Brickadier General Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 I was never really a big fan of the line, although (as others have said) I did like the minifigs. But most of the mechs were never really appealing to me. And if Agents is supposed to be the successor...then I think I would just assume keep Exo-Force. lol Quote
Deinonychus Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 And if Agents is supposed to be the successor...then I think I would just assume keep Exo-Force. lol I guess in a loose sort of way you could say that, mostly in that it fills a slot for an action-based, boy targeted line. And when you think about it, Between Exo-Force, Mars Mission, and Star Wars, did LEGO really need 3 space-based action themes? Heck, you could even toss Bionicle in there for an overall sci-fi thing. Yeah, the more I think about it, the better I am with it. And reading this thread, I can't understand the whole "Bah, I hated Exo-Force, I'm glad it's gone." mindset. If you don't like a LEGO theme there's nobody forcing you to buy it. And if you're not buying and building it how can you foment such bile against it? I don't particularly care for, or buy Belville sets, but I do think it'd be a shame if sales were so bad LEGO had to abandon the line. :-/ Quote
Shadows Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 Let's see how many points I can make that already have been. Didn't love the line, didn't hate it, just bought them for parts and minifigs. Every EF set I ever bought was 50% off or better. Yep, that pretty much spells disaster for the line, so I'm not surprised. I'm a little disappointed since it was nice to pick up some of them cheap, but there are so many great sets out there, I don't really need the additional expense anyway. I won't recall the series fondly, nor will I eternally despise it (Time Cruisers, anyone? :-X). Agents will be the next line of this type. I'll buy them cheap for parts and minifigs, never attempt to collect them all, and I won't be broken up when they fail. Perhaps it's time for LEGO to launch a new/old winner and this will eventually lead there. Pirates On! *y* Quote
hollisbrick Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 :'-( i have mixed fellings about exo-force leaving, considering that damn bionicle has been awhile for aaaaages |-/ (not good) but i guess the agents line is replacing it so that dosnt look tooo bad..and i was just actually getting into the theme... :'-( Quote
Holodoc Posted February 8, 2008 Author Posted February 8, 2008 I love to read this thread just for the "Argh - I hate to see it go" on the one hand and the "I couldn Quote
DJ Force Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 Curses! CURSES! Part of my decission to sell my huge boxed Space collection was that I wanted to focus my collection on Exo Force. I Quote
BrotherDog Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 EF was a really interesting theme with some cool and original mecha designs and fancy characters. But this was also one of the main limitations to that line, and perhaps something TLC failed a little. Seriously, how many mechas with always the same characters in only new dresses could someone stand before it Quote
Lord Of Pies Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 I am not too surprised really, and I hope TLC will replace Exo force with an even better theme. I bought the whole of the January 07 line and I will miss them, but in popularity for me it is behind SW, pirates, castle and city, so I never buy any unless they are on sale. ;-) Quote
snefroe Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 well let's face it, it was never intended to be a longstanding line. Lego introduced it a few years back because it was easy money. sets were very cheap compared to sw and at that time, the theme was new and exciting. after all, young boys love robots. they also surfed a bit on the manga-popularity in the West. these hypes never last long... but at the same time, it never really found a place of its own in the lego catalog. Most people went for city sets when that theme turned up with some really great sets, especially the good old fashioned police station suddenly became highly popular again, sw fans never cared about exoforce... and the space fans... well... they were far more interested in building detailed space ships than the highly playable EF. especially this year it's become unclear what EF is supposed to be.... you can't just continue to produce robots that only differ slightly from the year before. The stuff from this year looks more like EF halfbreeds or mocs made by EF fans... As jp said, the mf's were interesting, the first year was nice, but that's it... byebye EF Quote
xwingyoda Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 True !! and add to that the weakness of the storyline !! Its the same characters over and over in different suits fighting the same enemmy over and over |-/ Reminds me the downfall of these ugly jellybeans knights !! *yoda* Quote
Batbrick Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 True !! and add to that the weakness of the storyline !! Its the same characters over and over in different suits fighting the same enemmy over and over |-/ Reminds me the downfall of these ugly jellybeans knights !! *yoda* Its actually quite ironic. If they had changed enemies each wave like the castle theme, and even changed main characters, and on top of that set it in different locations and terrain (not just bridges) then we could have had a great line that each year had diverse mechs for different atmospheres and places, with an everchanging storyline. It could've been great. But NO! Instead everything stayed the same, so by the time the best designs came in (08), we had gotten tired of it.... Batbrick Away! >:-) Quote
iamded Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 Well, why would someone buy the 2007 sets when they were designed horribly? Why should they be surprised that 2007 didn't sell well if they were basically piles of crap in a box? This year's sets are great and the whole theme has a lot of potential. 2007... 2007... oh right! 2007... <shudders> The year where the click joints were replaced with Bionicle ones... |-/ Still, I loved the original ones, I grabbed Gate Defence (or whatever it's called, the smaller gate one) as soon as I saw it, the minifigs were fantastic, the robots were absolutely awesome, and the mechs were great too! A brand new idea for Lego, I loved it. I received Grand Titan as a gift soon afterwards (Thanks dragonator!), and picked up Uplink and Sentry later. Got Bridge Walker for my birthday, another Uplink, and then with the next wave I was not impressed. I got Golden Guardian, 'cause he was neat, and Sky Guardian, because of the sword and dark blue bits, and a couple of the Cyclone Defenders and a Claw Crusher (orange *wub*). Then this year, with Castle, I've only picked up Arachnoid Stalker. An absolutely wonderful set. *wub* *wub* The rest... they were alright. So, Exo-force brought some great new stuff, but I'll be excited to see what replaces it (please don't let it be Agents... :-P) ~Peace Quote
ReZourceman Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 NNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!! NNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!! NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! Devastated. Ima have to buy loads of sets for the sticker sheets, so I can make the MOCs look good. :( :( :( Quote
hollisbrick Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 In some waysits good to see it go on a good note! Quote
Shakar Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 I'm sorry for Exo Force fans but, to be honest, I'm not that sad. The only reason I liked EF, afterall, were the anime faces. IMO those were very useful (at least in my fantasy setting) and I wish they made more variations (hey, I used Hitomi's faces in one of my villains- a male one! X-D ). Shakar Quote
hollisbrick Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 EF was just the replacement for Alpha Team, wasn't it? While it was an improvement in my mind, maybe Agents will surprise us as well. hmm does that mean that the Agents line will last for three years, because Alpha team and FF did so i think it'll be a cylce eg in three years time there will be another theme replacing ect Quote
Shadows Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 hmm does that mean that the Agents line will last for three years, because Alpha team and FF did so i think it'll be a cylce eg in three years time there will be another theme replacing ect Probably, but who really knows? If the line was truly successful, I'm sure it could continue beyond that, but I wouldn't be surprised if it goes that way. Well i don't think it's quite that bad, to me both lines are/were rubbish when compaired to other lines like Castle. Exactly. They were filler, like Avatar, but cheaper since they don't require licensing. Quote
LuxorV Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 Even if I'll be sad for this, I think it was about time for the theme to end. Don't get me wrong, I love Exo-Force (and I think it's quite evident from my MOCs :-$ ), but last year stuff was really bad (except for GoldenGuardian and 1 or 2 other sets *y* ). To be honest, I was sure, when I first saw this theme, it was going to last only one year, like many others before. It was good to see those pilots and robots again in 2007, but, looking at the design, it was quite clear it couldn't last much longer :'-( . Now we have this official note about its' end. All I can add on this is I'll get some of this year sets (I was not sure about some of them, but...), and I'll keep using the Exo-Force style for my mech MOCs. On the other hand, I wonder what will take their place, next year 8-| . Let's hope it will be something exciting and well designed like Exo-Force was in its golden days *sweet* . LuxorV Quote
nausicaakro Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 (edited) boy, i bought 5 sets exoforce in 2006... i like the heroes, the manga faces, the mech designe, but for me evil robot are meh... in 2007 I did not buy exoforce set. No new minis (oh, I wish a manga heroine), no addiction, no new faces, no new hair... at last I'm sorry for Exo Force fans but i don't regret TLC decision... goodbye ef! :'-) nausicaakro Edited February 8, 2008 by nausicaakro Quote
DJ Force Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 days... DAYS! Ach, the pain *sing* Very true. What excited me about EF in the first place was that it wa completely new. Not some agents fighting sinister Ogel or Jack Stone or Policemen or Knights or Dinos being captured or attacked or whatsoever, but a genuine theme never to be seen before with LEGO. That hurts. Fresh ideas with lots of potential. Just imagine. Exo Force basically was only a small task force. There could have been a lot more of these forces. Even "ordinary" city sets could have been implemented. Policemen, Firemen, Search and Rescue, Maintenance, Hospital/Health... Just add this touch of Manga and futuristic environment, and voila! No, really! Imagine a Sentai HQ in the modular city style: A basic wall segment set (castles siege tower /w wall segment, back in the old days. I know you remember ;-)) With weapon sleds just as the real 7709 set offers, lots of firepower to defend the walls, little bit of baseplate stuff, small accessories and personel. Buy as many as you want of these, depending how big your HQ shall become. A Mech Bay. Not to be confused with Michael Bay. Could hold up to three big Mechs. Comes with maintenance personel, crane, spare parts, tools, small hovercraft units, Uplink-like maintenance mechs... A hospital. Bigger than the platform that comes in 7709 of course. With airspeeder, small vehicle, 1 injured pilot, 2 citizens and 2 doctors Search and Rescue set. With airspeeder, Recovery vehicle, watchtower, landing platform, office, terminal room and SAR crew Airforce platform. Basically like the platforms in 7709, just bigger again. Space for 2 big Air Mechs, storage room for small air units (like the promo set flyers or the small Mech in Gate Defence) and platform for two or three small speeders/air mechs. With restroom for airforce personel, refueling station and maintenance personel. Main Defence Tower. Like the one in 7709, just bigger again. With detention cell, big computer room/office, soldiers, gun turrets... Need to get back to work now, but I think you get the idea anyway. Quote
