fish would be good to stock up on.  Really any animal, bird or fish in a PaB wall would be great.

Yeah, when you think about it, birds, fish, crabs, rats, even the newer squirrels and hermit crabs, would be great in PaB walls because they’re the sort of things people would want to grab a whole fistful of to add a little extra to any display. If they put (non snowy) owls out I’d grab a whole cupful and have my new Harry Potter sets just as covered as the old ones pronto.

Only animal I have seen in recent years was the black tarantula spider

Dang, $70 for this one? That's a kick in the shorts. Can't deny the greatness of all of these animals though.

No doubt
When I came out of the dark age Lego was maybe half the price in the states now on the other hand some sets are really expensive there :sceptic:
For once we are getting a decent price in Norway, so if I am lucky and get it for 40% off on a sale later it might be a better deal than B&P/BL. The B&P price is rather similar in different countries right, so if the animals show up there they should be a lot cheaper than $70 right?

Lol, i feel the same way. The barn set is just…ehhhh. But like you say, I can’t ignore the farm animals! I’m not sure when they will show up on B&P website.

If one is happy with just one each of the new animals it should be less than the $70 for the set.  I've already amassed a decent amount of the regular size pigs & sheep so don't really need more of those.  I expect the price for the cow to be over $5.  Baby animals tend to go for around $2-3.  Clueless if the fleece part for the sheep will be reasonable or not.  I do hope all the animals become available through .com at some point.

Just found out that all the farm set are for sale only at one toy-store chain here  Hope that is only a limited time like last years wildlife sets or it is going to be very hard to get a decent discount for them

Looks like the frog comes in a new colour "Vibrant Yellow" in 11022 space mission (the set also have the 2 other new frog colours this year).

Tbh I would like a small scale tiger or lion that would be cool and you can build a zoo

Not sure how “small” you define… Last year, we have lion cubs. But no tiger cubs yet. A standard big cat mold is not that bad.

There is also a new cub in the set 60353 'Wild Animal Rescue Missions', which I assume is a baby black panther. I really hope to build a Zoo before my nephew gets too old to enjoy it and so I really wish we soon get a non-Friends giraffe and a hippo where the upper body and head can be detached to look like it is half submerged (both adult and baby versions). I'm not too worried about getting big cats, as I always feel seeing them in a zoo does not allow them the space they need (perhaps this is unfair on other animals too, but I feel better about those kept in a suitable environment that are well looked after for conservation efforts). Currently, I would include the following for a zoo:

  • Penguins - from the CMF series and the recent Lunar New Year skating rink
  • Elephants - from recent City Safari sets
  • Monkeys - from recent City Safari sets
  • Flamingos - from the CMF series, although would prefer the legs to be re-coloured to look less like garden ornaments
  • Camels (from Prince of Persia - these need to be re-introduced in current sets)
  • Ostriches (from Prince of Persia - these need to be re-introduced in current sets)
  • Crocodiles (I wish the new baby matched the dark green colour)
  • Turtles - I prefer the CMF coloured version to the recent City lifeguard set
  • Toucans - from the CMF series

Most wanted - giraffes, hippos, sea lions, sloths, llamas and koalas (it is ridiculous that we have a giraffe and llama costume minifigs but no actual versions of these animals, yet new moulds are made for useless features such as the helmet with pigtails, like in the new Stuntz sets)!

I personally would not complain at all if the next CMF series was just different zookeepers/wildlife explorers, each with a new animal mould (any of: sea lion, koala, sloth, baby hippo, meerkat, orang-utan, wombat, red panda, lemur, capybara, vulture, stork, baboon, tapir, hyena, iguana, gazelle...)

Chimps, owls, stag, skunk, snakes, chameleons, bears too.

the new black cub is coloured to be a black panther, but curiously on some of the accompanying artwork it’s shown as a very dark-coloured puma (which don’t really exist).

I do love the PoP camels and ostriches. Glad I picked those up. Really keen to see a flamingo recolour too, in coral or light pink.
