Posted June 21, 20177 yr I haven't touched Technic in a very long time... The 8440 Formula Flash was my last technic set, back in 1996. I see there are a lot of very big and interesting motorized technic sets that use power functions. Which of these sets is good to start with? I'm wanting something that does a really good job of utilizing what powerfunctions has to offer.
June 21, 20177 yr I think, it is still possible to buy 42030 in stores (at least in Latvia). There are 3 motors, including sero, 2IR recievers and remotes. From new ones, good option is 42065, with two motors and also IR remote. It is also not so expensive. Edited June 21, 20177 yr by Jurss
June 21, 20177 yr 42065 is good, it has 2 M-motors, battery box, receiver, and a remote. But if you are looking for something on the cheap side, 8293 is only Power Functions, with battery box, M-motor, switch, and lights.
June 21, 20177 yr If you want to start with your own motorizing ideas - go for 8293, it is a great strater pack If you would like a huge RC set that you could play with - 42030 is the way If you would like a small motorized set - imho 8052 is the best if you can buy one on bricklink, there are some great alternative models you could build out there Remember that one always can buy some separate PF parts on bricklink
June 21, 20177 yr Based on what's currently available I would recommend 42065 and then 42055 purely for the power functions used. Edited June 21, 20177 yr by adam_
June 21, 20177 yr Currently available: I would go for 42065 Not for sale but available on Bricklink: 9398
June 21, 20177 yr I have to say as the first big set I built when I came back to LEGO after many years, I really enjoyed 42043, maybe not as much power functionality as other sets but still a great set to build.
